My friend said I'm "stingy" am I ? Aibu ?

Me and my friend are going to Manchester tomorrow.
We are going for 2 nights for shopping /food and drinks.
We love a cocktail and said we will have to have a couple of cocktails.

She messages me a hour ago telling me she's booked some fancy place with a skyline view ??
And she's paid for a cocktail tree
It's 8 pornstar martinis and it's £120
So it's £60 each

I told her that was expensive and she really should have asked first
She said "oh stop being stingy it will be fab"

So I've paid £60 for 4 pornstar martinis
£15 each !!
Please someone tell me they agree that £60 for 4 drinks is ridiculous?
I was thinking revolution /slug and lettuce 2 for £10 or 2for £12
Not £60 for 4

I'm annoyed
Aibu ?

Well its expensive but I also would travel to manchester to go in slug &lettuce or revs, and I wouldn't really count those as special places I'd go for cocktails on a weekend away.

2 for £10 is extremely cheap for cocktails.

Can you offer a compromise, find somewhere a little special/different but not where you need to spend quite so much?

No way would I pay that for drinks.
I also wouldn't want to drink something called a "pornstar martini".

In terms of pleasure and value for money I could think of many ways that £60 would bring me more fun.

I'm more shocked that you thought £120 was sufficient for two nights drinking and 2 meals in Manchester tbh. Were you thinking wetherspoons and maccy d's?

£15 for a cocktail. Ooh how lovely. I deserve a little treat. Worth the splurge. But. That. X 4. No no no!!! Also. I'd now be so pissed off being forced to pay for something that I probably wouldn't enjoy a single sip of them anyway!!! Hard to enjoy sipping when you're seething!!

A good porn star martini is worth its weight in gold.

I was lucky to frequent a bar in my 20's that made them impeccably (and I've never had better anywhere else!). They were £12 back then.

But you should always, always ask before you book something that is going to cost someone else money.

I paid £18 for a cocktail last week, but it was in the Savoy and a special time with my mum.

Theres no way I could drink 4 Porn Stars, one is enough, its so sweet!

I wouldn’t have paid. I can’t think of anyone I know well enough to go away with who would have decided it was fine to spend £60 of my money on drinks I didn’t choose.

Some people have really unreliable friends.

She should have checked first.

But try to enjoy it - it's presumably the experience of the venue you're paying for, rather than the alcohol.

I guess it's the equivalent of picking a gourmet restaurant over an all-you-can-eat. Or you could fart in your bath at home, but it's not the same as a jacuzzi at a posh spa.

But yes, she should have asked you before booking.

YANBU - it is irrelevant whether the cost is good value or not. What is not okay is her deciding how you spend your money without checking with you first.

I bet it will be lovely, but i would certainly tell her that you wish she had asked as you hadnt budgeted for this, so will have to do a cheap picnic lunch on one of the other meals

Well its a bit expensive but it's a one off. She just wanted to do something special/fancy. Surely it's not all about how much you can drink for how little? Stick a couple of dragon soups in your back for after if you really want to get drunk for cheap 🤣 down them on the way to the next bar, or half a bottle of vodka in your bag and take a few swigs every now and then.

Last time I went to cloud 23 the entire view was building work….. hope it’s finished now!
I would be annoyed that she had selected my drink for me, I like a pornstar martini but only one because it’s too sweet.

A single pornstar martini on the Cloud23 menu on its website is only £13 so they definitely aren't going to be charging you more if you're ordering 8 of them... are you sure it's definitely £120?

I'd be cross that I had to drink the same thing all night and that I hadn't chosen it....also that she booked without discussing budget.
