To have never stripped a hotel bed

rockaround · 24/08/2021 10:51

I've just been reading a post on Facebook about a man who always strips his bed before leaving his hotel. There's comment after comment (probably around 95%) of people saying that they always strip the bed too.

I always make sure the room is clean and tidy and I put the towels together but I have never stripped the bed. Does everyone do this and I am a bad guest?

YABU- stop being lazy and strip the bed
YANBU - I don't do this either

Never stripped a hotel bed.

I have stripped holiday cottage beds if asked

RogueV · 24/08/2021 10:53

I have never stripped a hotel bed.

Mrsjayy · 24/08/2021 10:55

No never. I know somebody who workedin hotel house keeping they had a routine for the bed linen and. It went in different parts of the laundry trolly. So I just leave it .

BlusteryLake · 24/08/2021 10:55

I have never stripped a hotel bed, but do in self catering accommodation.

Mrsjayy · 24/08/2021 10:56

Yea In self catering I do.

HarrietsChariot · 24/08/2021 10:57

If they expected you to strip the bed they'd expect you to make it as well, just leaving the folded sheets on the bed when you get into the room.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 24/08/2021 10:57

I haven’t either, OP.

I have stripped beds in holiday cottages when the booking conditions request it.

LittleGwyneth · 24/08/2021 10:58

This is like people who take their hoover on holiday so they can spend the last day deep cleaning the cottage. Totally unnecessary, and a bit martyred.

I've been housekeeping and I'd agree.

Unless you are asked to do something don't - chances are you'll upset someone's routine and some of the chain hotels have a stopwatch on you!

DuckDuckGooses · 24/08/2021 10:58

Yanbu Grin I make sure towels are in a pile in the bath / on the floor and there's no rubbish left out - but I've never ever stripped a bed Confused Without sounding too rude, if I'm on holiday staying in a nice hotel I don't want to do anything remotely housework-y like stripping bed linen!

NoYOUbekind · 24/08/2021 10:58

Oh jesus no, no-one needs to see what their hotel mattress actually looks like!

I used to be a hotel chambermaid and can confirm that no-one strips their bed. It would probably be really annoying if they did though because you have a set 'routine' for every room and not very long to do it. Also we used to have to identify any really bad stains for the laundry by knotting the item, so would still have to check through the sheets and stuff by hand. Quicker to do a visual when they're still on the bed.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/08/2021 10:59

If I have time I do. Strip the bed, chuck the towels in the bath, put all the mugs and glasses next to the bathroom sink.

I used to work in a hotel though, so I knew it helped.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 24/08/2021 10:59

I have never done this apart from the last time I stayed in a hotel and guests were asked to do it, so I did but it was weird!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/08/2021 11:00

This kind of routine! Unless you've done it I doubt anyone would think of such stuff.

NoYOUbekind · 24/08/2021 11:03

Laughing at your comment about the stopwatch @CuriousaboutSamphire ... Oh I remember it well Smile

rookiemere · 24/08/2021 11:18

Why on earth would I strip a hotel bed ?
I do for holiday rentals when it's requested.

Palavah · 24/08/2021 11:19

Yep, when i was a chambermaid it was a PITA if guests stripped the bed.

I put rubbish in the bin, used towels in the bath, but that's it.

In self - catering I do the same but strip beds /empty bins according to instructions if applicable, and wash-up/put the dishwasher on. I will have cleaned up any spills or skids as I go anyway. I do not understand people who spend the last day or their holiday doing cleaning that they've already paid for someone else to do.

tickledtiger · 24/08/2021 11:24

No.. don’t want to know what the mattress looks like tbh.

VetInAVat · 24/08/2021 11:27

I'm with pp, if I'm à hotel, it means I'm on holiday, so no housework type stuff from me!

doscervesas · 24/08/2021 11:28

Owners of self-catering places say they prefer to see the bedlinen on the bed in case of stains though of course if they asked I would strip the bed.

I never strip hotel beds, just turn the duvet down tidily.

knittingaddict · 24/08/2021 11:29

Holiday cottage - yes.

Hotel - no.

I think it was an expectation years ago that you did this in holiday homes and Center Parcs definitely request that you do this as the turnaround is so tight. It was requested in the recent Airbnb we stayed in. We had to strip the mattress and pillow protectors too. Maybe a covid measure.

Footballschmootball · 24/08/2021 11:29

I always do!

knittingaddict · 24/08/2021 11:32

The mattress and pillows were very clean when we stripped the bed in the Airbnb, so no nasty surprises. Thank goodness.

knittingaddict · 24/08/2021 11:33

@Footballschmootball

I always do!
In a hotel?
Kotatsu · 24/08/2021 11:33

Never - I've never been in housekeeping, but I always assumed that I'd make it more hassle by doing it than not (correctly from reading here).

Like everyone else, I just put rubbish in the bin, and put the towels in the bath.
