where it was decided that sanitary towels will now have a definite front and back which will be indicated by hieroglyphics.

What the fuck does a star mean? Two stylised arrows pointing towards the star?

Don’t come at me with “duh! Just use a mooncup! Just use washable towels!” That’s not an option for some and the least we can expect is to make disposable sanitary items user friendly.

Always have started doing some “sensitive” ones that aren’t scented.

Yeah they're good. And cheaper too.

“If you’ve got a minecraft fanjo” is now my favourite MN quote ever.

@RhodesianRidgeback

I use Natracare too, I know this sounds bonkers but I’m sure I bleed more using always or body form, maybe something to do with all the chemicals? Much lighter when I use natracare.
This is interesting do you think it s a conspiracy by the Always scented towel manufacturers ?????
Deidre21 · 27/08/2021 20:15

Waitrose sells Natracare

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/08/2021 20:20

I hate the scented ones! It’s a shame as I find always really absorbent but the smell is go awful.

Gbtch · 27/08/2021 20:37

Answer is simple. Instead of starts or patterns they should put an “F” for Front ( or “Fanny”) and a “B” for Back ( or Bum)

Morgysmum · 27/08/2021 20:47

I think it's one of them, you learn from trail and error jobs. I tend to put the smaller end to the front.
More frustrating is when you take the cover of the wings to apply and they end up rolling up on to the back side of the pad, before you have had chance to apply them to your knickers.
I remember my first period, I hadn't told my mum, but used a pad of hers. I thought I was wearing a nappy, turns out it was a night time pad, when they use to make them as thick as possible.
I tend to use wilkos own as, they aren't as purfumed. I was surprised when I brought some brand tampons, which were plastic insert, wrapped in plastic, as the wilko own tampons are in paper and cardboard.
I did treat my self to some period knickers. But they were too tight on my legs, so not used them.
I definitely think, they need to make them, more environmentally better, plus nappies as not everyone can afford the alternatives.
I am luckily getting older, so don't have to worry about periods, for too much longer.

LapinR0se · 27/08/2021 20:53

None of the pads can deal with even a vaguely heavy flow. I use a super tampon and always ultra night together 24/7 during my period and that’s just about enough.

Mirw · 27/08/2021 20:54

People need to be able to use them!! Not just women... So instructions need to be given so transwomen can use them for their "periods"....the world has gone mad!!

Lozzie86 · 27/08/2021 21:04

@FangsForTheMemory

* = bumhole?
My first thought too, haha.
gogohm · 27/08/2021 21:07

Just buy Lidl own brand cheaper and no gimmicks

Sarjest · 27/08/2021 21:24

I’m with you, @gogohm, Lidl or Aldi, no gimmicks. And less packaging/ wrapping. I’m bewildered as to why some of the brands need so much plastic wrapping!

ChipmunksInAttic · 27/08/2021 22:40

umm I like the scented pads actually… 😬
and I can definitely smell my period and I find it awful.

josbd · 28/08/2021 00:35

I seem to remember years ago there being a great deal of outrage when one brand of pad bore the happy little message "have a happy period" on each one.... That would be a man's idea, too

Sleepisoverrated1977 · 28/08/2021 08:39

I know the thought of reusable pads are horrible but actually they're great. I started using them around 4 years ago and I couldn't go back. I just think of the landfill, if every woman uses disposable pads and tampons that is a HUGE amount of landfill! My only regret is that I didn't start using them sooner.

I think the rationale for "people" menstruating is that women who ID as men (transmen) may still be menstruating and are offended by any reference that suggests only women menstruate. Even though if they are menstruating, they ARE women.
WorriedWishingWell · 28/08/2021 09:05

I really don't understand wings. I grew up when the whole advertising around towels was that they were so discrete that you could use them while roller blading in miniscule white hot pants or doing cartwheels in a leotard. How is having sticky flaps on the outside of your knickers discrete?

Flyingantday · 28/08/2021 09:11

For those worried about floods/leaks in period pants, it might be worth looking at interlabial pads to absorb/direct/slow down flow.

Cupcakeschocolate · 28/08/2021 09:24

I was just talking to dh about this the other day and I was complaining. I need pads with wings. Yet all the ones I've tried the wings don't fold over the side of the pants properly. Going back to wingless as it's just too stressful! How in 2021 has there not been a group of women who could design a decent pad or are all the approving boards men! I was on a rant and said to dh that there are ads on the TV advertising viagra to help a man with his set life. Yet we have shitty hormonal contraception, and pads that don't work properly.

Cupcakeschocolate · 28/08/2021 09:24

Sex* life

Sceptre86 · 28/08/2021 09:32

I use two kotex pads for day 1-5 and then go down to one for the remainder of the period. No faff with which way is up.
