Just that really… what does your average weekday look like?! All I seem to do is work! What do you do after work? What exercise do you fit in and when?

@Marni83

Early morning runners…. I run with no music / podcast

Can’t recommend it more highly

It’s so peaceful. Blissfully quiet and a real break from tech

You’re the opposite to me, I need music AND a someone shouting at me to exercise Grin
SirenSays · 19/08/2021 08:51

I take my dog for two long runs a day. Other than that, nothing any more since I've been trying desperately to gain weight and covid put a stop to my MMA classes.

motherrunner · 19/08/2021 08:51

Even early morning I have my music on. I’m an over thinker so if didn’t have my music I would just start worrying about stuff. Music drowns out my thoughts and just ‘let’s me be’.

yeah, love ‘the nod’. Runner’s fraternity!

I feel utterly exhausted reading this thread

Covid related now (and I hope forever more, so much more of a work/life balance.

When I worked from office though my schedule was the exact same, minus walking the dog at lunch.

Dogoodfeelgood · 19/08/2021 09:11

Yes covid related for me but will hopefully continue 2 days Wfh. I miss how active I used to be, just catching the tube was a workout in itself! So sedentary now. I shudder to think of all the health issues that will come out of how sedentary we have all been (plus crisps and booze to get through it all!)

Coogee · 19/08/2021 09:13

Covid increased the proportion of my time I work from home, but I have always been free to manage my own working hours/location.

idontknowwhyibother · 19/08/2021 09:14

I play Pokémon go and go on about a hours treck on the weekends with the DC.. that's about as excerise-y as I get. 😂

Passthecake30 · 19/08/2021 09:17

I used to wfh once a week and then went to the gym around 8pm twice a week and then at the weekend. Since Covid I’ve wfh full time and have been told I’ll be going to the office just once a month, so I’m confident I’ll be able to continue exercising at home.

motherrunner · 19/08/2021 09:18

I’m a teacher - definitely do not wfh! Have always ran at 5am and I function better in the mornings.

Wejustdontknow · 19/08/2021 09:25

I work 5am-2pm Wednesday-Friday, I do between 17k-25k steps whilst at work so those days will do nothing more. After work I do school run, make dinner, spend an hour with dp and will be in bed between 8-9pm
Weekends I go for a run when I wake up which is normally between 8-9
Monday/Tuesday I get up at 6 and go for a run first thing before coming home for school run
Ds’s are 15/8 and I wouldn’t leave the eldest in charge of younger one even for a 30 min run so do them when dp is at home.
Dp does no exercise at all, now he is nearing 40 he has put on a little weight and would benefit from finding an exercise he enjoys but instead has cut out the high calorie breakfast he used to eat for a slightly healthier option in the hopes it does the trick
During the school holidays I seem to get too lazy and although I could run before dp goes to work I never do so only run on the weekends.
I was never one for exercise and until about a year ago I could eat anything I wanted and stay very slim, I put just over a stone on last year which I have now lost again but if I don’t exercise I can’t eat chocolate like I used to and I love chocolate so have found I also enjoy running, I tried the gym but didn’t enjoy it very much and I agree that exercising is about finding what you like doing so you don’t have to motivate yourself too much to get it done

Icenii · 19/08/2021 09:25

Switched to a permanent WFH job. Covid made me release how toxic my last organisation was.

workwoes123 · 19/08/2021 09:39

J have no such thing as a normal weekday and neither does anyone else in my family: it does my head in 🙄

Exercise is limited to cycling to work 3-4 days a week, which is better than nothing: half an hour each way, on the flat but often windy. My youngest is off to secondary this year so no longer needs picked up, so I’m hoping to get organised with a cheap daytime gym membership as I work part-time.

JazzerMcCreary · 19/08/2021 09:57

Work days - get up 7ish, DH and I take a child each to get ready for nursery/grandparents/day with DH, get myself washed and dressed, shove some food into my mouth and get out of the door by 8. Work 8.30-5ish. Home about 6. Either train (run/bike/pilates) as soon as I get back or get the children in bed and train later. Dinner usually happens about 9 for us and it’s bed shortly after. One day per week I go on a club run. One day DH trains club runners so I do bedtime, sometimes I manage to squeeze a workout in the hour between getting home and DH leaving but otherwise I train when he gets back.

Day off in the week - Usually DH will relieve me for an hour or so to train in the morning or afternoon, depending on his schedule (self-employed). Sometimes I’ll take the baby for a buggy run if she’s due a nap and he’ll just watch DS.

Saturday - Drop the children with my mum for about 8.15, go to parkrun with my dad, family breakfast/brunch afterwards. Family activity late morning/early afternoon. Take turns to train late afternoon whilst the other person does dinner/bed/bath.

Sunday - DH usually does his long run early (he’s a much better morning person!), I get up with the kids and we potter about in pjs, DH comes back and takes over, I go for a long run mid-morning, we spend the rest of the day together.

Sometimes at the weekend we’ll go somewhere any one of us will take the kids for a walk/park/beach and the other will run.

We don’t have a rigid schedule, we just work around the kids, our work, and any club/social runs we might have in the calendar. DD(9mo) isn’t an amazing sleeper so sometimes DH has to put her in the sling whilst I train of an evening. We just prioritise and make it work.

Themadcatparade · 19/08/2021 10:01

I used to do some light yoga before work (wfh) and a workout at lunchtime. Then about two or three times a week if I don’t have the kids it’s a swim after work. At the weekends, every other week we are quite active so if the weather is decent we go mountain climbing or go on a decent all day hike.

However it’s been very difficult since being ill with covid, I need the rest in the mornings and lunch now, and the school holidays have meant I haven’t been able to find the time to swim at all if anything. I last went two weeks ago and the time before that was two weeks before. I wouldn’t be able to fit much in, if anything, during the week if I was I the office full time.

WishingWell5 · 19/08/2021 10:10

I usually breastfeed the baby at 4am and then go for a 20 minute run followed by a Les mills workout, or don't do the run and do a longer workout. Shower, make partners lunch and get dinner in slow cooker before kids up Aim for 5 days a week. I can't do it this week as I need the early starts for working, and I feel much worse without the exercise! I'm weird though and a natural early riser!!!

YellowMeeple · 19/08/2021 10:12

I am still WFH due to COVID but back in September, but my routine has been much the same for the last 10 years when I was working from an office and commuting into London. I work in a professional role where the first 4-5 years of work involve studying for the professional qualification around work. It’s seriously heavy going and requires lots of time and discipline to study. Anecdotally many of my colleagues take up hard core exercise once they qualify- I suspect they need a new challenge for their energies

countrytown · 19/08/2021 10:15

Home about 6. Either train (run/bike/pilates) as soon as I get back or get the children in bed and train later.

But where do you fit reading/homework/bath etc in?

On the weekend I often find we are out all day.

Sinthie · 19/08/2021 10:15

I find pole fitness and aerial hoop addictive. I do 3-4 hrs a week and it doesn’t feel like chore (also 2 kids and “part time” teacher - so 35-40hrs pw).

chalamet · 19/08/2021 10:16

6:30 - get up
7 - leave house
7:30-7:40 - get to work and prep
9-3:30 - teach
3:30-5:30/6 - mark etc
6:30/6:45 - get home

Then in the evening it’s finishing any other work I have to do or cooking/washing up/having a few hours to relax. I have various physical issues which make it harder for me to have energy. I don’t really exercise in the week but on the weekend will often go for walks or hikes etc.

chalamet · 19/08/2021 10:34

I should say in the evening I’m usually in quite a bit of pain due to chronic issues, which makes it a lot harder. I tend to absolutely blitz through work without a break (mark through break and lunch which is shortened due to covid) and then when I get home I crash and struggle through evening tasks feeling like I’m coming down with the flu. It’s fucking annoying. I’d love to feel able to do exercise in the evenings.

Lincslady53 · 19/08/2021 10:44

When working, I got an early bus getting off a few stops early, and walking the last 3 to 3 miles. The same on the way home. 5 miles is about 10,000 steps. My job was fairly sedentary, shop but up and down stairs 30 odd times a day. It kept my wait and blood pressure down.

JazzerMcCreary · 19/08/2021 11:02

DCs are 3 and 9mo so no homework. We read at bedtime. Bath isn’t every night for us but only takes about 15 minutes anyway. I wash DS’ long curly hair once or twice per week.

Egghead68 · 19/08/2021 11:04

I do zoom exercise classes in the evening and at weekends. I try to fit in a few long walks a week as well but often I am too busy.
