where it was decided that sanitary towels will now have a definite front and back which will be indicated by hieroglyphics.

What the fuck does a star mean? Two stylised arrows pointing towards the star?

Don’t come at me with “duh! Just use a mooncup! Just use washable towels!” That’s not an option for some and the least we can expect is to make disposable sanitary items user friendly.

It reminds me of the joke about having C&A in your knickers so you knew which way round to put them on.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/08/2021 14:05

These Natracare are lovely. they feel all papery and soft and the only thing they smell of is the health food shop.

user1471462428 · 26/08/2021 14:42

@EastWestWhosBest that’s interesting, I had a thread about it recently as I’m incredibly anxious about trying a moon cup. Just need to brace myself.
@steppemum I’m not sure the pad has about 4 layers in it and my period pants have bamboo which apparently is absorbable. I know that my Gynae says I’m a heavy bleeder as I’m always anaemic but I’m fairly regularly changing myself during my period so try not to flood as I’m patient facing and it’s embarrassing.

Bodyform aren't scented - I use them as a backup but am moving over to a mix of reusable pads & pants.
These reusable pads from Honour Your Flow are huge! I've got the Mega Slim & they're bigger than Bodyform nighttime pads. Not had any leaks with them yet & they go a long way, front & back & have no correct end.

@AndTheReasonIsYou

Urgh I can’t wear pads any more. I can’t bear that they’re all scented. Thrush in a fucking box.
Thrush in a box Grin

Scented are terrible. Agree find Tesco brands v good. I like Natracare too. Seems to be scented everywhere now

cinnabarmoth · 26/08/2021 20:27

I bought a pack of scented ones recently and ended up donating them to a local food bank, though I felt guilty about them being scented. Horrible things, I can't bear the smell even before opening the packet. I remember scented sanitary towels and vaginal deodorants being available in the 80s then they seemed to disappear pretty much, now they have really taken hold again, despite that we surely know better these days. I wonder why they have become popular/are being forced on us?

I use always sensitive for that reason. Though mainly have to use maternity pads anywho.

Op it's annoying. I just wear them whichever way they happen to go.

Verbena87 · 26/08/2021 21:09

I’ve got some I made using a cheap IKEA cot mattress protector as the base, then a couple of layers of cotton Terry and topped with cotton shirting. For something very home made they’re surprisingly good; genuinely comfy and wash well.

I wear one inside period pants then remove and dry bag at lunchtime for work days so I stay comfy and dry.

These have been a life changer for me, I never ever flood/leak with them and my periods are heavy
On lighter days I use raghag pads from Etsy which are still great and I get the long length ones

BashfulClam · 26/08/2021 21:14

I always use them back to front as my period blood seems to come quite far up at the front 🤷🏻‍♀️ and if I put the shorter bit at the front it tend to get a leak above the pad.

@AndTheReasonIsYou bodyform aren’t scented and I pray they stay like that.

Frlrlrubert · 26/08/2021 21:23

I use them back to front since having DD rearranged my undercarriage. Before that I definitely needed them the 'right' way.

I use the coop own brand unscented ones, had to but always night last week as they didn't have any coop ones and the pong was epic. Luckily I don't suffer with thrush, so only my nose is offended by them, but bloody hell they stink.

Purplealienpuke · 26/08/2021 21:28

@AndTheReasonIsYou, Bodyform aren't scented. I can't use scented anything on my foof

AutistGoth · 26/08/2021 22:28

At the age of 10/11 (very early 00s), all the health books taught me never to put anything artificially scented near the vulva. Certainly not inside the actual vagina.

Thank you, EvilWolefGenius. Good to know.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 27/08/2021 17:33

I love my mini-pill - no periods ever!

thenovice · 27/08/2021 17:41

Is it an asterisk as a footnote from the male designer who doesn't know which way round it goes?

Harmonypuss · 27/08/2021 17:54

Does it really matter?
The important bit's in the middle isn't it?

MatildaJane · 27/08/2021 18:09

Yes the obsession about scenting pads is annoying. And they do it with toilet paper, I don’t know why because obviously it gets flushed away as soon as you use it. I’m allergic to the cheap perfume they use, so that’s a nightmare. It’s unnecessary chemicals unleashed on the environment, too. 😡😡

Aye, if you’ve got a minecraft fanjo

I just put it the way around that suits me, which is actually back to front at night because I sleep on my front!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 27/08/2021 18:27

Shit! Well yeah shit, I thought star was for “starfish” I only use them for night time menopause nightmare, now I know?.?

H0neylove · 27/08/2021 18:36

Scented pads! who the heck invented scented pads, they are my absolutely bug bear. Even when they don’t say scented they are still scented.

So now I have to stand on the feminine isle trying to discreetly smell they packets to make sure they don’t smell. Otherwise it’s like hive city down there GrinWink

TheWayTheLightFalls · 27/08/2021 18:38

I always thought the flower represented the clitoris and was therefore the front end. Maybe just me.

Wineandroses3 · 27/08/2021 19:11

I hate that all pads are now scented , that scent is absolutely vile in all of them! I also hate the wings too, trying to find unscented without wings pads now is not easy! The only ones I can use are Sureness from Home bargain, can’t wear any of the supermarket ones 😡

PerditaNitt · 27/08/2021 19:20

Another vote for always infinity - Unscented (and no stars to show you the front or back!). They are absolutely incredible versus all other brands and I’d be gutted if they stopped making them.

I am tempted to try period pants based on this thread though just to save on my plastic (…although more blooming washing doesn’t appeal much, but hey ho)
