What does your average day look like? When do you fit in exercise?!

Just that really… what does your average weekday look like?! All I seem to do is work! What do you do after work? What exercise do you fit in and when?

OP posts:
Gigia · 18/08/2021 21:47

Sorry should mention my ds is 19 though so no young kids.

TheNinny · 18/08/2021 21:50

Work full time.

Up 6.15ish, leave 7.45 and drop DD at nursery
at 8.20. Start work 8.30-5pm. Home by 6. DD
Eats 6.15 or so and so do we depending on if DH shifts. Sometimes I wait until 8.30 once DD asleep on nights DH works. DD bathed at 7/7.15 or so, upstairs for 8pm.
Read books/cuddle til 8.30 max when lights off. She’s up at 7 usually.

I Will workout by dragging exercise bike out usually around 9ish -10/10.30 hike watching tv. (I aim to burn 300 calories). Asleep 11 ideally but then Netflix on iPad heheh. Weekends I run if DH home and watches DD or we go walking/hiking as family. Or I run around soft play or park with DD on my own - As good a workout as any.

Routine differs a bit on days DD isn’t in nursery and with family, as I take shorter lunches to work 9-4.30 or 9-4.

Weekend: sleep as long as DD lets
Me. Long lie when DH is home (he gets his during week). Cleaning is blitzed too. I have a power hour and DH shares
equally cleaning so it gets covered.
I do a few bits n bobs during the week of necessary (always spraying the shower). Outing or activity with DD before lunch and nap.

MrsJBaptiste · 18/08/2021 21:50

The people who do 5 plus sessions a wk does your partner do the same?

DH probably does 2-3 a week but only tolerates the gym whereas I love it. He'll go walking or cycling instead but finds it hard to do many sessions as he works 12 hour shifts so is too knackered some days to do anything but eat dinner and go to bed.

lifehappened · 18/08/2021 21:51

Bunch of weirdos 🤣🤣🤣

drpaddington · 18/08/2021 21:51

I don't! I occasionally manage to go for a long walk on my day off (a week day so the kids are at school) but usually it's taken up with housework, grocery shopping etc.

Niki14 · 18/08/2021 21:51

@TiddleTaddleTat

Do people who wake a 5/6 have partners that do the same? How do you avoid waking others at that hour?
I just leave everyone asleep (including OH). I have the advantage of an ensuite so I put everything out in it at night then can change and use bathroom without waking the children. Our bedroom is at the top of the stairs so I can creep down, get a glass of water and head straight out without waking anyone up.
clary · 18/08/2021 21:53

I get up very early tho, I do know this. When DC were small they were awake and I haven't dropped the habit. 7am wake up is a massive oversleep for me. I just don't need much sleep (maybe it's age?)

So 6-6.30 get up makes it much easier to exercise and do chores before work. I am a much better runner at 6.30am than I am at 6.30pm.

Bluntness100 · 18/08/2021 21:54

No, he’s not into it, he plays golf on a sat. He could if he wished, but just not his thing. He makes occasional attempts but generally does one or two days of a run on the treadmill every few months and gives up.

We do have a large garden though and he does do a lot of physical work in that.

clary · 18/08/2021 21:55

Also meant to say I have no qualms about running in the dark. I have nothing to steal (not even a phone) and can run away from whoever is after me - let's face it, I am kitted out for speed (well, sort of!). If you won't run in the dark, I assume you won't walk in the dark either, which is a poor do if you want to meet a mate at the pub for an evening.

PinotPony · 18/08/2021 21:58
@PinotPony who looks after the kids whilst you do that? (Genuine question, not being goady - I need ideas!)
When they were younger, DP would have been in bed until 7am when I got back from gym. He's no longer living here but they're 16 and 12 so perfectly ok to leave on their own.

therocinante · 18/08/2021 22:00

Usually go to the gym at lunchtime if WFH a couple of times a week, then usually in the afternoons or early on weekends because it's quieter.

When I worked in the office full time, I had a lot less motivation to go - I was tired from long commutes!

There's been a spate of sexual assaults on women running and cycling round here at night. I don't - unfortunately - feel safe doing that at night. I imagine many other women feel the same.
Mindyourbusiness22 · 18/08/2021 22:02

Now I’m the curious one, what does everyone else do with their 24 hours that they don’t have 30 minutes to themselves to do exercise (if exercise is what you want to do)?

I’ve seen a few saying house admin, shopping, cleaning - what’s house admin? Do you food shop everyday? Clean everyday? I’m generally interested not having a dig or anything.

I do a weekly food shop on a Sunday.
Thursday is house clean day which my partner and I split, so takes about an hour between us to clean bathrooms, hoover, change bedding, dust…
I don’t do house admin, I don’t think, I don’t know what it is 🤣
And I never iron, life’s too short too iron!
We both work 7.5 hours a day, lunch is spent walking the dog, prep lunches night before.

I’m so nosey!

redferrari · 18/08/2021 22:03

I am now going for morning walks or YouTube workout if weather is bad (there are so many options for variety). But I miss going to a gym can afford it after being made redundant.

SisforSarah · 18/08/2021 22:07

Work 80% of ft, not from home. Have a personal trainer 2 evenings a week for an hour each, run with a friend once at the evening and get up at 5.30 to fit in a run or yoga the other 3 weekdays. Except for my PT days if it isn’t done by 9 am it doesn’t happen.

Bluntness100 · 18/08/2021 22:07

@Chunkymenrock

I do not exercise. I have no time to fit it in. No idea how people do.
Um the posts on the thread explain how they do 😂
Blessex · 18/08/2021 22:10

It’s a great question OP. Before lockdown I never managed it. One year post Covid and still WFH I got a personal trainer on zoom remote and scheduled 2 x 1 hour sessions per week into my meeting packed diary. I nip into a different room from my home study and do 1 hour of sweat and then back to zoom again. No time to shower before next meetings etc but at least I am finally exercising. Don’t know how I will manage when back in office :-(

SimonJT · 18/08/2021 22:10

I only work part time, so that makes a big difference.

5:45 go for a 5k run with the dog, I leave my son asleep, but my husband is home if he does wake up, it hasn’t happened yet though. When I get back I tend to then do a short weight session, maybe twenty minutes at most, so I’m ready for a shower etc by about 7am. Work starts at 8:45, so I get my son up and ready and walk him to school, luckily school is fairly close, so if I run home I get home in time and don’t need to use breakfast club, if I’m running late my husband will take him and drop him off at breakfast club on his way to work.

Work finishes at 3:30 (I’m allowed to tag my lunch on to the end of the day) and I collect my son around 4, we usually head to the park on the way home so we get home around 5. I start making dinner so its ready for when my husband gets home about 5:30.

Then I do whatever really, some nights I have rugby training, sometimes I spend time on the piano, or taking my son to dance. Generally my son is in bed for 7:15, so I get quite a bit of childfree time each evening.

On a saturday I have rugby training first thing, then I run my rugby tots sessions, if its rugby season I have a match rather than morning training. Apart from that Saturdays aren’t generally planned.

Sunday my son has swimming, while he has his lesson I go to the gym for about 40 minutes, unless it is a badge session then I stay and watch.

Jumpingintosummer · 18/08/2021 22:11

I do 3 classes followed by gym sessions when DD is in activities after school, one gym session and one class on a Saturday morning whilst DH and DD go for breakfast and her dance class (I meet them there afterwards).
We are all home for 12noon on a Saturday to enjoy our weekend together.

Passthecake30 · 18/08/2021 22:13

I’m wfh so I walk for 20-30 mins after the kids have gone to school, before I log in. I do a cardio session via a Facebook group 3 times a week and a strength session once a week. I go to Pilates one evening. I also try and get my 10,000 steps in, which means walking from the kitchen, upstairs to the bedrooms every now and then for a screen break too.
I’m planning on getting out more to actual group classes as now I’m pretty much permanently wfh I’d like to see actual people every now and then…

My Dp doesn’t exercise but he has an active job.

Blessex · 18/08/2021 22:13

@Mindyourbusiness22 I think a lot of people work more than 7.5 hours a day to answer your question. My work starts at 8 and ends at 7. Squeezing in exercise on top of the family can be tricky.

Gigia · 18/08/2021 22:16

I'm the only one that gets up that early and I go out quietly. My husband goes to the gym 1-2 times a week but isn't fussed about it really.

Suffolkpunch345 · 18/08/2021 22:17

Today I left for work at 7am and retired and 20.45. I had a glass of wine, watched love island and now I’m here. That’s my life since Monday Rinse repeat tomorrow and on Friday I’ll be working 9-5 ( hopefully)

Blessex · 18/08/2021 22:20

@Suffolkpunch345 that was my hours pre lockdown. Leave house 7am. Return 8pm. Exhausted. Wine. Bed.
