where it was decided that sanitary towels will now have a definite front and back which will be indicated by hieroglyphics.

What the fuck does a star mean? Two stylised arrows pointing towards the star?

Don’t come at me with “duh! Just use a mooncup! Just use washable towels!” That’s not an option for some and the least we can expect is to make disposable sanitary items user friendly.

There is a new Always out which is unscented, I think they're positioning it as organic or some such.

Vallmo47 · 26/08/2021 08:21

I like the scented……. runs

WorriedWishingWell · 26/08/2021 08:25

So how do period pants work? Do you put one pair on in the morning and leave them on all day? Surely they need regular changing which is more inconvenient than a pad or a moon cup?

Haggisfish3 · 26/08/2021 08:27

You can leave them on all day or you take a spare pair in a bag and change into those, putting used pair in the bag. Rinse in cold water when you get home and wash. I tend to go to the toilet every couple of hours or so on heavy days, so most of the blood goes down the toilet anyway.

steppemum · 26/08/2021 08:28

I do think that people who use period pads must have very light flow.

When I was younger, my periods were really heavy. Super plus tampon plus a pad would last for 1-2 hours on the first 2 days. Always needed to get up in the middle of the night, or else sprint for the loo in the morning to avoid a river.

I know that 50% of people on mn don't believe anyone has heavy periods, but still, I cannot imagine a period pant would dela with tha much blood. It would be like a toddler walking round with an overfull nappy. Imagine sitting down and leaving a squishy imprint Envy

PANTS period PANTS not pads

user1471462428 · 26/08/2021 08:35

@steppemum I have heavy bleeding and use a reusable pantyliner and period pants. When the blood goes through the pantyliner then the period pants catch it. I had tss so can’t use tampons or a moon cup. I do like period pants as I used to just wear dark clothes and hope for the bestBlush

I appreciate what you are saying, but the very fact that you use a panty liner does rather suggest we are talking about a differnt league here.

On my heavy days, if I had used a panty liner it would have been soaked through before leaving the bathroom.
Post kids, (I mean in the couple of years afterwards) I couldn't use tampons, and I used massive maternity towels, and I basically could not leave the house on that first morning.

ChildOfFriday · 26/08/2021 08:51

Always Infinity are still unscented, though I only see them in Boots these days and not in supermarkets. I find them to deal with heavy flow well.

ChickpeaCrunch · 26/08/2021 09:11

The cheapest always ones are unscented.

Member984815 · 26/08/2021 09:15

The cheap tesco ones don't have a scent , I can't walk down the aisle with sanpro without wanting to puke with the smell.

@AndTheReasonIsYou

Urgh I can’t wear pads any more. I can’t bear that they’re all scented. Thrush in a fucking box.
Try Natracare. They are unscented and plastic free.
Bortles · 26/08/2021 09:26

Hehe. I was thinking about this the other day but more interested that all people just sort of understand meaning of the symbols. And yeah, star for clitoris! Obviously I was wrong OP Grin

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/08/2021 09:39

Where can I get Natracare? Do I need to go to a health food shop?

After 15 blissful years of needing nothing but a mooncup I am having a perimenopausal nightmare in which the mooncup overflows within an hour so I am rediscovering sanitary towels.
They do seem better designed now- yay for those nighttime ones that are about a foot long and actually manage to catch blood at both ends- but bleurgh at the revolting smell, hieroglyphics and plasticky feeling.

PlanDeRaccordement · 26/08/2021 09:41

Natracare I get from French shop here in France, but I found this U.K. website that sells them:
www.naturalcollection.com/

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/08/2021 09:42

Thanks x

I am thinking about making my own reusables too. I could use the fabrics in my quilting stash that I hate and wish I hadn’t bought.

Same! I have to use a Moon cup, overnight period pants and a towel on the bed at night now.

Moon cup and normal period pants do the job in the day.

There is an unscented Always marketed as ‘sensitive’. Ooh it makes my blood boil! Fanjos that don’t get on with scents are not ‘sensitive’ they are just ordinary fanjos. Weren’t we all told growing up not to put anything perfumed there and to wear cotton underwear?

It just smacks of them trying to create this idea that you are dirty and stink on your period so you should cover it up. If that makes you itch, it’s because there is something wrong with you but don’t worry we also have a special product for that. The age old make women feel shit about themselves to make money.

Saucery · 26/08/2021 10:48

Bodyform are unscented. The pink packet and the nighttime ones.

FoxgloveSummers · 26/08/2021 10:51

Ah yes I also don't know what the patterns and hieroglyphics mean on sanitary stuff. Thank god I'm not the only one.

The worst thing about the scented ones for me is the incredibly weird sensation of smelling your sanitary towel just about constantly as you go about your day. Oh good, I do like to sniff the contents of my pants on the regular. I agree that only a man could have thought this. Do the designers think that we can (almost retching writing this) smell our menstrual blood if they don't fucking febreze it for us? I have never had that problem!!!! has anyone???

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/08/2021 11:05

‘The worst thing about the scented ones for me is the incredibly weird sensation of smelling your sanitary towel just about constantly as you go about your day.‘

Yes! Hate it!
I have a theory. I think they are trying to get us used to nasty smelling ones so they can introduce premium ones that smell nice and charge £££.

TempName01 · 26/08/2021 11:28

The scented ones are revolting ☹️

Elletine · 26/08/2021 11:34

@Vallmo47 me too Blush

Waitrose stock Natracare so worth checking there if you have access to one
