Or not

PurpleBag · 01/09/2021 17:59

Nope. My siblings are my best friends and they would win over my friends every time.

HungryHippo11 · 01/09/2021 18:03

Absolutely
My brother is fine but I wouldn't say we are friends.

emilylily · 01/09/2021 18:03

I'm much closer to my siblings than my friends so no.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 01/09/2021 18:08

Gosh, yes.

Nothing wrong with my brother but we’ve nothing in common at all.

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 01/09/2021 18:21

If I could only save one, it would take me about 0.0002 seconds to save my best friend over my sibling.

BroccoliFloret · 01/09/2021 18:25

@Knittingupastorm

Yes. If my siblings weren’t my siblings, we wouldn’t be friends. I don’t hate them or anything, we just wouldn’t choose to be friends.
Exactly this.

I am civil to my sibling, we see each other a couple of times a year, we live at opposite ends of the country. But we're very different people.

freelions · 01/09/2021 18:32

@MysteriousMonkey summed it up perfectly for me I prefer to spend time with my friends, but the love I have for my sibling is more and always will be

I don't spend much time with my DB (see him a couple of times a year) and would never choose to holiday with him etc but he is family and I would therefore drop everything to be there for him if it was required.

hangrylady · 01/09/2021 18:43

No. I have some great friends but my brother is my best mate.

Mary46 · 01/09/2021 18:46

2 siblings. Civil. Keep it pleasant. My friends more loyal

HHSchultz · 01/09/2021 18:55

Until a few months ago I would have said I was closest to my BF, after 25 plus years of friendship she has done something with the intention to harm me, I will never speak to her again. It's brought me closer to my sister, who was also a previous BF of this person, although my sister being a lot less daft than me saw through her long before I did!

SlipperTripper · 01/09/2021 18:57

100%

ThinWomansBrain · 01/09/2021 18:58

NC with one - so definitely yes
get on with the other one most of the time, but she can be unbelievably irritating - I don't think I'd make quite as much effort with a friend.

celestebellman · 01/09/2021 19:02

This is a bit depressing - I would say I’m closer to my sibling than any friends, even though we don’t see each other that often as live in different parts of the country. Friends, even really good ones, come and go in my experience, but my sibling knows me better than anyone and we have an entire shared history/ mythology (maybe it helps to have a very happy family background).
I really hope my kids have the same kind of relationship when they are older, though at the moment they bicker a lot!!

LadyJaye · 01/09/2021 19:06

No.

I'm in the astonishingly privileged position that my sibling and cousins are among my very best and closest friends, because we genuinely like each other and have a lot in common.

We also, by and large, like each others' husbands/wives/partners/ILs/other friends. It's brilliant, like creating a huge social circle of convenience.

I appreciate that this isn't common, though.

soughsigh · 01/09/2021 19:12

No, if I had to choose someone (not DH) to get marooned on an island with, it would definitely be my sister. We would never be friends if we weren't siblings but we get on really well and enjoy each other's company.

I don't have that easy, lifelong bond with anyone else.

That's a very good way of putting it.

If I couldn't have OH, then my sister would definitely be my desert island chum. Grin

MadeOfStarStuff · 01/09/2021 19:15

Seen my sister once in the past 10 years and that was due to a family emergency

My best friend is much more like a sister to me than my actual sister.

endlesscraziness · 01/09/2021 19:16

Absolutely. My friends are the family I chose, my actual family I have to tolerate

amusedbush · 01/09/2021 19:17

Yes. My brother and I have nothing in common apart from our parents.

123rd · 01/09/2021 19:17

Good god. Yes! As PP wrote I tolerate my extended family. I choose to spend time with my friends

purplecorkheart · 01/09/2021 19:18

I love my sibling but we rarely see each other. I went through a period last year where I struggle with my mental health. It genuinely would never have occurred to me to reach out to my sibling when I need a open ear. It was always three of my closest friends.

Vicliz24 · 01/09/2021 19:19

Categorically yes I do . I have a difficult relationship with one sibling and none with my other one for years . My friends are my family.

Fabvegetablegrower · 01/09/2021 19:22

Yes I do. I'm very different to my sister.

billyt · 01/09/2021 19:24

Definitely yes.

I'd trample over my piece of shit siblings to meet a friend.

I know I can trust my friends.......

WeeWelshWoman · 01/09/2021 19:29

My sister is my best friend.
