To have never stripped a hotel bed

I've just been reading a post on Facebook about a man who always strips his bed before leaving his hotel. There's comment after comment (probably around 95%) of people saying that they always strip the bed too.

I always make sure the room is clean and tidy and I put the towels together but I have never stripped the bed. Does everyone do this and I am a bad guest?

YABU- stop being lazy and strip the bed
YANBU - I don't do this either

Never ever done it.

Have done it in a holiday let when asked to, but otherwise have left it as is.

I'd assume someone had peed the bed if it were stripped!

UnsuitableHat · 24/08/2021 16:54

I’d probably pull the sheets back (so it didn’t literally look as if I’d just got up) but I certainly wouldn’t strip it.

Toolateplanting · 24/08/2021 17:05

(When temping as a chambermaid) I would definitely have looked askance at the stripped bed and assume there was a terrible surprise waiting within the sheets.

Also memories of toddler’s vomiting bug in a Travelodge. Couldn’t find anyone to get clean sheets for ages! yes, stripped that bed but I am sure we were nightmare clients that day.

I work as a housekeeper, been there about 2 months and I've only experienced one guest stripping their bed in that time. I think she was an elderly lady; she neatly folded all the bed linen and put in into 3 separate piles. It saved me about 5 mins but tbh my small independent hotel are fairly relaxed.
It would never occur to me to empty the kettle as a guest
The most untidy rooms I see are youngish men traveling alone

Do the people who strip beds also rinse their plates in restaurants?

Of course not, I doubt they’d let me in the kitchen (obvs). I do though, for example, put my used crockery and cutlery back on my tray if it’s a cafe type place and clean any skids marks I leave on a loo with the brush. Anything other random questions that have no bearing on stripping a bed?

Who's your favourite member of cast of Friends?

MaMelon · 24/08/2021 17:43

Ross, of course Grin

Spodge · 24/08/2021 17:55

No, I would not strip the bed. Also, I utterly hate it when guests strip the bed if they have stayed at my house. I may not be planning to launder the sheets on the day they leave and would rather them looking neat on the bed than taking up space in the laundry basked. As such I always ask if people want the bed stripped if I am staying at someone else's house, and usually they say "no".

PurBal · 24/08/2021 17:59

I have. But only because I was ill and had vomited on it.

pinkcattydude · 24/08/2021 18:03

No I’d be too scared to see evidence of bedbugs

isthisareverse · 24/08/2021 18:28

it wasn't random at all, and you know it.

It's to prevent the usual "you think you are too grand to strip a bed" nonsense that always pops up, when it's not about looking down at menial job, it's about paying for a holiday, not to do chores.
Same was as paying in a restaurant is not to do chores.

isthisareverse · 24/08/2021 18:29

of course they say "no", that's basic manners. It doesn't mean they enjoy stripping your bed.

maofteens · 24/08/2021 18:32

I strip the bed in a holiday let, but never in a hotel. I also leave a tip in a hotel, but not a holiday let!

Looubylou · 24/08/2021 18:33

Never. I'd be too afraid of what I might see.

hollyhocksarenotmessy · 24/08/2021 18:35

@isthisareverse

Do you go a full week at home without hoovering though?

you can normally pay for a mid-stay clean when you rent a holiday place.

We only hoover once a week, yes. Only 2 of us, no kids, no pets, doesn't need it more often.
mamatoTails · 24/08/2021 18:35

Not in a hotel. But if we were in a holiday cottage, or a lodge, self catering property then yes, I always strip the beds.

WaterIsBest · 24/08/2021 18:40

I dont strip the bed, but i make sure everything is tidy, any take away food boxes, are outside the room, everything is in the bin, Cups / glasses etc are near the kettle, Used towels in the bath etc

ACloseMatch · 24/08/2021 18:42

Never.

I always put the used towels in the bath though.

footprintsintheslow · 24/08/2021 18:42

Always strip the bed here

CheerfulBunny · 24/08/2021 18:46

Never stripped a bed but very relieved to know I'm not the only person who tidies up a bit before leaving a hotel room. I don't want housekeeping to come in and think 'urgh, what a pig they were!' although I guess they probably give zero shits unless it's completely horrendous.

ElizaDoolots · 24/08/2021 18:58

LST

Do you go a full week at home without hoovering though?

Yes, regularly. And I certainly wouldn’t be doing it on holiday where I’ve gone for a break.

dottypencilcase · 24/08/2021 18:58

I always strip the bed and leave it folded neatly at the foot of the bed. All used towels are placed in the bath and everything is given a once over with a baby wipe before I/we leave. I've done this since I was 17 🙈

bruffin · 24/08/2021 19:00

I pull back duvet and sheet, luckily i did last week as my kindle had worked its way to bottom of bed

Biancadelrioisback · 24/08/2021 19:01

It takes seconds to do and massively helps housekeeping staff who often have 20 mins or less to completely flip the room.

I also used to work in hotels
