And it's not after a relative, she just likes it. Is this it for us over 40s? Are there going to be loads of little Lynns and Sharons running round soon?

What other names are we about to see!?

OP posts:
ICantFindTheBuffet · 29/08/2021 18:57

Jennifer, Alison Phillipa, Sue, Deborah, Annabelle too..? (Points if you get the reference!)

I know a child Vanessa.

NameEight · 29/08/2021 19:26

@ICantFindTheBuffet I wrote this song for you.

Yesitsbess · 29/08/2021 19:28

@Echobelly

Well, it'll be our parents' generation's names:

Susanne/Suzanne
Jacquiline
Peter
Richard

Not sure if Barry or Derek will make a return though!

BARRY! Another one of those names that I can only imagine an adult having!
Ericaceae · 29/08/2021 19:34

My DD's Heather, and we've met another two a few years younger.
(Insert 'Heathers' reference in here - completely slipped my mind at the time Confused )

Mousetown · 29/08/2021 19:35

@MsMoody

We have a 20 year old at work called Karen. Was a shock at first based on her age but it’s grown on me!
I know a Karen in her 20s and another in her 30s. Both the opposite of the horrible meme stereotype.
Formaldeheidi · 29/08/2021 19:36

One of my children may or may not be called Lynne or a variation of it…

It suits her and has sentimental value. If we’ve set a trend so be it.

SummerWhisper · 29/08/2021 19:39

Irene (Reenie)
Dorothy (although Dolly / Dotty / Dottie are contemporary again)
Maureen (Mo)
Doreen (Dot)

Mark
Graham
Paul
Will Nigel make a comeback?

Formaldeheidi · 29/08/2021 19:41

I think I read an article that said that in the next 30 to 40 years the name Gary will be extinct.

Daisychainsandglitter · 29/08/2021 19:44

My DD has a name mentioned on this thread. V popular when I started school in the late 80s. I love it as it's so versatile as there are so many ways her name can be shortened and varied.
After being so popular you almost never hear of it now and I don't know anyone else her age with her name.

boogiewithasuitcase · 29/08/2021 19:47

I have been reading about the Plantagenet queens and princesses - lots of Eleanors, Isabellas, Joan/Joannas, Phillippas, and later Katherines and Margarets.

Caspianberg · 29/08/2021 19:52

@CaveMum - Bernard we know is pronounced more like ‘bearn-ard’. Like bear with n at beginning.

Yesitsbess · 29/08/2021 20:10

Are there any baby Queenies out there?

x2boys · 29/08/2021 20:35

No more Gary, s? 😢 We need to save the Gary, s!
Yesitsbess · 29/08/2021 20:39

Here's a Gary! In fairness, she probably should have been names Toothless...

@MyFloorIsLava

We're getting guinea pigs soon, I'm pushing to have one named Carol (after one of my favourite film characters)
we had a piggy name Linda a few years ago!
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/08/2021 20:41

In my class at school there were always several Joanne/ Joannas, and several Clare/ Claires.

And the boys would all be Dan, Matt and Andy. With a possible Dave.

Maybe those names will all come back?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/08/2021 20:43

Elsbeth/ Elspeth are very current names aren’t they? Up there with your Elizas and Betsys, none of whom are registered as Elizabeth.

UnitedRoad · 29/08/2021 20:44

When my children were young and playing made up games, the name they and their friends would FIGHT over was Geraldine. They all pronounced it Gerald Eeen, and thought it was the most glamorous name they’d heard of. They all planned to call their daughters it. They’re 20 and 22 now and some of their friends are beginning to settle down. Are we going to see a plague of baby Gerald Eeens in the next few years? In my head I see her with a long brown curly perm, twilight teaser lipstick and a patterned blouse from Dorothy Perkins. I can’t wait until she’s replaced by a million cute little babies in Frugi.

x2boys · 29/08/2021 20:44

I do think the more traditional names come in and out of fashion, but some names are very of their time, im notsure there will be a resurgence of baby Darren, s and Lee, s for example but they were quite popular in the 70,s.

I know a cat called Barry 😂
Shoemethemoney · 29/08/2021 20:52

In my high school (I was born 85) my year was mostly Katies, Rebeccas, Sarahs, Emmas, Vickys and Jennys, with a liberal sprinkling of Gemmas and Jodies.

I know of a few younger Katies and Emmas but haven’t met a little Jodie or Victoria before

Shoemethemoney · 29/08/2021 20:53

Oh and the boys were mostly made up of Sam Chris, Liam, Steven, Matthew, and James. The odd David and John.

ICantFindTheBuffet · 29/08/2021 20:55

I was born late 80s and went to school with a Maureen and a Cornelia.

Grin It's been stuck in my head since.

Maureen is one of those names that I don’t believe will ever cross over to being a cute/trendy/vintage name in the way that Ivy, Ida, Martha and Elsie (for example) have.

I just cannot imagine a baby or toddler Maureen
