Or not

OP posts:
NellePorter · 01/09/2021 22:35

No. My sibling is my most important person Smile

Mandate · 01/09/2021 22:41

Totally. I like my sister, but we are not super close. And my brother swings between infuriating and intolerable. Friends are who I would call in an emergency or give a lot too.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 01/09/2021 22:55

Friends, definitely.

My mother was very close with her sisters so doesn't understand why me and my sister aren't close, but we have such different personalities we have never really got along.
Plus she's a very difficult person to communicate with, and lies about stupid little things and is generally a drama queen, always fighting with someone. Can't be dealing with that in my life.

I see her every now and then and love seeing my nephews, but would never ring her for a chat or go to her in an emergency. Don't even see my brother anymore, he's gone NC and I don't really miss him - so definitely closer with my friends, who are awesome.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/09/2021 22:56

Without a shadow of a doubt, friends first.

bookworm14 · 01/09/2021 22:57

Blimey.

I am going to bookmark this thread and link to it every time someone posts that having an only child is terribly selfish and they will be miserable without a sibling!

SwimmingUnderwater · 01/09/2021 22:59

Yes. My siblings are disinterested and unsupportive.

BecauseMyRingBurnsSheila · 01/09/2021 23:10

Yes definitely. I choose like minded people as friends. I am related to people I have little in common with.

namechangetheworld · 01/09/2021 23:27

I have one brother and we only see each other once every few months, but he would come before my friends every single time. He's sometimes a bit a lot grumpy and we have differing opinions on some things, but family is so important to me. I would find it really upsetting if my daughters grew up hating each other like so many others on this thread.

Dasher789 · 01/09/2021 23:31

@Groovee

Definitely. My siblings are not even supportive as family. It's all about them.
I was going to post friends, but you are right. If anything happened to sibling, I would feel differently.
Dasher789 · 01/09/2021 23:32

@MysteriousMonkey

I prefer to spend time with my friends, but the love I have for my sibling is more and always will be.
I meant to quote this... Hmm
Meraas · 02/09/2021 06:00

Reminds me of that Holly Hunter movie, Home for the Holidays:

Claudia: You don't know the first thing about me.
Joanne: Likewise, I'm sure. If I just met you on the street... if you gave me your phone number... I'd throw it away.
Claudia: Well, we don't have to like each other, Jo. We're family.

ActonSquirrel · 02/09/2021 06:03

If my sister and I weren't related I wouldn't be friends with her at all. We have nothing in common.

All she talks about is herself. I don't even think she knows the name of my employer and she doesn't care either. Doesn't ask about me. When we talk it is all me me me and my life

She doesn't really know me either. Friends see me for who I am. My family have fixed ideas about me that just aren't right

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/09/2021 15:56

God yes. Not all that keen in my siblings (brothers).

Peace43 · 02/09/2021 16:01

I love my sister. We don’t have a lot in common except that she is my sister but I would rather spend my evening with her than with almost all of my friends.

Listener2021 · 02/09/2021 16:03

Yes. I love my friends. Siblings live their own (childfree) lives in another world.

AryaStarkWolf · 02/09/2021 16:05

Nope adore my brothers, I'd do anything for them and vice versa

**I still love my friends a lot though

Deadpoet1 · 02/09/2021 22:27

I cut my sister out of my life about 6 years ago so yes, I prefer my friends.
