To have given up on bras?

I've gained some weight...size 16/18 now. That plus lockdown means I seem not to be able to cope with wearing a bra anymore! I tend to wear a vest top under clothes and I have some of those weird nipple cover things for particularly close fitting clothes. Im aware it doesn't give me the best shape, but by lunchtime I'm ready to rip off just about any bra I try! Anyone else?? It's not a feminist thing, but when I look at my husband just casually chucking on a T-shirt in the morning, bras do seem like a kind of tyranny!Grin

I'm the same size but I'm not comfortable without a bra, you just need bras that fit!

Queenoftheashes · 27/08/2021 11:52

I agree with you OP. Bras fucking suck.

saveforthat · 27/08/2021 11:53

I haven't worn a bra since the start of lockdown. I always used to rip them off as I got in the door. Now I just don't bother at all and I'm quite big. Bras are so uncomfortable even well fitting ones.

flapjackfairy · 27/08/2021 11:56

Get some of those stretchy ones they are v comfy.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 27/08/2021 11:59

Same as pp, I find no bra more uncomfortable. I bought two of these which are comfortable but give some support?

I stopped wearing one when I got a frozen shoulder and they all seemed to transfer the considerable weight onto the shoulders. Most of this was last year when I was only going out for essentials and hardly ever saw anyone I knew anyway. Now I have to remind myself to bra up if anyone's coming round or I'm going out without a coat or jacket. Sometimes I forget. It looks as if I've lost loads of weight when it's all correctly reined in, but mostly I have no fucks to give. They do suck.

Hankunamatata · 27/08/2021 12:04

Oh my I'm in exactly same situation. I cant tolerate bras anymore. However love wearing pilates top with in built bra from decathalon they have removable pads. Ended up buying some soft bra tops things from supermarket as I'm a bit top heavy for nothing and cant stand underboob sweating

If you are happy bra free, then fine. But if you did ever want to try bras again, I'd take a look at whether you are wearing the correct size. 80% of the boob weight should be carried by the band, not the straps. If you are used to wearing a looser than ideal band, it may feel tight at first, but not uncomfortable
DahliaMacNamara · 27/08/2021 15:16

My current occasional bra has become so loose it would be condemned to burn on a fire by boob-or-busters. It was definitely the right size when I bought it, though. No M&S adding on for cup sizes here.

Starsong82 · 27/08/2021 15:58

Underwired bras are tools of the devil! I haven't been able to wear one since I was pregnant with my son 3 years ago. Have a look at molke.co.uk - far more comfy than a standard bra and still give you shape and support if that's what you're after.

QueenBee52 · 27/08/2021 16:30

I wear a moulded cup style sport bra, I love them .. they are supportive and comfortable... I have them in gorgeous colours and I cannot see myself reverting back to my underwired style bras either.. I'm so much happier in this style.. Flowers

I have softer lighter support ones for ... home days Grin

Turkishangora · 27/08/2021 16:34

They are a tyranny. I no longer wear them, yoga crop tops for work or non underwired bralet from m and s.

Or nothing. And I don't give a shit if someone sees my nipple's. Why are women's nipple's so different to mens? Free the nipple I say. I've noticed a lot of the under 25 generation no longer bother with bras. My dd who's 15 doesn't either apart from a soft one for school.

SpicyJalfrezi · 27/08/2021 16:36

Both totally reasonable and not.

I gained a lot of weight over the last few years and I gave up on bras for a while. Have now lost the weight again and I feel so much better for being able to wear a bra.

But that’s me and I wouldn’t assume to push those feelings onto you.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 27/08/2021 16:37

I’ve started to wear m&s bralets as I need something but bras, particularly underwired ones are horrendously uncomfortable. I blame lockdown! I would toterate them before but since not wearing one for months I can’t bear wearing one now.

Jangle33 · 27/08/2021 16:38

Oh I love wearing one couldn’t think of anything worse than giving up on my appearance not wearing one, unless I was a size 6 and skinny enough not to need one. Sounds like you need to get properly fitted!

virginfannyornaments · 27/08/2021 16:38

I hate not wearing a bra, the only time I don't wear one is for sex or baths! If I had small breasts I reckon I'd love being without one though.

Tal45 · 27/08/2021 16:39

I don't wear a bra unless I'm going out for the evening. I live in baggy tshirts and fleeces anyway.

Tal45 · 27/08/2021 16:40

....and an a cup so not needed.

Holidaytan · 27/08/2021 16:43

I’m a D cup (roughly) and slim. I haven’t worn a bra for a few years now, other than for exercise. Much more comfortable without.

And the sky doesn’t fall in if my nipples make a shape under my clothes and people see. I honestly couldn’t care less.

WhoIsPepeSilva · 27/08/2021 16:49

Swinging free through lockdown here too! Feel comfier without but another with larger cup size so just don't feel confident in public.

Thinking of trying non underwired bras to see if they are any better.

KatherineJaneway · 27/08/2021 16:51

I'm the same size but wouldn't be without a decent bra

Bluntness100 · 27/08/2021 16:52

It’s becayse your bras don’t fit. A well fitting bra is comfy. So many people wear the wrong size or gain weight snd try to squeeze into old too small ones.

I gained some weight in lock down, my bras became uncomfortable so I stopped wearing them, I’ve now lost the weight and my bras are comfy again,

I recall someone on here posting your bra didn’t fit right unless it left a red welt round your body. I mean seriously. Some folks are clueless.

HoboSexualOnslow · 27/08/2021 16:58

Primark do wireless DD+ ones and seem pretty comfy. I hate wearing them unless I'm running. Love bralettes

Merryoldgoat · 27/08/2021 16:59

Bras don’t hurt if they fit and the vast majority of the support should be on the band not shoulders. A deep mark in the shoulder is a sign the band isn’t doing its job.

I bet you’re wearing some mad back size (compared with what it should be).

I have a very small back in comparison with the rest of my body but my actual breast tissue is vast - at a size 18 (if only) I’m a 34G. Im very fat now and am a 38J. People always think I’d be a 42 but it’s way too big.

Bluntness100 · 27/08/2021 17:01

Dunno why some posters going on about their nipples like they are some rebel without a cause. 😂 Generally people wear bras for support, shape and comfort. The larger you are thr more uncomfortable no support can be.

I look a lot better clothed wirh a bra on, as they give me shape and support.

Howver a bra that’s too small for you is devilishly uncomfortable. Just like jeans too small for you are. Or pants, or any other item of clothing. If it’s too small and digging in it’s going to be uncomfortable. It’s not just bras.
