To never wear shoes again?

Yes, I'm being dramatic! But I'm f#cking fed up of EVERY new pair of shoes ending up in blisters that take a week to heal.

I've tried really expensive shoes, tried breaking them in at home in socks, tried bigger sizes, smaller sizes...

I feel at the inside of shoes to see if there's anything to rub.

I've tried sandals, loafers, trainers, toe posts, "Court shoe" types. They ALL find a bit of my foot to hurt.

Currently sporting a cut on my left foot and a blister on my right heel from shoes that seemed as soft as butter.

I'm praying my old sandals last til winter til I can get out my old boots! And then start the process with new boots... by spring they'll be comfortable.

So, am I being unreasonable to be entirely barefoot for the foreseeable?

I’m a convert to Tom’s. Most amazingly comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 16/08/2021 14:27

Adidas pool sliders... incredibly comfy but not so good in winter 😉 I live and die in them at the moment.

m.jdsports.co.uk/product/adidas-adilette-aqua-slides-womens/15985367/ wanted to tag a link to the ones I wear myself.

Flip flops! Or Birkenstock if I'm going out somewhere. Wellies for wet dog walks.

LittleLottieChaos · 16/08/2021 14:40

Vans slip ons… so comfy.

SquirrelCrimbleCrumble · 16/08/2021 14:40

Get yourself some Skechers Go Walk

Pure memory foam heaven! I wear them all day every day

youdoyoutoday · 16/08/2021 14:44

Second sketchers go walk! Love them

This is a 'throwing money at a problem' solution that I know isn't feasible for everybody, but have you ever bought M2M shoes?

I have really awkward feet (size 8/9, very narrow heels, high arches, broad toe bed but otherwise very slender feet) and bought a pair of M2M shoes a couple of years ago for about £150 that CHANGED MY LIFE. It's like wearing clouds.

Obviously not practical for everything (that's what trainers are for), but they are my 'good' shoes and I expect them to outlive me.

Worth looking into, if you can afford it?

Elouera · 16/08/2021 14:55

Do you have a specific foot issue (side, flat, narrow etc?) and have you ever seen a podiatrist? Have you considered personally made shoes from a cobbler?

EBearhug · 16/08/2021 14:56

Have you tried bespoke, handmade shoes? Not that it's a cheap option, but they should fit perfectly.

iglpgl · 16/08/2021 14:59

Have you tried barefoot/minimalist shoes? I don't wear anything else these days. "Normal" shoes are horrible for the feet - even the flat ones squeeze toes into unnatural positions.

NigellaSeed · 16/08/2021 15:01

Put plasters on where you feel the rubbing but before a blister comes. Problem solved

BikeRunSki · 16/08/2021 15:02

Soak your feet in surgical spirit to harden the skin!

It won’t go “hard”, but it will become more resilient to rubbing. It’s what ballet dancers and climbers do, to spend hours in tight fitting shoes.

shumway · 16/08/2021 15:15

My feet hurt in normal shoes so I have embraced granny shoes. Skechers go walk or fitflop trainers.

PattyPan · 16/08/2021 15:15

I second barefoot shoes, they are wider than other shoes so shouldn’t pinch and they are designed for the actual shape of the foot rather than whatever shape the designer thought would look good. That doesn’t preclude them from rubbing the heel but none of mine have.
Do not wear flipflops all the time unless you can help it - they are terrible for your feet.

Fumnudge · 16/08/2021 15:20

I second the Skechers, i have their sandals too, but i do still need to wear them in a bit at the heel, bend the top of it back

Tana433 · 16/08/2021 15:21

Paver's Fly Flots. Honestly life changing.

luckylavender · 16/08/2021 15:25

I empathise. But quite a few on here that I couldn't wear. Vans are really uncomfortable as are all trainers and flip flops too near the pavement. I love Birkenstock's but they take a while to wear in.

SallyDontTouchThatPie · 16/08/2021 15:27

Skechers, they are like walking in slippers. I have their trainers, GoWalks and sandals. Just lovely.

Ponoka7 · 16/08/2021 15:27

Sketchers do a range of winter boots, all comfy as soon as you wear them, but size down.
My issue is finding evening flat shoes.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/08/2021 15:29

I just spent the weekend in neoprene watersports shoes (with rubber soles). They were so comfy. I was doing watersports admittedly. Not sure what they would be like shopping for example...

surreymum89 · 16/08/2021 15:33

Are you definitely buying the right size ?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/08/2021 15:34

I third barefoot shoes...

SunShinesBrightly · 16/08/2021 15:36

If I buy new shoes I put Compeed plasters on the minute I feel a pinch or the shoes rubbing.
They are quite expensive but there are many brands including Boots own/generic brands.
Search for Hydrocolloid plasters.
They are amazing for existing blisters.

I feel like I should have shares in them!
