Just that really… what does your average weekday look like?! All I seem to do is work! What do you do after work? What exercise do you fit in and when?

Do people just not need sleep? DC wake me up at 6 each day, I'm shattered. 50/50 end up nodding off when putting the DC to bed at 7-8pm. Can stay up til 10pm sometimes but pay for it next day.

CheerfulBunny · 18/08/2021 18:38

WFH so 5 to 6pm is gym time 3 or 4 days a week, never weekends. Got equipment at home in a summerhouse so no excuses. I've done this for years and years though so feel slightly guilty if I'm not doing it when that time rolls around. I cannot do mornings personally, it makes me feel a bit sick and I don't like feeling all hot and bothered to start the day.

Thirtyrock39 · 18/08/2021 18:40

Oh I also try and do yoga with adriene quick videos in the morning - it's the only exercise I can manage first thing I hate running early in the day

insancerre · 18/08/2021 18:41

I walk to work as I don’t drive
I work in a nursery so spend a lot of my day on my feet
I don’t feel I need to do any exercise as I’m quite active all day

Thecathouse · 18/08/2021 18:41

Up at 5.45am, have a quiet cup of tea, at the leisure centre for 6.30am to either swim or go in the gym, home for 7.40am, dh leaves for work when I get in, I shower, breakfast, get ready for work and leave at 8.30am, do any school runs or child drop offs then in the office for 9.

I only go to the gym in the evening once a week (Friday) as i prefer to get it out the way at the beginning of the day - I don’t enjoy exercise, I do it as I need to lose weight. I go on a Friday evening as it’s relatively quiet and it stops me being able to open the wine!

I get home from work at 5.30pm and then make dinner, clean up etc etc, I know full well that if I sat down in the evening I wouldn’t bother going to the gym so that’s another reason I’d rather do it first thing because it’s over and done with and I can relax at night after work.

I'm up at 6, but the DC are not up until 7:30. I leave the house by 7 and DH handles getting everyone up, dressed, and to wherever they need to go before he sits down to work for 9.

Some nights I fall asleep at 8 when the DC go to bed, but most nights I make it to 10!

Needaholiday101 · 18/08/2021 18:49

Mon to Fri I do a 30 min walk at 6am, then 20 mins on the spinning bike and 5 mins weights. Either log on at home or leave for work at 7.45.

Do a 50 min swim on my day off in the week and again on Saturday. Then Sunday just a walk.

I have really bad plantar fasciitis so try not to do too much walking otherwise I would definitely do evenings as well.

Parttimemostofthetime · 18/08/2021 18:51

I run 5/6km at 5.30/6am 3 times a week and walk 5km 4 days a week, either at lunchtime or 8pm

icedcoffees · 18/08/2021 18:52

My exercise is my job (dog walker).

I walk on average 18-22k steps a day.

I need sleep. I wake up at 5/530, get exercise done before the kids wake at 6/630. Mine go to bed at 730 and I chill or have a stroll and I'm usually in bed at 9
Djchickpea · 18/08/2021 18:55

Les Mills (Pump, Sprint, Grit) for 30-45 mins 3-4 times a week, start at 7am. After class have breakfast/shower while my beetroot face calms down. Ready on zoom for 8.30. I have been much more regular with my exercise through lock down.

iloverock · 18/08/2021 18:57

I run twice a week with club. I go swimming in mornings maybe twice a week and I bike when I can.
Weekends I will do longer runs / rides.
But my kids aren't little and I work for myself so flexible.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 18/08/2021 18:57

My children are adults.

I get up at 5.30 and work out then, HIIT or weights for half an hour maximum. Leave the house for work at 7.20 ish - it's 1.3 miles to the station, uphill on my return journey. On my feet and up and down stairs a lot of the day at work. It's enough exercise for me!

Basilandparsleyandmint · 18/08/2021 18:58

Work 8:30 - 4, on the days I exercise , it consist of me putting slow cooker on so DH and DS have food for tea as my DS plays for two football teams and my Dd swims on alternate nights from this. I get home to general tidy up and pack up wash. I then get to swim around 6:30 - 7:30 but only twice a week. It’s chaos fitting in exercise for me as DH often wants to try and fit in squash or running. My DD is only 11 so she gets some time with a cross over of 30mins without a parent.

PhoboPhobia · 18/08/2021 19:01

I’m lucky to wfh and can be very flexible with times so I am able to put an hours gym slot on my calendar most week days. I don’t do much exercise at the weekend unless we have chosen to do something outdoors which isn’t that often!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/08/2021 19:02

Just after 5am - up.

Go to work, make a point of walking round site or at least moving every hour, 20 mins outside come rain or shine at lunchtime, home via the gym at around 4.15 - 5.40pm 2-3 times in the work week, then one session at the weekend and a plod around the rec Sunday morning.

When I change my job (soon), I'll see if the nearest pools have reconsidered their barely functioning online booking system which substitutes twee phrases for anything understandable and reinstated the old fashioned 'One Adult Swim, please' and a bleep of the debit card. If they have, then I'll possibly swap one gym session for a swim on my new day off.

If I feel the need during the week because I'm antsy or irritated, I'll do a slow loop round the block with DP around 9pm and if I'm in the mood for more, I can readjust my route to work to give me a 15minute trot at the beginning of the day.

There's always time somewhere - it's just a matter of finding even short bursts if you don't have three hours, as they all add up over the week.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 18/08/2021 19:03

At the moment, my day looks like:

6.30 Get up, get dressed etc, have coffee

8.00 Wake DS2 up, he gets dressed etc, has breakfast, does a page of homework

9.00 Take DS2 to summer school

9.20 Have breakfast in the Sainsbury's café, do shopping, back home

12.15 Make lunch for DD2

13.40 Pick DS2 up

Supervising DS2 who has ADHD

17.10 Make dinner

Supervising DS2 until bed at 9.15

Do washing, make packed lunch

DD2 sets her own bedtime, usually around 12 in the holidays, then I go to bed

Exercise is walking around Sainsbury's and to and from school. I average 10,000 steps.

Curiosity101 · 18/08/2021 19:05

Monday-Friday
Get up between 6-6.30am (toddler).
Set off for the childminder at 7.45am.
Back by 8.30am to start work (from home).
Work until 4.30.
Set off to the childminder to pick up the toddler.
Get home around 5.15-5.30pm.
Spend 2 hours sorting dinner, playing with the toddler and getting him ready for bed.
Then bedtime for him followed by 2 hours chilling and/or housework before going to bed around 9.30-10pm ready to do it all again. 🤣

Exercise Monday-Friday is the walk to and from the childminder's which is about 8000 steps in total each day.

Saturday and Sunday we're up from 6-6.30 same as during the week. We pretty much always make sure we go out somewhere in the morning, whether that's to see friends, family or walk etc. In the afternoon we often do a bit of housework, relax together etc. Then 2 hours after the toddler goes to bed to properly chill. We do need to get better at taking solo parenting breaks over the weekend to do our own thing but we've not quite factored that into the routine yet 🤷.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 18/08/2021 19:06

I should say that our Sainsbury's is 100,000 square feet and takes an hour to walk around a quarter of it, plus 80 minutes walking to and from school each day.

Qwertyyui · 18/08/2021 19:13

It varies. Sometimes in the gym by 6.30 before work for a quick class. Train in the gym after work tues/thurs then I dont work fri-sun so go all three days around 9.30 -11 whixh normally includes a class/run/weight training of a different body part. Starting Krav Maga next month which will be a monday and wednesday 7.30-9pm so gona try and fit that in without cutting gym sessions but will be unlikely so might have to drop to 4 sessions but we shall see. My child is 12 though so is fine alone for a small amount of time or is at her dads as we share custody. My DH helps out too as he trains around his schedule. I also walk the dog on my dinner (30 mins) then also at 5.30ish (1 hour) after work. She also goes out about 8pm for 20 minutes for fetch.

From the sounds of what I do I should be well fit however I love eating donuts/burgers/ice cream so look like I train but also like I like my food.

Niki14 · 18/08/2021 19:17

I work FT so I get up at 6 to go for a run or do an exercise video and shower before anyone else gets up at 7. I tried exercising in the evening but I'm just too tired after work, bedtimes and housework to exercise.

I do think the key thing about exercise is finding what works for you. I hate getting up early, and on the occasions when I've tried to exercise before work I just feel tired and hungry all day. Exercising after work is much better for me, and it's better in the later evening (say 8pm) as I've got all the family/children stuff out of the way, and once I've finished and had a shower I still have time to sit down and spend time with DH.

I'd rather get up early and be done early.
