In not wanting to hear swimmers...

Local sea swimmer club swim 9 slots a week on our local beach. Huge stretch of beach but for some reason swim opposite the closest houses (and a care home)..
The first slot is 6 am. Much noise... Enough to wake every member who sleeps at the front of our house!!
I have left a complaint of sorts on our local news page.
Hands up how many mners swim shouting Woo Woo at 6 am? 8 am? Or 8 pm? Isn't swimming a sedentary hobby?
Huge car park and access to the beach further along with no houses across the road. Senseless thoughtless people imo..
Rant over - been awake since, yep 6 A bloody am.

Seems odd that sea swimmers would make a lot of noise, all that exercise, and water in your face and eyes, and concentration etc.. It's not like people in holiday swimming pools, bobbing up and down, shouting and having fun and making a racket.

IntermittentParps · 25/08/2021 15:06

Your best bet is definitely contacting the club directly. They probably aren’t aware they are waking people up. Be polite and let them know which noises are traveling.
I should think this would do it.

If they're on FB an't you FB message them? (and why do you have to ask dd to message?)

SpindleWhorl · 25/08/2021 15:11

Is it just one Woo Woo Man being a wanker?

I bet the other swimmers hate him too. They'll be grateful for your intervention.

Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 25/08/2021 15:19

I could message via dd's fb. I have no sm. Except mn if it is classed as such (?!)
Several voices are heard but one deep over excitable male one!! Would have thought the temp he was submerged in would have brought tears to his throat not whoops of joy!!

@SpindleWhorl

We have dog walkers who shriek across the street to each other every fucking morning at 6am at the moment.

Absolute selfish knobbers. I can't sleep with my window open now.

Dog walking = lovely.

Shrieking across a road at 6am in a residential area = arseholes.

We've got this problem too. Drives me insane.
Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 25/08/2021 15:32

I have been known to shout pure fish wife style out of my bedroom window..
Blush
No shame but then neither had they about being such rubbish citizens!!

Noise carries well over water, I remember being on a beach by Windermere, when a foreign student and his english friend had swum out a long way to the middle of the lake, an eighty year old lady was swimming by the shore, and the student said very clearly, ennunciating his words 'The old lady is very fat' Shock

LubaLuca · 25/08/2021 15:35

I think I'd nip over there and let them know they're waking you all up. See if you can identify The Gob and head straight for him.

Tlollj · 25/08/2021 15:41

There’s some pricks in the park near me every fucking Sunday whooping and cheering doing exercises.
I don’t live near enough to shout out the window otherwise I would. Music blaring as well.

Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 12/09/2021 10:16

So my dh went down midweek (sessions are 3 times a day not 3 a week as I thought)and found a 40th birthday get together in full swing complete with balloons! . He mentioned the fact their voices can be heard in our home. Most had no idea noise travels apparently... Some didn't engage - fair enough..
Yesterday the woo woo was ramped up at 6 am. Dh went down again. Met up with a man who claimed to just be a dog walker despite dh watching him leave the sea and get dressed! Was very rude and told dh we would have to sue him!! So reporting to the council is what we will have to do. Apparently a party is planned for next month to celebrate their first year swimming.. That's how long we have heard them.
Too bloody long ime.

Sad

Are these the kind of sea swimmers who jump in the sea in a group of about 30, all yelling and hollering each other on, swim out for 10 mins then Take a million selfies half in the water with loads more congratulatory yelling? Very irritating and exhibitionist at any time of the day, bloody rude at 6am.

If so contact the club and ask them to tone it down. If you don’t know the club ask on Facebook (saying you want to join in maybe)

I love sea swimming but not the nutters who think it’s some big achievement to jump in and make tons of noise and show off.

Coogee · 12/09/2021 11:12

How can swimming be 'sedentary'?

Oddly enough,I was swimming the sea with my husband yesterday and he claimed to be sedentary swimming. He floats in a sitting position and propels himself using breast stroke arms only.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 12/09/2021 11:17

I bet some of them are also cyclists.

Condolences, OP.

lljkk · 12/09/2021 11:25

I slightly know some sea (channel) swimmers; they are fairly mad, rowdy, very chatty & noisy at the pool so probably similar on the beach. Built like tanks, I'm fairly at least one gal is high functioning ADHD.

I've also known some rather mad competitive club swimmers, they would chase each other around the changing room, starkers, howling with laughter.

Just very up front personalities. They wouldn't mind being directly approached & asked to pipe down and would try to calm themselves.

Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 12/09/2021 11:26

Yes - photos all over Instagram and FB of which I am not in but can see the main page.
Will contact the council tomorrow as my head is banging and what's the point in having laws if they aren't called upon to be enforced? The man and a few women actually stood and watched dh go home. Trying to be intimidating in a pair of Speedos didnt quite work!!

That happened to me once, @TwoLeftSocksWithHoles. I was out walking with a friend and it sounded as though they were walking along a few feet away. It was weird.

I agree with asking the club sec to ask them to keep their voices down, OP.

sirfredfredgeorge · 12/09/2021 11:37

Did they build the beach after you bought the house or before?

You knew it was there, beaches are obviously recreational places for people to use, YABU, just a poor choice of place to live if you can't deal with the noise of people using the adjacent space.

Dillyjones72 · 12/09/2021 11:39

Maybe get up and join them? You’re awake anyway…

TillyTopper · 12/09/2021 11:49

Go over and speak to the leader of the group one morning, perhaps they don't realise how inconsiderate they are being. Or join them?!

Spot the person with no consideration for others...

6am is not a time to yell and shriek near houses, beach or not.

Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 12/09/2021 11:54

My dh has asked them if they realised noise travels - they didn't apparently ..for a year this has been going on.
Advertised as daily at 3 times. 6 am.7 am and 8 pm. Huge stretch of beach.. Only they choose opposite the closest houses. Including a care home.
Noise is classed as a nuisance before 7 am so should they be allowed to advertise and invite people to make a din at 6 am and that be acceptable?
And yes for over 5 years we lived in peace.
They aren't considerate or approachable...

The swim club should still have consideration for the people living nearby, and I bet you wouldn't be happy with noise every morning at an early hour.
