To never wear shoes again?

MeredithGreyishblue · 16/08/2021 13:51

Yes, I'm being dramatic! But I'm f#cking fed up of EVERY new pair of shoes ending up in blisters that take a week to heal.

I've tried really expensive shoes, tried breaking them in at home in socks, tried bigger sizes, smaller sizes...

I feel at the inside of shoes to see if there's anything to rub.

I've tried sandals, loafers, trainers, toe posts, "Court shoe" types. They ALL find a bit of my foot to hurt.

Currently sporting a cut on my left foot and a blister on my right heel from shoes that seemed as soft as butter.

I'm praying my old sandals last til winter til I can get out my old boots! And then start the process with new boots... by spring they'll be comfortable.

So, am I being unreasonable to be entirely barefoot for the foreseeable?

I can't wear sketchers either. Every pair rubs on the heel.

I struggle with all shoes too. Even my crocs started rubbing me and caused a huge blood blister on my heel.

I generally wear 1 pair of white cheap sandals that don't hurt for some reason and then boots in the winter. I've worn my winter boots a few times this month and even they have started hurting on the ball of my foot 😞

@LadyJaye

This is a 'throwing money at a problem' solution that I know isn't feasible for everybody, but have you ever bought M2M shoes?

I have really awkward feet (size 8/9, very narrow heels, high arches, broad toe bed but otherwise very slender feet) and bought a pair of M2M shoes a couple of years ago for about £150 that CHANGED MY LIFE. It's like wearing clouds.

Obviously not practical for everything (that's what trainers are for), but they are my 'good' shoes and I expect them to outlive me.

Worth looking into, if you can afford it?

What's a toe bed?
JumpLeadsForTwo · 16/08/2021 17:18

Barefoot shoes here too. Vivobarefoot are pricey, but they wear brilliantly- great for wide feet, and no rubbing as there is plenty of room

JumpLeadsForTwo · 16/08/2021 17:19

Toe bed is the front part of the shoe - most "normal" shoes are quite narrow and squash the toes which cause pain, bunions and alter your balance

@SquirrelCrimbleCrumble

Get yourself some Skechers Go Walk

Pure memory foam heaven! I wear them all day every day

Yeah Sketchers are the most comfortable shoes ever, I have a black pair that I wear with almost everything (granted I wear mainly jeans) I'd be shocked if anyone got blisters from them
Deadringer · 16/08/2021 17:20

I have lots of issues with my feet, i have fallen arches and heel spurs, and i also find it really hard to find shoes that don't rub and cause blisters. It's an absolute bloody pain! I was told by my podiatrist to avoid Sketchers, they are comfy but offer no support at all. I mostly wear Clarkes trainers or walking shoes.

itsgettingwierd · 16/08/2021 17:31

Soak your feet in surgical spirit to toughen the skin.

We had to do that for pointe work in ballet!

ofwarren · 16/08/2021 17:39

I got blisters on my heel within 15 minutes of wearing sketchers go walk.

MeredithGreyishblue · 16/08/2021 20:08

@lljkk

Do you have big bunions, OP? Most people don't have chronic blister problems. There must be something unusual about your feet.
Nope. That's somewhere they rarely rub!

Fit flops are amazing! I have arthritis in my feet and these are just so comfy and don't give me blisters.
Clarks shoes are fab too

ByThePool2021 · 16/08/2021 20:17

Rather than new winter boots - why not take your current ones to be resoled at timpsons because then you don’t need wear any new ones in. No need to have new shoes ever really, just repair the comfy ones you already have.
But if you want new shoes, I only wear toms now as they are so comfy

SmallPrawnEnergy · 16/08/2021 20:39

I’m exactly the same. I live in either sandals, vans or winter boots. Sketchers just made my feet horribly sweaty and the memory foam stank after a few wears even though I don’t have sweaty or stinky feet, a common problem if you google it apparently.

december212 · 16/08/2021 20:43

Hotter Juno trainers are unbelievably comfy. Better than slippers! Don't look like they belong on an old lady either Grin

L1ttleSeahorse · 16/08/2021 23:54

Im surprised so many say sketchers. Well in one sense. I found them comfortable but like @Deadringer my podiatrist/orthotic person said they are bad and reallh bad for feet. I now wear supportive walking trainers or hotter (or clarkes) with my insoles. My custom insoles (nhs) have made a huge difference.

MissFritton65 · 17/08/2021 00:12

I recommend a Compeed blister stick. Great stuff - just rub over problem areas before wearing new shoes and no blisters.

Touty · 17/08/2021 00:19

Sketchers cut the back of my heels really badly. Can’t wear them. 70 pounds down the drain Angry

discusstin · 17/08/2021 01:18

Sketchers hurt the back of my heel really badly. I have the most sensitive feet, it’s like the Princess and the Pea. The slightest thing will rub them raw. Birkenstock’s are the only things that work for me.

NigellaAwesome · 17/08/2021 01:28

My podiatrist absolutely hates sketchers and says he sees more and more young people coming to see him with problems as a result.

He recommends hokka one one shoes. I got a pair of their slides, and they are amazingly comfortable.

Wingedharpy · 17/08/2021 02:42

Invest in a wooden 2 way shoe stretcher OP, that way you can use that to make your new shoes a tad wider/longer/more accommodating for any strange lumpy bits on your feet rather than trying to break them in with your delicate foot flesh.Wink

ShitShop · 17/08/2021 12:28

Fit Flops all summer and Uggs all winter. It’s the way forward I tell you.

This.

I have been wearing these for the last four years. Heaven!!

Wotsitsarecheesy · 17/08/2021 13:23

I had a pair of sketchers that I loved and wore loads. Then I developed a knee problem. The physio told me to show her the shoes I walked in. Turns out I had pronation when wearing both my sketchers and my trainers which was making the damage to my knee worse. It may even have caused it in the first place. It won't get 'better' and so I am wary of sketchers now. They may be very comfortable but mine just weren't supportive enough. New trainers fixed the pronation but I'm left with a very dodgy knee! I don't get blisters, but do still get foot pain, so comfort and support are both important to me. I really struggle with 'normal' shoes. I live in walking sandals or trainers now. Not sure what I'll do when winter comes. I've tried to replace my boots for 2 years now, and have never managed to find any that fitted/wasn't painful in the shop so have still to buy a new pair. Maybe it will be third time lucky.

CounsellorTroi · 17/08/2021 13:31

Heavenly Feet and Cushionwalk are good.

DelphiniumBlue · 17/08/2021 14:10

This might be a silly question, but do you wear socks?
Only asking because I think any shoes worn without socks would give me blisters, unless they are quite bare, like flipflops or Birkenstocks.
With socks, I find most trainers OK, but FitFlop ones are comfiest. I can't wear Sketchers at all, I find they are not deep enough.

Esspee · 17/08/2021 15:27

I have always found shoes uncomfortable so went barefoot at home. I ended up with plantar faciitis.
Read that FIT FLOPS helped and have been wearing them ever since. They are not cheap but it's like walking on air.
(Please note FIT FLOPS and flip flops are chalk and cheese. Flip flops have no support and in time cause real foot problems)
