Hot tub awkwardness

Am I being unreasonable or is this awkward and weird?

My friend invited me round for drinks, I accepted the invite, we haven’t met up for ages and though it would be lovely to have a catch up.

After I agreed she said oh great, I’ve invited “other friend” who I haven’t met before. All fine, will be nice to meet one of her other friend and have a girly night.

Then she dropped the bomb “I’ll set up the hot tub”. NOOOOOOOOO! Why? Seriously, Why?

Then today I get a text saying “other friend” has invited her other friend and now it just want to go into hiding.

I have to admit I’m not a fan of shared hot tubs at the best of times and I feel completely f*ing awkward meeting new people in semi nude state.

UANBU - run! Go into hiding untill the whole awkward affair is over

hot tubs just creep me out. I just don't get why anyone would want to sit in a fetid warm water soup with other people

If its just the being seen in your swimwear try and remember it's only the getting in and out part you'll be exposed. Give a shout of 'ooo look an owl/fox/local flasher' and dive in when they're distracted. If you're like me you'll be too pissed when you get out to care about anything other than getting out without suctioning onto the edge with your labia.

If it’s just anxiety over wearing swim wear in front of them, can’t you wear a beach cover up or something? Like those floaty shirt things that come down to your knees worn over a bikini?

Massive plaster on foot after stepping on broken glass in kitchen or something. Must not get it wet/risk infection it's pretty bad. So sorry I can't get in tub.

I just find this really funny. It's like 'Oh, come over, Geraldine, I've got a couple of lovely friends to introduce you to, I'm sure you'll all get along like a house on fire - so you can all have a drunk bath together, right?'

It's just far to intimate for meeting people for the first time. What if they smell or something?

I really think that in your position I'd be saying 'I'd love to meet your friends, but I don't fancy the hot tub with people I've never met.' If she doesn't get it, she's hardly a friend; it's a totally reasonable thing to say. There's absolutely no reason you should be expected to sit in a pan with a bunch of strangers.

I love my hot tub because I know it’s clean. I would not get in someone else's, nor would I get in with strangers.

I hate eating in front of strangers too.

My best friend has a very posh hot tub but I told her from the get go that I hate hot tubs, I find them gross and will not be going in it! It's now a running joke and 4 years later they still tease me about my abject horror at just the thought 🤣

Honestly a clean hot tub maintained properly is fine . I love a hot tub . However I am not comfortable sharing one with people I don’t know.

Last time I was in that situation I just was honest and sat by the side . Said I was not happy being in my swimsuit in front of strangers .

I have a hot tub and it's kept extremely clean! You know filters, chemicals etc and cleaning regularly! It's mainly used for my chronic pain NOT a sex pond! I really don't understand this horror of them. Anyway, sorry OP, yes I would feel awkward too. People I know well like really good friends is ok but not strangers. Just say you feel awkward as you don't know them.

Ew! It's like having a bath with other adults! And whoever mentioned swimming pools....I feel the same about those and never go in public ones.

If you’re in a swimming pool, you’re swimming. Then you rinse off in the showers as soon as you’re out of the water. In a hot tub you just sit there marinating in warmed over dead skin and faecal bacteria.

Just tell her you wouldn't have accepted the invitation if you had known there was a hot tub involved and ask to rearrange for another day.

I’m pretty confident and there’s no way I’d do it. So awkward. No way. Message in the morning to say “sorry didn’t know how to say this but I won’t get in the hot tub. I’ve got a verruca and I’m not allowed to get it wet” OR “sorry got my period last night and it’s really heavy so I won’t get in the hot tub today. I’ll serve the drinks!”
