To get a fruit bowl

Basically so the kids can help themselves to fruit as they can't reach up to the fridge and their constant demand for snacks is driving me mad!

I remember having one when I was little and it was great for helping myself to fruit and for letting fruit ripen.

But I also remember mealy apples and mushy grapes and fruit flies in the house.

Also, are they a bit naff? I've never been to anyone's house in the last 20 years who has one.

I have a glass fruit bowl I bought from a charity shop. I love the opulence of a fruit bowl with grapes cascading down the sides. No problems with fruit flies but do wash everything before eating due to rogue spiders in the kitchen with willy wiping tendencies.

@beigebrownblue No need to get all defensive/angry/whatever it is you are. Confused

My children are grown up now and we navigated the teenage years just fine.

Thanks @Yayayaya20 Flowers funny what some people get so het up about...

Golden delicious are always rubbish apples to be fair.
They are amazing fresh, just off the tree.

One of my apple trees is a golden delicious, and there's no comparison at all with that rubbery musty lunchbox staple.

I've conducted a small survey and everyone I know has a fruit bowl! Some were really aghast that I even asked, and their response was almost as if I had asked if they owned a telephone or drank water. My sister asked if I was trying to provoke an argument!!!

I am now wondering if perhaps the OP lives on a remote island off Scotland - one of the tiny ones... off the Isle of Mull, where perhaps for the last 20 years or so the inhabitants haven't seen one... as fruit bowls have disappeared... and Amazon don't deliver Grin.

I'm beginning to wonder if everyone is hiding them from me as some kind of weird collective joke!

We're at PIL's house this weekend and there is no visible fruit bowl or any fruit on display although DH said he had one growing up.

I also asked DH if he thought we were weird for not having a fruit bowl. Obviously he hadn't given it a moments thought!

I don't know anyone who doesn't have one!

@CrazyOldBagLady

Of all the things to have to turn to the internet for advice for!
Well, exactly this. How do people get through the bloody day? Confused

I think near empty fruit bowls look terribly sad, a few wrinkly lone grapes, a satsuma with a smudgy green patch and a bullet like pear. Nothing like a Caravaggio.
A freshly filled bowl of fruit - perfectly normal.

@pippistrelle

I clicked on the bonkers link posted by *@VeganVeal* above, and now I'm being followed round the internet by ridiculously expensive and not very nice bowls. Thank you. Still, it makes a change from the bracelet I looked at once months ago on Wolf and Badger that usually follows me round.
You just couldn't resist clicking on that link Grin
