Came up on 7yo DC overnight and is getting bigger by the hour.

Possible insect bite? Go to a local chemist. They might say go to a walk in.

We don't have a walk in and the GP surgery won't see him.

Can you email that photo to the surgery with some info? Or a phone call where you say you can send a photo. I definitely agree it needs a professional opinion. Other option would be a pharmacist.

icedcoffees · 17/08/2021 13:34

Go to the pharmacy.

Ivy48 · 17/08/2021 13:34

Go to any pharmacy, Tesco etc they’ll look and advise where the can. I would draw around it to see if it’s tracking etc

blueballetshoes · 17/08/2021 13:34

Do you have private health cover? Sometimes they include access to a video GP.

Chemist if no luck...A&E if the other options aren't available? It looks like an insect bite.

intothewoodss · 17/08/2021 13:34

Our GP is refusing to see him. I'm onto 111 but have been on hold for nearly an hour. Our nearest A&E is 45 mins away and I don't know what to do.

Draw round and take to a and e if increases the red zone. If no walk in then your a a d e may do minor injuries

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/08/2021 13:35
  1. Check your surgery website for an econsult option (allows you to upload pics)
  2. Take DC to the nearest pharmacy for a check over
  3. If no response from GP by the end of the day, call them just before closing to ask advice.
  4. If all else fails/grows at exponential rate/pain increases, present at a&e
Embracelife · 17/08/2021 13:36

Antihistamines might help
But could be infection so go to a and e for antibiotics

blueballetshoes · 17/08/2021 13:37

Could you be a little more forceful with the GP mine tend to be a little more sympathetic when it is children involved. Otherwise private GP and pay the fee if all else fails? I hope your child is ok and get sorted quickly.

theThreeofWeevils · 17/08/2021 13:37

And give antihistamines in the interim.

LIZS · 17/08/2021 13:39

Local pharmacy for advice?

HalloHello · 17/08/2021 13:39

Everyone is saying go to pharmacy, I have to echo that. They're really good for these kind of things.

Wafflethefuckinwonderdog · 17/08/2021 13:39

Possibly a horse fly bite. They're not nice.

FleasInMyKnees · 17/08/2021 13:40

If it's getting bigger and the redness is tracking along his arm he needs more than a pharmacist, I would go to the hospital if the gp wont see you. You can ring and ask to speak to the practice manager and show them a photo. By the time you have held on to 111 you could be at the hospital.

GoldenBlue · 17/08/2021 13:40

Definitely pharmacy but expect to be speaking to the GP afterwards about antibiotics. There is infection and it is tracking along the arm. Not time to panic but it does need to be seen.

RatherBeRiding · 17/08/2021 13:41

Is it itchy? My first thought on seeing that was horse-fly (I'm a martyr to them!). It takes at least 48 hours of strong anti-histamines (not the kind you buy off the shelf but the kind the pharmacist has to give you although they are not prescription) before the itching and swelling/redness starts to subside.

I would ask a pharmacist. It really does look like a bite of some kind.

Notglam · 17/08/2021 13:42

It’s infected and needs antibiotics. It will continue to get worse if not treated.
Go to A&E if no walk in available.

choosername1234 · 17/08/2021 13:46

It looks like it is "tracking" (the red line coming out of the area). This could be a sign of spreading infection.

ODPO · 17/08/2021 13:50

Grab a marker and draw the outline of where it is currently red and make a note of the time.

My Ds had something similar and ended up in hospital overnight with cellulitis

Definitely need to see someone though op

Tinkerbellfluffyboots79 · 17/08/2021 13:52

I’m a paeds nurse and there does look like there is some tracking. I’d have him seen by a dr today op. Get a sharpie and mark the end of the red track down his arm and note the time on your phone you can then see how much further it goes by the time you’re seen. Could require iv antibiotics but def would get that looked at. Why won’t your gp see that?……outrageous sending a child to sit in a&e for hours when a gp could send them direct to paeds for review and management once they’ve seen them.

Thisyearcandoone · 17/08/2021 13:54

I have sympathies for you, OP. My GP surgery still not doing face to face appointments. So frustrating when children are involved and hospitals under so much pressure. Hope it's sorted soon, keep us updated.

intothewoodss · 17/08/2021 13:55

He's autistic. I have a 3yo. I don't know what to do.

OP posts:
SeaToSki · 17/08/2021 13:57

That needs to see a doctor of some sort today. Echoing other PPs. Draw a ring around it with a pen, write time on arm. Also put a mark at the end of the streak. If it grows beyond the marks you will have to go to A and E.
