Pampers newborn - rip off or worth it

Pampers newborn seem ridiculously overpriced in comparison to supermarket alternative. Are they really worth it?

Aldi were my favourite.

KingdomScrolls · 09/08/2021 07:25

You need to work out what fits your baby, Aldi nappies not only leaked for DS but gave him horrendous nappy rash as soon as he did a wee in them, he is clearly allergic to something in them. Nursery used another child's nappy on him when he was about two it was Aldi and the same thing happened again. We tried Lidl once and may have not bothered with a nappy they leaked so badly, I ended up throwing away the rest of the pack after a few days of persevering. I tried Tesco, Asda, Waitrose own brand and each time they weren't as good as pampers they leaked, they were rustly and plasticky feeling. We used pampers pure when he was tiny then premium protection. They were soft, didn't leak and no rashes. Also used kit and kin, naty eco which are great but not expensive and the little rascals ones you can get in Tesco with no bleach etc. You'll also find pampers are on offer fairly frequently so you just stock up then.

twinningatlife · 09/08/2021 07:27

Also also gave my baby the most awful nappy rash - yes pampers are worth it

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 09/08/2021 07:27

@starfishdish

I read somewhere online that they'd changed the formula, as a few people were complaining they weren't the same.
Not sure if that had something to do with it, as they have gotten a lot of praise in the past.
I will say for sure I would have used pampers if we hadn't tried our local shops own brand first, as dealing with leaky Nappies and piles of washing in the newborn days was so stressful!

HettytheHoover · 09/08/2021 07:30

Much prefer pampers on our two - with other brands I have to use creams as their skin is a bit sensitive, so making Aldi etc cost the same

KingdomScrolls · 09/08/2021 07:31

*more expensive

TheKeatingFive · 09/08/2021 07:31

Pampers leaked worst of all the nappies we tried. I couldn’t believe we were expected to pay a premium for such a shite product. 😂

Tesco was our go to. Followed by Aldi.

20viona · 09/08/2021 07:32

Aldi premium.

shouldistop · 09/08/2021 07:35

I used Aldi with ds1 and they were fine up until size 4 pull ups when they leaked so moved to pampers. Ds2 tried Aldi again and they leaked constantly so moved to pampers straight away.

Baconking · 09/08/2021 07:36

I wouldn't call them a rip off. They are providing a product, it's up to you whether you buy them or not.
We started in Huggies, then moved on to Lidl.

MsSquiz · 09/08/2021 07:43

I found the nappies you used depend on the size and shape of your baby.

We tried Aldi, Kit & Kin, Asda & Tesco and none of them fitted DD properly. The only ones that did were Pampers premium. She's now 19 months and wearing Pampers Nappy Pants because they're still the only ones we've tried that don't leak, make her feel wet or give her a rash and fit on her bum and tum properly

Mammma91 · 09/08/2021 07:45

Pampers are not good in my experience OP.
I thought they were really awful but i think the price is way too much.
I love aldi nappies! 2 years using Aldi & never had 1 leak!

EishetChayil · 09/08/2021 07:56

Aldi nappies are brilliant.

Waspsarearseholes · 09/08/2021 07:59

When I had my baby two years ago we got loads of freebies from pampers. You have to sign up for them but it might be worth a try to see how you like them before paying out for a pack? We didn't stick with Pampers, always use Aldi. We go there once a month specifically for nappies (and end up spending a fortune in the aisle of shite so it's a false economy I'm sure!)

AgnesPerdita · 09/08/2021 08:36

My DD didn't get on with the pampers nappies. They made her so sore and red so we never used them long enough to know about leaks or the like.

Of all the supermarket ones I like Morrisons and Asda. The co-op ones were awful for leaking if I remember rightly.

Peanutsandchilli · 09/08/2021 08:56

After 5 kids I've tried every nappy on the planet, I think. Asda's and Lidl's are great, Aldi is ok, Morrisons and Sainsbury's are meh, Tesco's own brand don't absorb well enough for my liking and my toddler is always wet. Pampers are fine when on offer and I used to use them most of the time until my youngest was allergic to their pure range and had to find an alternative. Best nappies imo are Rascal and Friends from Tesco, although they can still be a bit pricy and are not as thin as some brands. The only nappies I've ever had leaks with are cloth ones, plus they don't keep baby dry either.

Tbh though, newborns pee so little, that any of the newborn ranges are fine as long as you're changing them frequently.

blairresignationjam · 09/08/2021 09:21

After trying most brands- pampers have worked best for my baby. The pampers size range is wider at each stage than other brands so fits bigger. He is very colicky, with a big swollen round tummy most of the tie, and chunky thighs. The other brands are all too slim fitting for him.

THATmamaofMANY · 09/08/2021 09:24

As others have said it depends on your baby

Dc5 is pampers only as he has some magic pee that escapes all other nappies Hmm

Dc6 is currently in asda/tesco newborn. Aldi and Lidl leak with him. Not tried pampers i will keep them as last resort

THATmamaofMANY · 09/08/2021 09:25

The best nappies were Huggies IMO but you can't get them easily anymore

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 09/08/2021 09:31

I hated Huggies, DS leaked through every one. I still remember when DH went out for nappies and came back with a box of 100 Huggies. 😭

GalaxyGirl24 · 09/08/2021 09:38

I did Aldi and reusables for early days, only ever had one blowout leakage! Then pampers active fit pull ons /Aldi/reusables when they're older and don't need so many.

yourestandingonmyneck · 09/08/2021 09:42

Absolute rip off.

They are just nappies, they are just for peeing and pooing in. I find they all do the job fine, I'm absolutely not going to pay a premium just for a brand name.

I find all supermarket brands absolutely fine. If I had a preference it would probably be for Lidl's, the pull ups actually look very much like Pampers pull ups, but we shop in Aldi mostly so I mostly get Aldi and they are fine.

Asda's are fine, as are Tesco and Morrison's and Co-Op. I find Sainsbury's pull ups to be slightly inferior due to the kind of sticky tab things at the side but that's just nitpicking. They work fine.

Honestly, save your money.

yourestandingonmyneck · 09/08/2021 09:43

@iloveicelollies

So far have used boots, nutmeg and also someone bought us the Aldi premium so used them. Don't shop there (always get online) so they'd have to be really good for me to shlep all the way there to get nappies. baby isn't sleeping at all (nearly a month) and saw advert for pampers that has seduced me 😂 with their special special extra layer. Im at the stage of wanting to try anything but dh bolked at the price of pampers compared to what we've been getting. Thought I'd better check people's thoughts.
Oh god, no, I very much doubt a different nappy is going to help your baby sleep. Sorry to shatter any illusions you have there!
Fridaysgirl17 · 09/08/2021 09:56

Pampers were the only nappies that my son leaked through,he was preemie so I went with Pampers due to size, but once he moves up in size I noticed they just weren't great especially for the cost, we've used all supermarket nappies,Aldi,Lidl,Tesco, SuperValu,Dunnes(I'm in Ireland) we use Tesco own nappies now as I get delivery most weeks,I've been using them for years as I'm in baby no 2 now and there's no problems with them at all and especially for quarter of the price 👍🏼

SheABitSpicyToday · 09/08/2021 09:59

I found pampers smelled really bad after just one wee and they gave my daughter burns.
