Never thought it would happen to me... a couple of weeks ago a lady came to my yard where I keep my 3 horses to collect a free item I'd offered on FB. She brought two little girls with her... and of course they were ecstatic to stroke ponies. They were also quite shrill LOL! I had to steer them towards the most easy going pony because one of mine isn't all that tolerant, another is poorly so not feeling friendly, but the pony lapped it up. It was a tense time for me to be honest. I put the big intolerant horse in a stable. I had to keep dragging them away from poorly old horse. Made pointed comments about time to go and walked to their car so they had to follow me.
As they were going the kids started talking about coming back... one was asking about coming to ride... Mum was saying maybe they could come brush and give them carrots. I told them they aren't really that sort of horses, not completely easy going. I didn't have insurance to cover children visiting. If you gave the pony carrots you could cause him to get ill (lamminitis). I was very polite.

Yesterday I arrived at the yard, saw a car parked outside. Go to the front and find the three of them on the yard - where my 3 nags are free roaming, screeching, patting, all very excited. Intolerant horse is being a saint thank goodness, poorly horse is looking miserable and trying to hide in a corner. I was nice, but I told Mum that they absolutely can't come and visit alone and actually, I'd rather not have regular visitors. I repeated the bit about insurance and added that the weekends at my yard are my "quiet time" and I like it that way. I have no idea if they'd fed carrots - mum said not.
Today - I'm sat on the yard with a cuppa, surrounded by my herd. I hear a car pull up and who should appear around the stables? The three of them plus dad.
I'm quite assertive so I stood up and as dad was opening the gate I walked towards them with my hand out in a stop gesture and said "No!". Carried on walking through the gate and stood between them and it. Told them that I have a sick horse, I have a horse that isn't particularly kind, I do not have insurance and they are trespassing. Dad was loud - accusing me of spoiling the girls' day - they weren't doing any harm. I just kept repeating "please leave" and they did with many passive aggressive comments between them and little girls wailing.
Tonight on the local FB group - a pointed post about the joys of being in the countryside, how wonderful it is when kind people welcome children who love animals. You get the picture.
I am so not being unreasonable, but I thought it might amuse you all. They'll get a shock, I'm moving to a new yard on Wednesday.

Leave 3 piles of manure and 3 carrots behind op!!
Imagine if one of the little cherubs had been kicked in the face?
Some cfery I agree!!

mbosnz · 05/09/2021 19:35

Cheeky buggers that they are. I'm glad you're all moving, and I hope poorly horse gets better, and stressed out horse feels less stressed out. People and horses don't owe cheeky fuckers a bloody thing, no matter what their age.

Theunamedcat · 05/09/2021 19:35

Your right you do have a herd of CFs!

HermioneWeasley · 05/09/2021 19:35

The brass neck of some people will never cease to amaze me

HighlandCowbag · 05/09/2021 19:36

There is something about owning ponies that brings out the sheer cheeky fuckery of people. Ive recently moved to a new yard, a big diy one and now when I get the requests to come and see the ponies, maybe have a little ride etc I just say 'oh no, new yard has a no visitors policy cos its a working farm as well and insurance doesn't cover it'.

I'd have definitely kicked off the second time tbh.

Glenthebattleostrich · 05/09/2021 19:36

I'd have to reply to the post with a comment about people upsetting your ill horse and how worried you are that they would get hurt. All very passive aggressive and pointing out that horses are bloody massive and can do serious damage.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 05/09/2021 19:36

How rude of them!

WhenwillSleephappen · 05/09/2021 19:37

Jeez I can’t believe people are so entitled. Glad you’re moving yards and that you told them to go.

I make my children ask to touch other peoples animals. DC1 saw a dog and wanted to stroke it. First time I had considered it as I usually say no, so I said we had to ask. Owner was happy to let us as it was super friendly. I wouldn’t dream of letting my children without asking.

FOJN · 05/09/2021 19:37

Dad was loud - accusing me of spoiling the girls' day - they weren't doing any harm.

That entitled shit can fuck off. Who cares if the children were or were not doing any harm, your yard, your horses, access by invitation only not by bullying. WTF is wrong with people?

SameToo · 05/09/2021 19:38

I am always astounded Byrne cf stories on here. What the hell makes these people so entitled!! Well done to you for standing your ground. Vile that she likely brought her husband solely to intimidate you!

Soubriquet · 05/09/2021 19:39

Christ. That isn’t just CF, that’s just rude

I would put this on their fb post.

Horses are not giant fluffy puppies. They have the potential to do real damage

Notaroadrunner · 05/09/2021 19:39

What a wanker. Get some massive signs for new yard stating no trespassing, for all those stupid cf people who think they are somehow entitled to wander around your property. Well done for getting rid of them today.

Lanique · 05/09/2021 19:40

Thank goodness you are the assertive person you clearly are, OP!! This lot sounds as if they'd walk all over you otherwise. Honestly I can't believe the cheek of some people.

PumpkinPatch21 · 05/09/2021 19:41

😂 You remind me so much of a horsey lady I know. Good on you OP, definitely CF family!

TwinkleToeMatilda · 05/09/2021 19:41

Some people are just so odd. If someone tried doing that with my horse I’d go mad! Sounds like you handled it really well though so well done

Hexinthecity · 05/09/2021 19:43

WTF? Entitled fucking assholes, we’ll done for being firm, sounds like you handled it well.

SpiesRUs · 05/09/2021 19:44

Please post a link to the Facebook post so we can all reply on your delay l behalf!

Mrgrinch · 05/09/2021 19:47

What the hell? They are treating your horses like their own personal petting zoo and then they have the cheek to get angry at YOU when you ask them to leave? Fucking cheeky fuckers.

HarrisMcCoo · 05/09/2021 19:48

CF?🤔

takehomepay · 05/09/2021 19:48

YANBU. I wonder if they actually even wanted that free item, or if they saw it as a way to get their foot in the door.

StylishMummy · 05/09/2021 19:49

I agree with PP, people's entitlement to other people's horses astounds me Angry

nimbuscloud · 05/09/2021 19:51

Who owns the yard? It all sounds nuts

WeeMadArthur · 05/09/2021 19:54

Jesus, the cheek of them, you’re not running a petting zoo!

Blueleah · 05/09/2021 19:57

In the first instance I can sort of understand kids wanting to pet ponies when they’re right there. And I can understand the mum pacifying them by saying “Yes, of course dear, maybe we can come back some other time”. We all lie to our kids to keep them from crying. But that should have been the end of it. She should NOT have brought them back! Total CF.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2021 20:00

@HarrisMcCoo

CF?🤔
CF = cheeky fucker

Basically an entitled asshole
