Came up on 7yo DC overnight and is getting bigger by the hour.

Sorry your husband isn’t more supportive - I had one of those: wasn’t allowed to forget if I’d been incompetent enough to cause him any inconvenience.

My son was autistic too. Good luck - your bloody GP is useless.

Hugs

@intothewoodss

As an aside, does your youngest not have any nursery friends parents you could have left her with for an hour or so?

Are you new to the area? It sounds like you need to make some local friends etc.

Hope DS is ok at the WI and that the treatment is something that isn't too difficult for you to administer!

TheGenealogist · 17/08/2021 15:59

I had very similar on holiday in the south of England, tried the local GP who wouldn't see me, sent me to the local walk-in which wasn't a walk in and you were supposed to be referred but as they were so quiet they saw me anyway.

Ice pack helped, and lots of Piriton. In hindsight, I could have treated it myself.

But I'm a healthy adult and not an autistic toddler. You're doing the right thing getting it looked at.

AlmostSummer21 · 17/08/2021 15:59

@1forAll74

It looks like an insect bite, I would bathe it in warm water to start with, and then go to a local pharmacist, bites tend to be like this, and spread for a while afterwards. I have had a lot of insect bites, as am always doing gardening. My usual thing to do,is clean the area, and just put germolene on the area, a bit old fashioned. as never go to the GP'S., But maybe would if it was a snake bite.
You don't have a black market contact for giid old proper stuff not this new namby pamby cream do you? Prepared to pay good money!!

😊

It's very hard to make friends when you have a disabled child.

Into the woods sorry about that Sad my ds is autistic (but verbal) and I'm a LP. I've always said the saving Grace was only having ds because juggling another with alone would have been a nightmare and both children would have suffered.

Oldtiredfedup · 17/08/2021 16:24

Yes it is very difficult, OP, to make friends. People aren’t very understanding. I’m sorry.

Well I wouldn't say, on balance, that my children suffer. They're pretty happy kids. It's just when there is a situation like this that things become complex, especially if you have a non-driving DH who works far away.

Arm update, swelling hasn't progressed, line isn't longer.

Am v glad we didn't do the mad A&E dash because right now DS is playing outside on his swing instead of melting down in a covid soup waiting room.

itsgettingwierd · 17/08/2021 16:41

Sorry - I didn't mean to imply your children suffer. I just meant as I didn't have someone (however begrudging they assisted) I thought it was convenient I'd only ended up with 1. (I wanted 6!!!!!)

I'm just sorry that your dh will hold it against you because it's clearly in all interests he steps up.

Hope the appointment goes ok.

AuntieGlitterball · 17/08/2021 17:01

Could be a false widow spider bite. I had one earlier this year which looked similar. I did go to A&E, it flummoxed them at the time. I later worked it out as I had been spring cleaning attic rooms and I caught one when hanging up the new curtains. Hospital gave me topical antibiotic cream. I still have a faint scar 4 months later.

StarCat2020 · 17/08/2021 17:38

I hope you get it sorted for your little lad.

It is utterly disgusting how hard it is to get simple medical help at the moment.

Confused102 · 17/08/2021 17:47

Hope your boy is feeling ok op. You are doing your best, I can't imagine how tough it is with your other ds it is. Hopefully it will be sorted soon. X

Newhorizon21 · 17/08/2021 18:47

@intothewoodss I'm glad you have an appointment, for future reference A&E are great for prioritising children (& adults) with learning difficulties, particularly if the person is distressed/agitated.

intothewoodss · 17/08/2021 19:52

We are back. He has strong antibiotics. He's happily tucking into some cereal now.

Well done for persevering and sorting logistics OP. Glad to hear he's non the worse for his unexpected change of plans. FB has been full of pictures of people with horse fly bites.

I would right to the practice manager and outline what happened - it is absolutely ridiculous that a doctor would not look at your disabled child who has a nasty infection. Scandalous.
(as an aside - I was in similar situation a few years ago with a very painful swelling on my abdomen. Doctor refused to see me, said there was no point it wasn't infected, would only prescribe painkillers. I ended up being taken to hospital that evening and spending 10 days in hospital on IV antibiotics. It is shit when you have to fight for treatment when your instinct is telling you there is something wrong that needs looking at).
Hope your boy feels better soon. (I find taking pro biotic yogurts helps with the upset tummy ABs can cause - if he likes yogurt that is.)

AmyDudley · 17/08/2021 20:05

I mean 'write'. doh.

We are complaining, and definitely changing practice.
