Positive covid and dinner booked?!

AIBU? Parents a nightmare, but that’s another thread.

‘D’ M and Dbro (same household) all tested positive on Sunday, attributable to Bbro going clubbing. ‘D’F negative.

DF birthday next week and he’s texted myself and DP inviting us to dinner out! Wtf? I said straight out no way as they’re a nightmare, and covid.

They’re adamant they’re going as DM/Dbro will have had ‘10 days’ by then since testing positive.. can this be right? How? Surely you must be sure you’re completely well and take a further PCR to confirm to be safe, and ensure safety of others.

AIBU to be horrified or am I misinformed on what the rules are here?

@MyDcAreMarvel

There is another option *@OhRene* the negative DF.
Depends if he's home all day or out at work.

@Windingroad21.

It's fine to be horrified at the new rules, anyone sane is. Also fine to be horrified at your mum unnecessarily using the communal areas & I suspect without wearing a masks or using gloves while she opens doors etc

You are not unreasonable not wanting to go out to dinner with them. Your DF is likely to get it from them and unlikely to test. I would avoid them for an absolute minimum of 20 days from your mums positive test.

Plus the guidance is to stay in isolation if you still have a high temperature or feel unwell. It doesn't sound like your mum or bro would pay any attention to that bit either.

For non Covid reasons I'd choose to make it a lot longer !!

Ignore the sniping posts. You find out what you need to know when you need to know it. There's no need to know what to do in every situation until you need to know it.

Good luck saying you won't be going!

Being able to leave your house after the isolation period without a PCR isn’t a new rule, it has been the case since March 2020.

Plumtree391 · 04/09/2021 16:35

@takehomepay

I kind of agree with *@Plumtree391in* that I’ve not tested for CV19. I think I had the virus in March 2020, isolated for weeks afterwards as it was a bad bout, but no testing was available.

I’ve not had any symptoms at all since then, so don’t feel any need to test unless someone I know tells me they have it and we’ve had contact.

That mirrors my experience.

I've seen my son from time to time and even stayed at his. He had Covid way back at the beginning and has tested himself from time to time; a few weeks ago he gave someone chld a lift to and from a prom do, who telephoned not long after saying they'd tested positive. They were all OK and he is careful but you never know.

This has given me pause for thought. I am supposed to be going to his on Monday and we're looking forward. However tomorrow he is going up North (we are outer London), for work, and will be in company with a few people. I'm now wondering if I ought to go over on Monday. I'm not 'precious' about being ill but obviously don't want to be, especially as I'm on the elderly side.

I was pleased about him going up there because he has been working from home so much.

Nobody on here can advise me about this, I'm just sharing what is in my mind. I will give it more thought and discuss with him. Thanks for 'listening' to my ruminations.

Plumtree391 · 04/09/2021 16:36

I'm cringing about saying 'time to time' twice in first para, d'oh!

Plumtree391 · 04/09/2021 16:37

PPS: Second, not first. Maybe I need a nap :-).

takehomepay · 04/09/2021 16:37

Perhaps he could take a lateral flow test to ease your mind @Plumtree391? Appreciate may not be possible as Monday is almost here.

KnobJockey · 04/09/2021 16:45

@Plumtree391 this disease isn't going away. I think you need to know what you can put in place to make you feel safer- lateral flow tests? Masks? Windows open?- but then get on with it. You cannot keep completely away from it unless you lock yourself in a room alone forever more, so it's time to find ways to get on with life.

He probably would, takehomepay. His plan is to go up tomorrow morning, do the work and drive home afterwards so I suppose he could test on Monday. I won't see him much before 1.30pm. Oh, we'll work it out. Thank you.

Of course they can go out after their 10 day isolation? We’re 18 months into this now and that’s never changed Hmm baffles me how people don’t know that.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/09/2021 17:53

@Thefaceofboe it has changed , it used to be 14 days.

FfrothiCoffi · 04/09/2021 17:54

Wasn’t it 10 days if you actually tested positive yourself but 14 days as a close contact?

Mousecapade · 04/09/2021 18:21

Please don’t retest - you can get stuck in an inactive positive test isolation loop! You aren’t meant to test for 90 days after a positive test.
@Thefaceofboe it has changed , it used to be 14 days.
It wasn't how many days that is being asked though it's whether you have to test to release from isolation- which has never changed!

nunamenuyear · 04/09/2021 19:28

OP has run away (hopefully to look up the rules)

I think so. And either way, it’s been 10 days for a long time now and you’ve never been required to test at the end of your isolation.

No 10 days when symptoms started and a PCR or 10 days when you’ve tested positive
GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 07/09/2021 23:10

They are perfectly able to do that as its within guidelines. Once you have had a positive test for covid you cannot be tested again for a further 90 days as this is how long it can linger in your system for even though you are past the contageous point. So a further test at that point would be pointless as it will still show up positive even though they are no longer contagous. I work in care and have to test a minimum of once a week but after contracting covid I was exempt from testing for 3 months for this reason. It would be worth your DF having another test before hand though if he was negative at the time but there is nothing wrong with what they are doing.
