Pop* I meant pop not poo

IncessantNameChanger · 17/08/2021 14:56

Life would be so much simpler if the gp would just see you. I do wonder if seeing gps is a thing of the past now?

itsgettingwierd · 17/08/2021 14:58

@intothewoodss

You can't 'take them to the walk in now' here. You need an appointment through 111.
I was about to say that "walk in" doesn't always mean off the street!

It's the semantics!

Around here they've been rebalanced hub clinics or OOH clinics are referral by GP or 111 only.

You actually cannot walk in to the walk ins anymore!

blueballetshoes · 17/08/2021 15:01

Glad you've made some progress op in the meantime could you get a few bits together that would help keep your child calm?...favourite book, or Ipa d witg favourite shows on? Maybe a bottle of water and a snack i case your waiting for a while.

I hope it all goes ok.

blueballetshoes · 17/08/2021 15:02

Ah sorry for the errors hopefully it made sense.

SirVixofVixHall · 17/08/2021 15:05

I think that needs antibiotics. It looks like a horsefly bite, they can be nasty.
Hope it gets dealt with swifty OP and your boy is ok.

sarahc336 · 17/08/2021 15:05

First thing is to draw a line round the redness to make sure it's not spreading, if it is I'd be more inclined to go to a&e. It's probably not but it looks like a spider/insect bite and they can be nasty x

He's stuffing crisps and mithering me for his play doh, which I am absolutely not in the mood to get out!

Does he seem to be in pain? Any temp or vomiting?
I had an infection following an insect bite and needed 12 days iv antibiotics but I was really ropey and in pain- couldn’t keep food down.

If you can get ice on it to take the heat out and give him calpol and a dose of antihistamine he might feel more comfortable whilst waiting to be seen.

It takes two adults to get meds into him

He's probably mithering because you're mithering. Try and relax a little bit.

I'm mithering on Mumsnet, not in RL.

I'm mum to an autistic kid, I'm pretty used to dealing with stressful situations...

I'm definitely changing GP surgery after this is all over.

@Quirrelsotherface

Your opening post said you didn't have a walk-in

Stop trying to catch her out or something? Hope it gets sorted OP

I'm not.

I was confused as to why she couldn't go to a walk-in an hour ago as there wasn't one, but can somehow manage to get to one now.

notsogreenthumb · 17/08/2021 15:23

Looks like an insect bite. I had similar and it continued to get bigger and bigger, gp gave antibiotics. It went after a course of them.

LunaLula83 · 17/08/2021 15:25

You need to rub lemon juice on it, toothpaste and then wait 4 weeks. I should disclose that im not a dr. Im avaliable 24/7 Wink

That won’t work Luna, you forgot to say you have to walk widdershins three times round a sleeping chicken first.

Also not a doctor. Available by appointment only.

shenanigans5 · 17/08/2021 15:30

Ah good your partner is on his way then Smile best of luck- hope he’s better soon CakeBrew

itsgettingwierd · 17/08/2021 15:32

As an aside it's nice to see a thread where the partner/other parent steps up when needed to support the parent in the difficult situation.

shenanigans5 · 17/08/2021 15:32

There are plenty of qualified health care professionals on MN though (I’m one of them) and some of the advice is pretty decent. Obviously no substitute for a face to face review but I’ve not seen much daft advice on this thread.

OakPine · 17/08/2021 15:34

Antibiotics and anti-histamines will sort that out.

GP should be absolutely ashamed at not seeing your child! I'd phone them back to complain later once you get it sorted out.

Best wishes x

Wam90 · 17/08/2021 15:36

I agree that it looks like it’s tracking and would need to be seen by someone who can prescribe antibiotics. I hope 111 can get you in somewhere.

Good luck at the walk in OP. I have an ASD kid who wouldn't cope with A&E either so totally get you. Sending strength...

1forAll74 · 17/08/2021 15:51

It looks like an insect bite, I would bathe it in warm water to start with, and then go to a local pharmacist, bites tend to be like this, and spread for a while afterwards. I have had a lot of insect bites, as am always doing gardening. My usual thing to do,is clean the area, and just put germolene on the area, a bit old fashioned. as never go to the GP'S., But maybe would if it was a snake bite.
