To have missed the menstrual meeting

where it was decided that sanitary towels will now have a definite front and back which will be indicated by hieroglyphics.

What the fuck does a star mean? Two stylised arrows pointing towards the star?

Don’t come at me with “duh! Just use a mooncup! Just use washable towels!” That’s not an option for some and the least we can expect is to make disposable sanitary items user friendly.

‘Scented pads! who the heck invented scented pads, they are my absolutely bug bear. Even when they don’t say scented they are still scented.

So now I have to stand on the feminine isle trying to discreetly smell they packets to make sure they don’t smell. Otherwise it’s like hive city down there‘

Yes! I agree, they shouldn’t force women to have to buy scented, it should be labelled more clearly so you know without having to sniff the packaging! The same with loo paper…

@FoxgloveSummers

Ah yes I also don't know what the patterns and hieroglyphics mean on sanitary stuff. Thank god I'm not the only one.

The worst thing about the scented ones for me is the incredibly weird sensation of smelling your sanitary towel just about constantly as you go about your day. Oh good, I do like to sniff the contents of my pants on the regular. I agree that only a man could have thought this. Do the designers think that we can (almost retching writing this) smell our menstrual blood if they don't fucking febreze it for us? I have never had that problem!!!! has anyone???

Yes, when I've had rivers of blood as previous posters have mentioned and regularly had to use a whole sheep and a mattress. This perimenopause lark is not much fun either. Almost constant low level bleeding. I used to like bodyform when they were actually shaped to fit, they used to be high in the middle and then taper down at front and back. This was 80's/90's bodyform with the great vocal on the advert. I'd still rather the blood smell than the fake awfulness of whatever they stick in the plasticky pads. Also there are loads of sites that have patterns for homemade pads. I bought 2 reusable pads that have insertable liners so you can choose how thick a pad you want. They are the comfiest things ever. Soak them in cold water with added salt if you want to draw the blood out quicker. Mine do have a plasticky liner sewn in on the bottom layer which stops them leaking everywhere.

@Gbtch

Answer is simple. Instead of starts or patterns they should put an “F” for Front ( or “Fanny”) and a “B” for Back ( or Bum)
Doesn't matter as they make them back to front anyway and the wings are in the wrong place unless you use them the opposite way.

This discussion has been very enlightening. I’m past menstruation and old enough to need a occasional pad for incontinence. I have used Always and have been wondering why I have continual mild thrush!

ZenNudist · 28/08/2021 13:58

Just do whatever works for you.

MatildaJane · 29/08/2021 11:05

Yes chaosmaker I agree, you can smell the cheap, cloying perfume all the time, it’s so unnecessary. What’s wrong with the smell of blood, periods are a normal process and it’s not like people can smell when you’re menstruating unless they had their nose right up to your crotch 😂. But they’d be able to smell the cheap air freshener perfume! It can’t be good to have all those chemicals close to your skin.

Birdcloud · 29/08/2021 11:28

Shall we protest? Boycott smelly pads!

isthismylifenow · 29/08/2021 11:38

Just out of interest I opened one of the Always we get. Now I'm even more confused because there is a flower / star thing on both sides in the same place. So I assume they can be used either way. But then the blue centre bit isn't equally in the middle. So still none the wiser which is the right way.

Squiz81 · 29/08/2021 11:42

I hate even walking past the pads in the supermarket because of the awful smell

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/08/2021 13:23

Why do they think we want that awful smell in our underwear? I cannot fathom it.

MakeMathsFun · 31/08/2021 12:00

Here's an idea only:

  1. Wear one forwards for a few hours.
  2. Wear another backwards for a few hours.
  3. Seal in an airtight plastic bag.
  4. Post to the manufacturer to ask which was correct.
  5. Also ask for a free packet to compensate for giving them useful feedback that the hieroglyphic system lacks clarity.

Literally say end period stigma while adding stink to hide our natural smell when it is a stigma they have created themselves!
