I am not sure what, but I have seen their previous demonstrations, and support their cause.

We were given badges at one event, and travelled home on public transport wearing them, and received absolutely nothing but 100% support from other travellers, which was nice, as I expected some hostility, publicly wearing their badges while roads in London were closed by them

What and there was no one else that they could have interviewed about the environment? At an environment rally?!
Mark my words, she'll be on love island in a year.

DynamoKev · 24/08/2021 10:21

Caroline Lucas seems to do a pretty good job of practicing what she preaches - and she manages to do it without disrupting ordinary people and leaving piles of litter. I can respect her. I can’t respect XR.

Darker · 24/08/2021 10:29

I respect her too. We need more people like Caroline Lucas.

But what XR are doing is very different. Caroline spoke at XR in 2020 in Parliament Square.

BelleOfTheProvince · 24/08/2021 10:34

Well you are putting off people who could be better ambassadors.
I care about the environment. But I don't want to fuck up people's lives in the process.
Whilst that's happening they'll continue to attract attention seekers, hypocrites and thugs.

DynamoKev · 24/08/2021 10:38

If we had a proper electoral system we’d have more Green Party MPs

BelleOfTheProvince · 24/08/2021 10:39

I hope not. Green party are anti women.

BelleOfTheProvince · 24/08/2021 10:41

Greens focus changed years ago from environmental focus to gender ideology focus. They're far too distracted by campaigning for men's rights to focus on climate change.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 24/08/2021 11:42

Well, I obviously got out of bed before they did this morning, as I didn't have any problems at London Bridge.

Apparently, some have turned up outside the station for a bit of a wartime singalong in the last half hour or so whilst waiting for extras to turn up at midday. Let's hope they aren't going to cause any problems for people needing to access the hospitals or the vaccination centre from lunchtime onwards.

Hope you've been OK, @DoubleShotEspresso.

Pyewackect · 24/08/2021 12:14

Totally and utterly pointless. Gluing your self to a bus or tube train will have absolutely zero effect other than to piss a lot of people off. Just means more people working from home and yet another reason for moving out of London.

I’ve joined in the hope that we can get Shahrar Ali in as leader to fix that.
Hekatestorch · 24/08/2021 12:48

@Darker

If we wait for the ‘right’ people to come along we’ll be waiting forever.

If you want to critique leaders, look at the people who influence and make the decisions the planet.

But this isn't what this thread is about its about XR. Not the climate crisis in general.

Many people DO critique these people.

But on a thread about XR, why can't they critique the leaders of XR or XR as a group?

BelleOfTheProvince · 24/08/2021 13:07

That's good, empress,.I hope you are able to effect real change from the inside.

The greens are presently another example of abstract idealism over material reality.

I do wonder what would happen if:

Instead of paying petrol costs or train tickets to go to a protest, xr put that money towards:

Environmental crisis information campaigns in newspapers and on television, billboards etc.

Developers working on environmental projects like powering cars and vertical farming.

Developing and funding campaigns for political candidates who understand climate change.

And other ways that the older, wiser experienced voices in xr can come up with.

We're unlikely to ever know, as xr seem to think their only job is pointing out climate change. They forget this was largely done in the 90s and that all age groups are very aware of the implications of climate change.

The time for solutions is now. And xr are wasting time not focusing on that.

derxa · 24/08/2021 13:11

Environmentalists would like the land you mentioned rewilded. Such arrogance. I wonder if their gardens are rewilded.

anon12345678901 · 24/08/2021 13:12

@DynamoKev

And if you drive a diesel Getting a bit sick of this. It's not a simple argument - Diesels are actually better for the planet in terms of Co2 emissions. Like most things in this area, diesel cars has become a trendy fashionable thing to decry by people who have not looked at the bigger picture at all. No one ever said driving a petrol car helped prevent global warming - or if they did they are an utter ignoramus.
But an electric car would ultimately be the better choice. For anyone in XR to drive either a diesel or petrol car, they are hypocrites.

A 31 year old from Brighton decided to get her tits out. How very noble of her.
Just the one topless woman protestor? Pffft. We had a clump of 13 of them in Leeds last month.

Oops, I mean 12, not 13. Maybe.
"Around 12 women stood topless in a bold protest in Leeds city centre at the weekend"

"Around 12 women" Hmm

I'm in the Green party, that is completely wrong.

Trans etc is never mentioned, indeed, if you looked on their website, its not mentioned either.

Some Green people talked about it (a mistake imho) and the media jumped on the "Greens want men to be women" crap, just as they did with "Corbyn is a terrorist" or "Miliband can't eat a 'burger"

Its all designed to keep the tories in power.

BelleOfTheProvince · 24/08/2021 13:23

@jasjas1973

Their own website contradicts you.
policy.greenparty.org.uk/rr.html

Lies.

KalvinPhillipsManBun · 24/08/2021 13:31

As if the Emergency Services do not have enough to do!

LoislovesStewie · 24/08/2021 13:34

They state TWAW, pretty clear to me.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 24/08/2021 13:36

RR530 The Green Party recognises that there are many gender identities that are within, and outside of, the traditional gender binary of man and woman. The Green Party recognises that trans men are men, trans women are women, and that non-binary identities exist and are valid. We shall respect transgender and non-binary people's identities as real. The Green Party shall include, and push for further acceptance of, transgender and non-binary people within all areas of society.

From the policy page. Someone's either telling porkies upthread, or hasn't bothered to read the website.

DrSbaitso · 24/08/2021 13:45

MirdulWadhwa, that bastion of women's rights and protecting traumatised rape victims, defected to the Greens over the issue. Greens have since defended Wadhwa's unbelievably offensive and disgusting comments about rape survivors being "bigoted" and deserving to have their "prejudices challenged" if they need a female person to counsel them when they seek help.

I used to vote Green but they can fuck off now too.

BelleOfTheProvince · 24/08/2021 14:02

Am I the only one that can see clear parallels here?
Privileged groups supporting ideological stances that harm the vulnerable. Don't care about the vulnerable because their adherence to 'the cause' is more important.

It's the championing of complex issues (like gender ideology, environment) as easily solvable problems with no conflict of rights that's prevalent in these movements. Failure to engage with those who are genuinely hurt by such causes(women and people accessing their jobs, medical appointments etc)

We're at a point where actions(I don't mean getting your tits out) are less valued than ideological words.

That's why xr suck. They have no substance. No clue how to implement what they want and no care to minimise the damage of their actions.

LoislovesStewie · 24/08/2021 14:12

BelleOfTheProvince, you aren't the only one;furthermore to me, they seem somewhat cult like. Only they 'know', they only communicate what lesser mortals 'need to know' if you don't go along 100% then you are cast out and the leaders ignore the rules and do what they damn well like.
