Hot tub awkwardness

Am I being unreasonable or is this awkward and weird?

My friend invited me round for drinks, I accepted the invite, we haven’t met up for ages and though it would be lovely to have a catch up.

After I agreed she said oh great, I’ve invited “other friend” who I haven’t met before. All fine, will be nice to meet one of her other friend and have a girly night.

Then she dropped the bomb “I’ll set up the hot tub”. NOOOOOOOOO! Why? Seriously, Why?

Then today I get a text saying “other friend” has invited her other friend and now it just want to go into hiding.

I have to admit I’m not a fan of shared hot tubs at the best of times and I feel completely f*ing awkward meeting new people in semi nude state.

UABU - this is fine and completely normal, you are over reacting

UANBU - run! Go into hiding untill the whole awkward affair is over

For goodness sake some of these responses. 😂

Op, unless somethings missing, then she’s not going to wrestle you in there, you’re a grown up, if you don’t want to get in jist sit at the side. No need for drama.

I'd say "Oh that's good my psoriasis is almost unoticable now although I'm currently riddled with verrucas, I think I'll find the hot water very soothing, once I've applied a thick coating of Germolene. 🤞

Yuck. You could direct her to Mumsnet, so she could be aware of how most people feel about hot tubs! Seriously though, can’t you tell her you don’t enjoy them?

Positivelyrandom · 18/08/2021 07:13

OP, just say these words, ‘I have to admit I’m not a fan of shared hot tubs at the best of times and I feel completely f*ing awkward meeting new people in semi nude state.’

Positivelyrandom · 18/08/2021 07:14

Minus the f*ing.

Revolting, getting to know people by chatting while sitting at close quarters in a Chlamydia soup. Wild horses wouldn’t drag me into that chemical cesspool.

I don't get the whole 'l won't get inq hot tub with people l don't know' - do you guys not use public swimming pools?

I wouldn't get in it because l can't see the fucking point of them and why is everyone suddenly buying the bloody things and inviting other people around to sit in them. Is it one up person ship?

Seeleyboo · 18/08/2021 07:52

Ask yourself. Would you share a bath with these people. If the answer is no then a hot tub bath is a no too. Blagh

😂 😂 😂

As if this crowd of drama queens are representative.

Good one.

Public swimming pools are tested for the bacteria and have the correct chemical balance in to ensure it's safe for everyone to swim. This lady may not do that so could just be like dirty bath water for all you know....

We had one in our holiday let. Nice for our use when UK weather not realising it’s summer but I wouldn’t want to be in it with people I’d just met.

I know someone who worked as a manager at a Leisure Centre. You have no idea what happens in public swimming pools and the frequency (or lack of) in which they're 'cleaned'.
