To have given up on bras?

I've gained some weight...size 16/18 now. That plus lockdown means I seem not to be able to cope with wearing a bra anymore! I tend to wear a vest top under clothes and I have some of those weird nipple cover things for particularly close fitting clothes. Im aware it doesn't give me the best shape, but by lunchtime I'm ready to rip off just about any bra I try! Anyone else?? It's not a feminist thing, but when I look at my husband just casually chucking on a T-shirt in the morning, bras do seem like a kind of tyranny!Grin

I'm a 18-20 but a 34 h bra. I lurve these from Sainsburys. I bought for ease of access after a one sided mastectomy, but I am NEVER going back to a wired bra every day. I even sleep in these to keep my remaining nork under control. I plan to keep using them once my next surgery and recovery has been completed. I will promote them to everyone - only time I wear anything else is for exercise 😁

RampantIvy · 28/08/2021 13:33

Why are women's nipple's so different to mens?

It's a bit naive to not understand that men's nippers aren't sexualised the way women's are.

Bluntness100 · 28/08/2021 13:59

I’m very surprised anyone doesn’t know the difference in perception between men and women’s nipples and needs it explained to them.

alsonotmyname · 28/08/2021 20:23

I'm of the no bra brigade too - use vest tops with hidden support in the winter, in the summer a stretchy strapless band one if the outfit needs something, they're very outdated and no one in teen dd's circle wears them.

Sorry what’s outdated? Bras or stretchy band ones?
Treaclepie19 · 28/08/2021 21:01

I dont wear them at home. If I go out for wear bralettes or crop top style ones.
I wanted to get a nice underwired padded bra but obviously haven't been able to get measured in lockdown and now can't be bothered.

Siameasy · 28/08/2021 21:42

Yanbu I hate the fuckers and don’t wear them indoors but I can’t get away from feeling self conscious about nipples showing so I will wear a cropped top with cups in when out out

QueenBee52 · 28/08/2021 22:14

@CovidCorvid

from the description I think the post means Bandeau bras ... 🌸

mafted · 28/08/2021 22:47

I hate not wearing a bra, my boobs flopping around the place, nipples rubbing on fabric is unbearable and the under boob sweat makes me feel grubby.
My bras are pretty comfortable though, not perfect but not uncomfortable.

tiredanddangerous · 28/08/2021 23:20

I loathe and detest bras but I'm a 38g and there's no way I could go without. I wear bralette type things at home but need a proper bra if I'm leaving the house.

RampantIvy · 28/08/2021 23:32

Just seen the auto correct on my previous post Blush

beautifullymad · 28/08/2021 23:45

Autograph collection by Rosie for Marks and Spencer's.

The most comfortable bra I think I've ever worn. I can even sleep in them as I forget I'm wearing them.

I'm a 16-18 and get the ones with the wider band as it helps hold the bra comfortably in place. They are silk, padded and look really nice.

Coogee · 29/08/2021 05:31

Oh I love wearing one couldn’t think of anything worse than giving up on my appearance not wearing one

My appearance can be enhanced by not wearing one. It all depends on what else I am wearing. Tight, fitted dresses or tops provide enough restraint without the need for a bra. There are no lumps and bumps showing from the bra either. If the straps are going to show, I don’t wear one, or choose a different top.

VanishingAct · 29/08/2021 05:44

I genuinely love bras. They make my big-titted life SO much more comfortable. Have felt mildly irked at the lockdown narrative that we're all much happier letting our tits go free range. Nope, not me. Bras liberate me, making it easier for me to run, jump, dance etc. Please don't assume we all hate bras.

How do you know what under wear your daughters friends wear? Confused

bras are 'very outdated' says someone's mum.

okay then.

Coogee · 29/08/2021 05:52

Have felt mildly irked at the lockdown narrative that we're all much happier letting our tits go free range.

It varies from day to day with me. Sometimes I feel I need the support, sometimes I don’t. Lockdown and WFH certainly gave me greater freedom.

VanishingAct · 29/08/2021 06:11

I pop a bra on and I do not think of my breasts for the rest of the day. They're off doing their own thing. If I'm braless however I'm constantly aware of the weight of the bloody things.

Mummytomylittlegirl · 29/08/2021 06:49

I agree they are horrific. I can’t believe some of the things I used to wear and put up with. I have been measured but traditional/ underwired bras are still torture.

I wear these conturve.com/products/comfort-wirefree-shaping-bra

Boobs still look good and are actually more uplifted if anything, plus you can wear them under anything and don’t have the awkward bra strap situation. I also wear the little lace chafing shorts if I am wearing a dress. I feel so much more comfortable in myself and less self conscious of flashing my knickers etc.

I genuinely can’t believe I used to wear proper bras with a thong. I’m only 30 but those days are well and truly over.

Coogee · 29/08/2021 06:57

I must be looking at the wrong thing because I can’t see why not. The over the shoulder straps are very wide.

I guess it depends on what clothes you wear, I mostly wear casual stuff (work from home) and so it’s just like having a padded crop top underneath.
speakout · 29/08/2021 07:04

I love bras- I have large breasts and they have a mind of their own. They take a different rhythm when I walk or go upstairs and feel uncomfortable wihout a bra. I exercise a lot and the gym would be very painful without a bra.
I wear a soft slip on bra, never get dents in my shoulders.

Wonmoretime · 29/08/2021 08:26

I could never understand how some women would talk about being glad to get home and take off their bra, until I reached mid 50s and 38dd and found underwired bras getting uncomfortable , so I have switched to M&S 'total support '. Not at all sexy, have full cups, wide straps and look very old fashioned but are well fitting and very comfortable.

HollyGrail · 29/08/2021 09:02

@Mummytomylittlegirl the conturve comfort bras you recommended only go up to a DD - Could there be a reason for that??

Now I'm older my midriff flesh is flabby and sits in rolls rather than firmly and now underwired cut in to my ribs.
I would also swear my breast flesh is heavier, I'd love not to wear a bra but dongling breasts, as I move, isn't comfortable and the weight means any bra cuts more into the shoulders.

I will try some comfort bras but I have to say any I've tried in the past have had me in fits when I look in the mirror, they are so st-re-t--ched.

HollyGrail · 29/08/2021 09:09

Gillian continued, "I can't wear a bra. I can't. I'm sorry, there's no... I don't care if my breasts reach my belly button. I'm not wearing a bra anymore. It's just too f*ing uncomfortable."
