Hot tub awkwardness

Am I being unreasonable or is this awkward and weird?

My friend invited me round for drinks, I accepted the invite, we haven’t met up for ages and though it would be lovely to have a catch up.

After I agreed she said oh great, I’ve invited “other friend” who I haven’t met before. All fine, will be nice to meet one of her other friend and have a girly night.

Then she dropped the bomb “I’ll set up the hot tub”. NOOOOOOOOO! Why? Seriously, Why?

Then today I get a text saying “other friend” has invited her other friend and now it just want to go into hiding.

I have to admit I’m not a fan of shared hot tubs at the best of times and I feel completely f*ing awkward meeting new people in semi nude state.

UABU - this is fine and completely normal, you are over reacting

UANBU - run! Go into hiding untill the whole awkward affair is over

It’s not the hygiene aspect of the hot tub that’s bothering me tbh. I don’t mind that side of things

It’s more the close proximity while being in my swimsuit with people I don’t know. I’ll feel a bit exposed and self conscious.

It’s not a large hot tun either. I’ve seen the pics and it looks very erm cosey for 4 people

I love a hot tub and this wouldn't bother me, but I have friends who hate them or don't want to be in swimwear with others, especially people they don't know and that's fine. Each to their own.

Op, either sit at the side, don't go, or pop a t shirt over your swimsuit.

I think yabu. It sounds fun and I'm sure they won't be preoccupied with looking at you or what you're wearing. This wouldn't bother me.

I wild swim. No chlorine, almost no people.

I like hot tubs but wouldn't like this either - definitely wouldn't want to meet new people wearing my swimsuit. I wouldn't go - if you can't be honest with your friend then go with the period excuse.

And the cleaning chemicals required will take this into consideration.

If its just the being seen in your swimwear try and remember it's only the getting in and out part you'll be exposed. Give a shout of 'ooo look an owl/fox/local flasher' and dive in when they're distracted. If you're like me you'll be too pissed when you get out to care about anything other than getting out without suctioning onto the edge with your labia.

I watched a video on TikTok of a guy who cleans pools and hot tubs for a living. After seeing all the grime that came out of a hot tub he cleaned it’s defo put me off them for life. This is a hot tub that you don’t know who has been in either or how often filters etc are cleaned.

Yeah, the hot tub is definitely the thing I’m uneasy about.

I also don’t mind being in my swimsuit tbh. I go swimming all the time. Loads of people
I’ve never met at the pool.

I’m all about body positivity. I doubt anyone will even care what I look like or what I’m wearing but I just feel that it is a very awkward, intimate setting with strangers.

Think I’m going to go and see how I feel. If it’s awkward and cringy I’ll sit by the side of the hot tub.

Eww no. Hot tubs are tiny and you'd be all squished up with strangers wearing practically nothing. I'd get in one with my husband, kids, mum or best friend. Nobody else.

Also should add I’m not anti hot tub. If it was my husband and I it would be lovely. Just not my cup of tea sitting in one with people I’m not familiar with.

That's your get out. Just say "it's all a bit soon to get quite so up close and personal and/or I'd rather not meet new people half naked".

Its fine to sit and chat by the tub, they will be grateful for someone to top up their drinks, fetch towels etc anyway. Always handy x

My friend has a hot tub and I love girls’ nights at her place! But if you don’t fancy it, just “forget” your costume, or decline getting in as it’s “that time of the month”.
