To have given up on bras?

I've gained some weight...size 16/18 now. That plus lockdown means I seem not to be able to cope with wearing a bra anymore! I tend to wear a vest top under clothes and I have some of those weird nipple cover things for particularly close fitting clothes. Im aware it doesn't give me the best shape, but by lunchtime I'm ready to rip off just about any bra I try! Anyone else?? It's not a feminist thing, but when I look at my husband just casually chucking on a T-shirt in the morning, bras do seem like a kind of tyranny!Grin

I wear M & S underwired bras and have never found them uncomfortable. I am not big, 36C, but would have no shape without a bra.

Happyhappyday · 28/08/2021 03:43

I love wearing a bra, only time I didn’t like it was when I was very pregnant and I had some very bizarre top of bump soreness. I have always shelled out for really quality ones though (expect to spend £60+ each) and come to realize they really need replacing pretty often, at least one round of all new a year. I’m a 30/32 DD so am looking for more support, very jealous of A/B/C folks.

Helloumi · 28/08/2021 03:46

I felt the same, lockdown has also made me a 16/18 from a 12/14. I used abrathatfits.org and found my size. I bought a bra at F&F at Tesco and it's perfect. I'm so happy, from being at home and letting them swing, these bra's at the right size I am comfy all day.

Holothane · 28/08/2021 04:01

I can’t wear them now trouble getting them off and sports bras no chance, stretchy and comfortable while on but getting and off no way.

TwoBlondes · 28/08/2021 04:20

32GG or 34G here, M and S have really upped their bra game recently. I ordered a huge amount of different ones and they almost all fitted. They're Bravissimo quality but much cheaper. Even managed to get a few non underwired/bralet types. I was just about to give up too!

StarlightLady · 28/08/2021 04:54

I agree that there seems to be a wrong size issue with many. I’m 36F, I don’t find underwired bras uncomfortable. It’s important to have the right cup size and the adjustable fastenings on the band allow for changes which happen as part of your cycle.

Having said that, it should be personal choice. I have some friends who never wear one.

Although I wear a bra most of the time but it comes off in the hot weather. As for nipples showing, we’ve all got them.

With long summer dresses, it’s often no knickers on warm days too.

Not in the colder months though.

fallfallfall · 28/08/2021 05:39

i had a breast lift and reduction, no bra necessary and it's been fabulous.

SweetPetrichor · 28/08/2021 09:27

I only wear a bra if I have to go out and even then, I just wear the soft light support ones unless I feel I need to be smarter. But then, I always used to rip them off as soon as I got home! I’m a 30h and it’s a nightmare finding ones that are a good fit for big boobs and a small rib cage…I’d rather let them free.

Cryalot2 · 28/08/2021 10:17

If only I could go braless I would. But at 34jj not a chance. Dd bought me a non wired one which I never thought I could wear. Now I only wear them . Ok I have just 2 styles but bravissimo are brilliant.

PearlclutchersInc · 28/08/2021 10:21

I'm in the "you need to get bras that fit properly" camp. I'm the same size (34GG) and have no problems with wearing bras for 12 hour days.

Going out without a bra is in the same category of going out with no knickers Blush

MrsBobDylan · 28/08/2021 11:25

My Mum has taken to wearing no bra in her 70s and although it pales into insignificance in terms of things she does which upset me, I really notice it.

Ironically Mum grew up above the lingerie shop her Mum owned, and worked in it from 15 until she married my Dad. To have abandoned bras at the very age she needs them most seems absurd to me.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 28/08/2021 11:31

I’m 32AA and only wear crop tops now. I’m so much happier not pretending I have boobs 🤣 and, finally, like my shape now I’m in my early 40s

Tataru · 28/08/2021 11:35

I hate wired bras and won't wear them, but H&M do vest tops with in built support that is quite firm. I wore them when breastfeeding DD and have just carried on wearing! Also I like Oddballs non-wired bras. Again I find them quite supportive and I have quite large boobs. The very soft M&S bralettes aren't as supportive I've found.

Rubyupbeat · 28/08/2021 11:42

I stopped wearing underwire bras centuries ago and just buy Mark's non underwired definitely more comfortable.
I also did wear the stretchy ones, but I got a dodgy shoulder and they were impossible to then put on, but they were the most comfortable.

phishy · 28/08/2021 11:43

YANBU, I never wear a bra at home and usually wear those soft bralets out and about for protection. Even non-wired bras feel constrictive. Why should I be uncomfortable so some man can judge whether my tits are uptilted!

IcedIvy · 28/08/2021 11:50

I've put on a bit of weight too, and quite often go braless at home now. I sometimes do it outside the winter as well if I can hide it all under a big coat.
I normally wear under wired moulded bras but I'm tempted to try the slightly supportive crop top type as a happy medium.

GoodnightGrandma · 28/08/2021 11:51

I agree. I tend to wear crop tops/sports bras on days off.

MattDamon · 28/08/2021 12:11

I mostly wear vests with built in bra/shelf support.

Shakerbaby · 28/08/2021 12:15

Sounds like you have put on excess weight so just need a new bra size. Go down to M&S to get fitted.

NotMyCat · 28/08/2021 12:17

I wear elomi Matilda bras mostly and find them v comfy - I'm a 34K and can happily sleep in them if I wanted to! Trial and error with sizing and brands
For around the house I wear a crop top style from reign swim

Welshiefluff · 28/08/2021 12:36

I still wear them because I do not want my tatty boom booms by my feet in the next ten years.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 28/08/2021 12:42

I ain't worn the fuckers for over 30 years.

BigGooseyLucy · 28/08/2021 12:50

Bras are dead to me ! Grin

thelostwoman · 28/08/2021 13:03

I just can't find a bra that fits properly, but without a bra I get a rash within a few hours.

I'm a 28H but with shallow breast tissue and all the bras I've tried start too low and create a crease at the bottom. But if I go for a lower size cup it digs in at the top and gives me double boobs.

I've tried every style and shape, the only bra that kind of fits is a Freya wired sports bra and it's still too low down.

I could rant all day about bras never fitting.

UseOfWeapons · 28/08/2021 13:14

Bras are the revenge of Beelzabub!
Gave up on the horrid things years ago, wear soft bra tops at work, but not if I’m at home. Never had a comfy bra that didn’t make me feel stiff in the shoulders. This is despite being measured every time I wen to buy new bras.
Enough!
