To never wear shoes again?

Yes, I'm being dramatic! But I'm f#cking fed up of EVERY new pair of shoes ending up in blisters that take a week to heal.

I've tried really expensive shoes, tried breaking them in at home in socks, tried bigger sizes, smaller sizes...

I feel at the inside of shoes to see if there's anything to rub.

I've tried sandals, loafers, trainers, toe posts, "Court shoe" types. They ALL find a bit of my foot to hurt.

Currently sporting a cut on my left foot and a blister on my right heel from shoes that seemed as soft as butter.

I'm praying my old sandals last til winter til I can get out my old boots! And then start the process with new boots... by spring they'll be comfortable.

So, am I being unreasonable to be entirely barefoot for the foreseeable?

Blister plasters for a week with every pair

Greenrubber · 16/08/2021 15:44

Sketchers go walk! I don't care about how my trainers look I care about how my feet feel

Crocks if you're feeling daring Grin

Another one recommending Skechers!

I buy mine from eBay. They are SO comfortable (and I have horrendously awkward feet) and last ages too.

Branleuse · 16/08/2021 15:51

My feet are sensitive too. Are there really no shoes or trainers that you can tolerate?

HereticFanjo · 16/08/2021 15:52

Another Sketchers fan here!

romdowa · 16/08/2021 15:55

Sketchers where OK for my feet but killed my knees and hips

Cryalot2 · 16/08/2021 16:01

I live in Fitflop footwear. Expensive but last years and so comfortable. I have narrow feet and also have arthritis and my specialist recommends them. They do a complete range ,from flipflops ,sandals, mules ,shoes trainers and boots.
At the minute am wearing dressy/trendy trainers with dresses

QueenBee52 · 16/08/2021 16:10

Fit flops and Sketchers 💕

gogohm · 16/08/2021 16:23

In all honesty you need to try Hotter, fashionable they are not but comfort is +++

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 16/08/2021 16:23

I almost exclusively wear skechers now. Only shoes that never need breaking in.

lljkk · 16/08/2021 16:28

Do you have big bunions, OP?
Most people don't have chronic blister problems.
There must be something unusual about your feet.

BashfulClam · 16/08/2021 16:36

I have weird feet that even trainers run. I agree though with pp’s Toms or Sketchers go walk are brilliant. I buy online from office.

AutistGoth · 16/08/2021 16:38

I completely sympathise, OP. When shoes eventually wear out, it's a nightmare for me. I never know if I'm wasting money (and limited resources!) by buying new ones that will rub.

I've found these to be helpful. I don't feel a thing in them. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223171979476

Good insoles also help. They absorb the "force," if you will, of walking rather than it going into your foot and causing aches and pains. I never wear shoes without insoles.

Soverymuchfruit · 16/08/2021 16:40

In future only buy shoes that can be resoled. Check what sort your nearest cobblers reckon they can do. They might be able to fix up some of your existing worn out ones too. Then, never buy new shoes again.

hulahooper2 · 16/08/2021 16:46

Comped do a little stick , you try on new shoes to see where they may rub , apply it their and they shouldn’t hurt.

@GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin

I’m a convert to Tom’s. Most amazingly comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned.
They pinch me; can't wear em.

Depends on the style. Some of their flats are very unsupportive.

I found double skinned socks can help. You can find them in runners shops.

StoneofDestiny · 16/08/2021 16:58

Sketchers - never need 'breaking jn', like walking on air

steppemum · 16/08/2021 17:05

as you have said you have tried many different types of shoes, all these people suggesting things is a watse of time.
never mind the fact that what fits my feet might be uncomfprtable on yours.

I think you have breaking in all wrong.
wear them round the house. Once they are 100% comfortable, where them for 1 hour out of the house.
Wait a couple of days. Wear them for one morning. If necessary take a spare pair of shoes to change into.
Continue to wear them for just half a day until they are properly broken in and your feet have adjusted. I woudl say at least 10 times.

Then they are broken in. .

And if at any point they rub, buy proper blister plasters for the rub spot, wait a few days for the blister to heal and then wear them with blister plasters in that spot.

Hawdyerwheesht · 16/08/2021 17:05

Clarks unstructured and cloudstepper range. Wide fit. No blisters on someone who once got blisters from wellie boots.

Neneh · 16/08/2021 17:06

You need to look into barefoot shoes. My feet are a weird shape, but I have had no issues since I switched over completely 7 years ago. Your feet shouldn’t have to mould to the shoes.

FOR YOU. I can;t wear them at all, too wide at the heel, too unsupportive under the arch.
hemhem · 16/08/2021 17:11

It takes me about a month to break in new shoes, even slippers!! I wear them at home a lot before ever going outside. I start for 10-15mins at a time for the first few days, then 30-60mins, then half a day, then all day, then once I've worn them for a couple of days in a row at home I try them at work or out to the shops.
