And it's not after a relative, she just likes it. Is this it for us over 40s? Are there going to be loads of little Lynns and Sharons running round soon?

What other names are we about to see!?

OP posts:
ballroompink · 29/08/2021 21:37

Same! The same goes for Bertha I think. And boy's names like Neville and Keith.

One of the 'granny' names I haven't yet spotted in the resurgence of Ada, Ethel, Florence, etc. is Myrtle!

80s baby here so can't see the return of Sarah, Laura, Gemma, Michelle, Rebecca and Christopher, Matthew, Lee, David and Stuart any time soon!

Siameasy · 29/08/2021 21:58

Started primary in 81 and names like Debbie, Julie, Nicola, Dawn were popular.
I had Samantha, Jane and Laura on my shortlist for DD.
I love it when I hear a 70s/80s name brought back. Originality in a sea of Islas/Ellas
I know a 7 year old Michelle
Also someone called their baby Louise. Of all the nice girl names and you chose Louise!

entropynow · 29/08/2021 23:41

We had three Heathers in my class at school (70s). Not met any baby Heathers, ever I think.

A small boy in a pushchair in a shop yesterday was apparently called 'Forest' Hmm

YourFinestPantaloons · 29/08/2021 23:42

Joanne is a lovely name! Nice to see the classics being brought back

RussianSpy101 · 29/08/2021 23:44

@entropynow aw my best friend is called Heather! She’s 27.

QueenHofScotland · 29/08/2021 23:46

I know a baby Linda.

I feel she should be 40, not 4 months!

QueenHofScotland · 29/08/2021 23:50

@Namechanger0800

I'm 70s as well - Joanne, Louise, Jennifer, Melanie, Amanda, Sarah, Caroline, Helen, Kirsty, Michelle, Naomi, Natasha, Elizabeth, Catherine, Kerry, Sian, Anna, Emma, Rachel, Ruth, Stacey, Rebecca, Lynsey etc
Quite a few “classic” names in here - not just those popular in the 70’s
Missdread · 29/08/2021 23:53

Lindsays/Lyndseys were everywhere when I was at school in the late 80s, 90s

Missdread · 29/08/2021 23:56

And Helens and Michaels. Whenever a teacher asked for Lynsey, Helen or Michael, the whole class put up their hands! 😂

HotChipss · 30/08/2021 00:05

I was at school with a couple of Melissas in the 90s - that seemed quite different at the time, if we had a supply teacher or whatever they’d always say ‘oh that’s unusual!’

Have never met a younger one

Clydesider · 30/08/2021 00:19

I was an early 70s baby and went to school with Debbie, Joanne, Jackie, Sarah, Paula, Alison, Amanda, Julie/Julia, Susan, Helen, Lynne, Michelle, Sharon, Tracey, Lisa, Claire and Ann. Some of the boys were Brian, Alan, Philip, Mark, David, Jason, Peter and Steven.
I know these will probably seem dated nowadays but I think they're far preferable to some of the modern monstrosities you hear being shouted to kids in the street. Most of the girl's names are pretty and feminine. I'd love to see some of them stage a comeback.

Are there any baby Queenies out there?

We just rescued a dog named Queenie! (Guess the breed....) Puppy mill mother, 3 years old and 3 huge litters, massive emergency c-section scars, not seen much 'outdoors' at all. We changed her name to Gwennie because she didn't respond to Queenie anyway.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 30/08/2021 05:46

I haven't met a Darren in years although we have a Wayne in Y2 where I was recently teaching.
Mason seemed very popular some years ago but then fell out of favour.
The most popular girl's name was Ellie-Mae.

Mammyofonlyone · 30/08/2021 05:53

@Laska2Meryls

I also went to school with an Elspeth and a Veronica , but I cant see those coming back..
I know one Elspeth of my generation (40's) amd there are two in my daughter's primary school!
ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 30/08/2021 06:18

@rubydoobydoo

Darren, Jason and Gary for boys

Debbie, Donna, Lisa and Samantha for girls!

Everyone was Sarah, Claire or Helen with Louise, Jane or Marie as their middle name when I was at school (including me!)

I came on to say everyone at school had Louise as a middle name! I'm 39.

desperate4spring · 30/08/2021 07:22

My 10yo's favourite names that she's determined to name her own DC are Adrian and Pamela 😁
