Came up on 7yo DC overnight and is getting bigger by the hour.

That line coming out to the side is it ‘tracking’, which means it needs to be seen I’m afraid.
I’d get some bits together and hope you get through to 111, but be prepared to go to a&e I’m afraid.

ashmts · 17/08/2021 13:58

@intothewoodss Go to a pharmacy? Like everyone else has said, and you've repeatedly ignored? It likely does need a doctor but you can't get one (which is shocking), but a pharmacy referral will mean you'll probably be taken more seriously by the surgery.

AramintaLee · 17/08/2021 14:00

I echo what @ashmts has said. You've been offered a lot of consistent advice. Draw a circle around the redness using a marker so you can track if it's spreading and try and get hold of a pharmacy (have you got a local Boots?)

I am trying the gp again. Then I'm going.

Our pharmacy , luckily next door to the GP surgery, has an excellent relationship with the GP, apart from being very knowledgeable about most everyday medical needs they are brilliant at getting you through the door if they think you need a GPs input. I would take an experienced pharmacists advice over a GP receptionist’s or even a new GP’s any day.

DonttouchthatLarry · 17/08/2021 14:23

My husband had a very bad reaction to a horse fly bite - the pharmacist gave him antibiotics, didn't even need to go to GP.

TableFlowerss · 17/08/2021 14:29

Why on earth is there not an option to email a photo? It’s ridiculous.

intothewoodss · 17/08/2021 14:33

We have an appointment at local walk in in three hours. Pharmacist thinks he has scratched it, and it's not tracking. But thinks still prudent to get it checked.

I have to play a careful game here. Hours at A&E with an autistic child with learning disability, who will be petrified on journey there and throughout all the waiting etc.

Or walk in much closer to home in 3 hours time.

Have marked with pen as everyone is suggesting.

Didnt your opening post say you didnt have a walk in?

rbe78 · 17/08/2021 14:35

Horsefly bites look like that on me. Pharmacist sounds like a good first port of call.

icedcoffees · 17/08/2021 14:36

Your opening post said you didn't have a walk-in Confused

I don't. I am taking him to one in the next town and DH is currently travelling back from Hertfordshire so he can have our other DC.

Definitely mark around it and the limit of the tracking line so the dr can see progress at a glance

Done that. Driving him twenty minutes to next town and being able to park at the door of local place will be a world away from driving twice as far to hospital, faffing with the awful hospital parking system, waiting, prodding etc.

Stop trying to catch her out or something? Hope it gets sorted OP

HalloHello · 17/08/2021 14:44

I know it's difficult OP but I really think you need to try and relax a bit.

No one is trying to! But had she not have said that, then no doubt most of the responses would be "take them to the walk in now".
NautaOcts · 17/08/2021 14:45

It’s encouraging the pharmacy has said they don’t think it’s tracking. So don’t panic. I would wait for appointment in 3 hrs time, it’s good you’ve marked with a pen.

intothewoodss · 17/08/2021 14:45

You can't 'take them to the walk in now' here. You need an appointment through 111.

I am slowly calming down but stressed about managing both kids while at appointment. No family nearby. DC struggles with leaving the house. His sister is of an age where she frequently tantrums. He reacts badly to those.

Urgh. In a years time it might be different.

Feel awful about DH having to leave work but what choice do I have right now?

OP posts:
nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 17/08/2021 14:52

That's tracking, you're right for taking him in. Tracking can indicate blood poisoning, it can be serious if left and needs immediate antibiotics.

Is it just the light or is there a black inner ring round where the actual puncture is? If its not the light, take the 3 year old with you and go now.

GreenTortoise · 17/08/2021 14:52

You know if a walk in is busy and it will overwhelm your child. Just let reception know that he is autistic and could you wait in the car and they either phone you or poo their head out the door when it's your turn. They're usually pretty accommodating and I hope it gets better soon!

littlefireseverywhere · 17/08/2021 14:53

Go to the pharmacy.

3luckystars · 17/08/2021 14:55

Good luck, you are doing the right thing x

Duckyneedsaclean · 17/08/2021 14:55

It is tracking (the red line going up the arm) and definitely needs antibiotics. Call GP again and say it's tracking and visibly growing.
