Please include all things such as laundry/households items e.g. kitchen roll, toilet roll etc.

2 adults and 2 children (one primary, one secondary)

£100-£130

Sciurus83 · 31/08/2021 13:47

Probably £100 a week, that includes an organic veg box every week. Any meals out/takeaways would be on top. 2 adults 1 toddler.

Mammma91 · 31/08/2021 13:50

I was £114 this week, for 2 adults and 2 year old.
This included cat food (£14) and cat litter (£7) and the normal, toiletries, loo roll, laundry powder.

SciFiScream · 31/08/2021 13:51

This is our spreadsheet for the first few months of the year. We'll add August soon.

This is everything. All good for 3 adult size consumers, 1 child size consumer and 2 cats. Cleaning, toilet roll. Everything.

£150-£170 for 2 adults, 3 children, 1 dog

SciFiScream · 31/08/2021 13:53

Includes regular deliveries of milk and eggs which is a really expensive way of buying them. Doing it for less plastic (we get glass bottles only)

theliverpoolone · 31/08/2021 13:57

£75-£80 week, 1 adult, 1 teen, 2 cats. That would reduce considerably if I bought less biscuits/crisps Blush

Notashandyta · 31/08/2021 13:57

Budget between £200 and £250 for everything, including a takeaway and treats for days out etc
Probably every 3rd week we spend alot less so it evens out to £200pw

ivfbabymomma1 · 31/08/2021 13:59

£100-£120 for 2 adults, 1 2 year old & 2 dogs

FuckingFabulous · 31/08/2021 13:59

Between £80 and £100

Two adults
Three children.
Three packed lunches daily

gwenneh · 31/08/2021 13:59

@DollyPartBaked

£150 - 2 x adults 2 x small children.

Would love to see a meal plan for £40 a week.

Sainsbury's did one a few years ago. The prices have probably gone up since then but it was very near £40 pw for a family of 4, breakfasts and lunches.

Didn't work quite as well if you have picky eaters, but I do still use their £20 for 5 dinners meal plan fairly often. It was these recipes:

  1. Cheesy jacket potatoes with bacon and pepper ratatouille
  2. Creamy pork & mash
  3. Simple sausage supper
  4. Tomato & broccoli risotto
  5. Turkey chili with rice

The recipe saves money by not using a ton of pre-prepared ingredients -- you're peeling and chopping and mashing your own potatoes, etc. When I have time this works for me, but time is really the thing in short supply in our house!

Proudboomer · 31/08/2021 14:01

This is all meaningless as everyone will have different diets.
Those spending £200pw are not eating the same as those spending £70.
The differences are not only meat and fish v veggies but where they shop, the brands they buy and the quantiles used.
Big difference if you buy andrex 9pack, 3 pack of plenty, fairy washing up liquid, microban and ecover Landry liquid versus own brand or smart price.
I buy my cleaning stuff in Wilko ecover is £9 for 42 washes or you can buy 3 of wilkos own for £5 and that is 84 washes.

Nodancingshoes · 31/08/2021 14:13

About £100. This includes toileteries and washing powder etc... I used to go to Lidl and spend a bit less but recently moved to Tesco for the convenience of self-scan. I would say that we do sometimes have to do a 'top up' shop mid week for milk, fruit and veg though so thats an extra £10

Gliblet · 31/08/2021 14:15

For two adults, a 9 year old, a dog that is ours and a cat that thinks it is, I budget £100 per week plus £50 (so usually £450 a month, sometimes £550). We shop predominantly at Aldi with some top ups from Sainsburys, Pets at Home or the corner shop. That includes groceries, cleaning and household products, basic toiletries (shampoo, shower get type stuff), the odd bottle of wine or pack of beer.

AdmiralCain · 31/08/2021 14:18

Me for myself £20, I eat very healthily and never go hungry. If I spent £40 christ I couldn't imagine that, loads of jars of lidl Sundreid tomatoes and capers in oil and chuck in a few bags of Waitrose Frozen Kedgeree!

Inextremis · 31/08/2021 14:21

€100 a week for 2 adults, 2 dogs, and a Sunday lunch for 5 people. Additionally, DH will get fresh milk every other day, and maybe a few small things I can't get in the Tesco click 'n collect - like decent-sized garlic cloves (Tesco's are tiny). The €100 includes some store-cupboard things as well, because - having once had to self-isolate for 10 days with no notice - I try to make sure we have enough food to survive for a couple of weeks if we can't get the usual shopping. I'm also adding one or two things towards Christmas this year, like a 200ml bottle of whiskey this week, and a half bottle of brandy.

OhLookAtThat · 31/08/2021 14:23

£35-£40 a week for two plus a cat (cats food is £5 a week). Vegan diet, cook 95% of the time from scratch. That’s breakfast and dinner every day as well as lunches in the week for one of us. I shop at Aldi for veg and tinned stuff and then top us at Tesco for things I can’t find.

rjacksmiss · 31/08/2021 14:25

£50/£60 a week. Myself and DC

Bagelsandbrie · 31/08/2021 14:26

2 adults and one Ds aged 9. Ds has autism and will only eat specific things. Dh is fussy and will only eat proper chunks / cuts of meat. No mince, stuff in pies unless made from scratch etc etc. It drives me crazy. And he won’t eat much veg either so veggie options are limited! As a result we massively overspend as I cook 3 separate things most nights. I spend £150 ish in Aldi on a main shop and then easily another £50-60 on top ups at Tesco.

Cupcakeschocolate · 31/08/2021 14:28

180 to 200 a week. For 2 adults and 4 children. That's including everything

icedcoffees · 31/08/2021 14:30

Two adults, three cats and a dog, and it costs us around £90 a week for everything, including cat litter, pet food, toiletries, loo roll, cleaning products etc.

Some weeks I spend more and other weeks it's less, but I'd say £90 was the average each week across a monthly period. We also get maybe one chippy tea each month at around £10 a go.

We could cut it down if necessary but we have no need to right now.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/08/2021 14:30

2 adults a 4yr old and a baby between 80-100: biggest expense is formula

PattyPan · 31/08/2021 14:35

2 adults, about £40 for everything but we apparently seem to go through much less cleaning supplies, loo roll and toiletries than everyone else on MN so I don’t buy them more than once or twice a year 🤷‍♀️

UniBallEye · 31/08/2021 14:42

I'd say around €250 per week. 2 adults + one mid-teen + cat
That includes cleaning / pet food / alcohol etc.
I truly don't know how people manage to feed so many on such tiny amounts, I admire them but I fail miserably.

We eat fairly standard stuff (no quail or lobster!) but we cook a lot and most meals have lots of components. For example if we have pasta we will always have fresh basil, fresh parmesan, marinaded olives, garlic bread, salad as well as the ingredients for the dish itself.

Similarly we have chilli we will have tortillas / tacos, cheese, sour cream, avocadoes for guacamole, coriander, spring onions, japalenos, salsa

Etc - so the 'main' meal might be simple but the other bits add up. We live 30mins from the nearest shop and have a teen so we always have plenty of snacks in stock for them and their friends.

We're very lucky to be able to shop the way we do and I'm grateful for it every time I load up a trolley
