Live in south east not sure if that has any relevance. Just doing some walking and stopped of at an ice cream van.Got a small ice cream (one scoop) and been charged £3! Am shocked. Not brought an ice cream from a van for years but are these the prices? And if so how do families with kids afford this?.
Maybe I was just ripped of but AIBU to think things like this are ridiculously expensive and how does a family with a couple of kids afford things like this?

Jesus, some of these posts are so utterly joyless.
Just go fucking wild and buy your kid a cone from the van. It's not a massive treat and it's no big deal.

The ice cream van between Primrose Hill and Regents Park charged me £4 for an ice cream a few weeks back.

It does appear that many people seem to be baffled that Covid and especially Brexit have produced inflation, which is baffling in itself as it was very clear that rising inflation would result from both.

The Primrose Hill/Regent's Park area is one of the most expensive in London. Full of affluent families with kids on a day out longing for a Mr Whippy on a scorching day.

Nothing to do with inflation, Covid, or Brexit Hmm

@Whammyyammy

Its standard in UK holiday resorts to rip tourists off. I refuse too holiday in UK for 2 reasons. Crap weather and rip off Britain.

I feel UK tourism has really missed a trick, could if shown people that go abroad normally thstba UK holiday can be good. But nope , rip people off constantly.

People will vote with their feet

DH and I have had several breaks at different places on the UK coast this summer, and I can honestly say I've not once felt ripped off. Only this week we went to a restaurant for a cooked supper and an alcoholic drink each, all very pleasant, delicious, and good service, and the bill came to just over £22. I couldn't believe the value and left a good tip.

I agree some places are rip offs, but you don't have to use those. Accommodation is more expensive here than abroad and some owners have definitely tried it on this year, but often it's just a factor of how much property costs in this country.

We've really enjoyed our trips away in the UK this summer, and have discovered new areas we will return to in the future.

Not everyone has £10 and more to blow on ice cream.

Yet in many places, a glass of wine each would be the best part of £22 so you were exceptionally fortunate to have a meal out for that price.

I live on the south coast. I never buy from ice cream vans as I have found in the past they do inflate their prices.

However, average cost of a generous one scoop at a kiosk or take away at ice cream parlour is about £2.75-3.

I did go to another town for a weekend and was pleasantly surprised that I got the dc one each for £2.
