To be fed up at still having regular periods at 54?

I've had enough now!!!
I've had extremely irregular painful periods for most of my life (ended up in a and e a few times, often blacked out with the pain, nausea, vomiting) which improved after I had my kids 14 years ago but still irregular. Then for the last four years, I have had a 28 day cycle............it feels like the universe is having a laugh..............
I just want out now!!!

I was so glad that mine seemed to have packed up! Last one was last year but now I’m on HRT and back to a “period” every month 😔

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/08/2021 18:27

I am with you. Almost identical situation. Except that I now haven't had a period for 3 months so think this is it - I turn 55 in 2 months. No menopause symptoms though.

RedHelenB · 23/08/2021 18:29

What are HRT periods like, lighter than before or the same?

Mary46 · 23/08/2021 18:30

Thats a pain op. Im 48 have coil. Dont really bleed now. Before that they had been so draining as you know well

GoodnightGrandma · 23/08/2021 18:31

I’ve recently had a coil put in to try and get rid of mine.

Queenfreak · 23/08/2021 18:32

I'm sick of them at 44! Another 10 years seems really bloody unfair!

MaMelon · 23/08/2021 18:32

I’m with you! 52 and still as regular as clockwise. I did have 7 weeks between my periods last month and got really excited in case that was the end of them but no, it’s reappeared, bigger and better than ever before Confused

Stripyhoglets · 23/08/2021 18:33

I got a mirena at 50 as mine were showing no signs of stopping send had become very heavy and very painful. They've reduced to barely nothing now.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 23/08/2021 18:36

Poor you OP. Seems a bit late to get a coil in now as surely they won’t last another 5 years!

I’m 47 and really really hoped they’d be over by 50. Still super regular so probably not.
I should get a coil it but I’m really squeamish about it and would probably pass out.

billy1966 · 23/08/2021 18:37

Absolutely not.
Such a dose.
Was thrilled to see the back of them.
My youngest has stinkers just like I had and I feel so sorry for her.

Wilkolampshade · 23/08/2021 18:38

Oh god YES! 53 here, regular as clockwork but damn near psycopathic PMT (actually started packing to leave DH last month) and the bleed itself, though shorter at 3 days, is the heaviest and most painful I've ever knownConfused Had to get up and change 3 times in the night last night. Awful. Why? Just why???

Undisclosedlocation · 23/08/2021 18:46

Be careful what you wish for. At 56 I’ve finally stopped for the past four months. Brilliant, I thought.
Then 2 weeks ago the bloody hot flushes started! Not had a full nights sleep since. Apparently they can last a few years - err I’ll go back to periods then, thanks!

user1498572889 · 23/08/2021 19:11

I was still having regular periods at 54. I was jealous of my friends who were younger than me but had gone through the menopause. By 55 they just stopped and the menopause was no where near as bad as it had been for my younger friends.

takemetomars · 23/08/2021 19:13

@RedHelenB

Heavier for me
Tinpotspectator · 23/08/2021 19:15

Im sure I read somewhere that late menopause leads to longer life. If that cheers you up! Mine was at the normal time, at 50-51, but I was spared any of the symptoms, so I'll hope the same for you.

PaperMonster · 23/08/2021 19:41

I’m 52. Spent the last five years on the pill as periods were causing me to disassociate. I’m now in a position where I can’t do the 40 mile round trip to get more so stopped taking them three months ago and had one period since. Am hoping I have no more.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 23/08/2021 20:08

About the same, maybe slightly lighter.
Nicklebox · 23/08/2021 20:10

I am 60 now and mine stopped a couple of years ago. I was very heavy for years before they stopped. But the end came quite quickly had one year where i had about 3 periods say Feb Mar and then nothing until Nov and after that nothing. So you may stop quite suddenly.

Callimanco · 23/08/2021 20:13

I don't seem to get periods on HRT. Apparently about 15 percent of women don't.

Chiffandbip · 23/08/2021 20:13

This happened to my 49 year old friend then they stopped and she thought it was the menopause but found she was pregnant!

MaMelon · 23/08/2021 20:15

Oh my goodness Shock How did she cope?
BatshitCrazyWoman · 23/08/2021 20:17

I'm 57, and have to have sequential HRT as my own 'cycle' kept breaking through when I was on continuous HRT. My periods on HRT are lighter than they were before.

Cryalot2 · 23/08/2021 20:21

I had regular full on until I was 66 + then tailed off and had 2 mega ones which had me going to gyne to get checked out. Was told my periods were going out in style . Finally going through the menopause at almost 58.
Yet I come from a family who had early menopauses.
Very few hot flushes, no help from gp who never told me I was going through it. I was so emotional and my memory went awol . At one stage I couldn't think straight as to what to wear. But heck its just a journey , no periods, no pregnancy worries. And you find you couldn't care less on others opinions. There was so much freedom until covid stole that.

PearlyBird · 23/08/2021 20:22

I'm on a progesterone only pill, back to back, no periods thankfully.
I'm 51

PheasantsNest · 23/08/2021 20:23

My DM was still having them at 63 when she had a hysterectomy.
