Pampers newborn seem ridiculously overpriced in comparison to supermarket alternative. Are they really worth it?

Love Aldi, Love Sainsbury’s- hated Lidl - no need to spend money on pampers!

mayblossominapril · 08/08/2021 21:36

I really like Sainsbury’s for the new born stage. Can’t beat lidl when they are mobile though

Zzzzzzxxx · 08/08/2021 21:37

It depends on your baby I used pampers. Aldi always leeked terrible. My sis in law had one who could only wear pampers and one who could only wear Aldi. Don’t stock up on nappies untill you know what works x

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 08/08/2021 21:37

Pampers are fine, but it took me almost a year to realise that Tesco ownbrand are also fine. Honestly, save yourself the £5 difference per pack.

Tibtab · 08/08/2021 21:39

Buy ones you can get easily! I liked Tesco’s and Asda’s own brands but stuck with Tesco as I was doing the shop there anyway.

Tibtab · 08/08/2021 21:40

I was shocked by how much Pampers cost compared to Fred and Flo at Tesco!

tnetenba · 08/08/2021 21:40

I use Pampers Active Fit (the same as Pampers Premium Protection which were discontinued but still in some Home Bargains). I'm not normally one for brands but they are the only nappy that my DS does not leak out of. They're lovely soft nappy and you can normally get two boxes of 60 so 120 total nappies for £17. It is pricier than the supermarkets own brands but its still only a few pound for loevly soft nappies which don't leak. If Aldi or Lidl were leak free on him though I would 100% be buying them. Different nappies suit different babies.

21Bee · 08/08/2021 21:42

I’d avoid any fragranced nappies like pampers, they really aren’t great for babies.

Babynames2 · 08/08/2021 21:44

I found pampers had an awful smell when they had been weed in

THIS! I kept thinking newborn DD had a dirty nappy but they were only a little bit wet. As soon as she did a small wee they smelt awful. Never happened with another brand

Definitely prefer Sainsburys! They never leak. They’ve got a stretchy bit at the back so have always fit my slim DDs well as they aren’t baggy at the back.

HappyMeal564 · 08/08/2021 21:48

I prefer pampers, then tesco or lidl when they move to pull ups

They were for my babies. They l barely leaked.
Mammyofasuperbaby · 08/08/2021 21:51

I've used asda little angels for both of mine from size 0 to size 6 and I've never had an issue. The size 0 never had a leak even when the nappy was too big for them. Pampers on the other hand leaked and were really roomy at the legs.
My boys are stocky but very small so asda fits best but my friend child is long and thin and her baby was best in aldi Mamia nappies

Boots Pull ups are really good
Potatoy · 08/08/2021 21:52

Basically OP, it's trial and error based on the size of your baby. I did fine when baby neared the end of the size range for that size a different nappy would work a bit better.

Potentialscroogeincognito · 08/08/2021 21:52

So worth it. There is a massive difference especially when DS was little. Loved the premium protection range but now using active fit.
However, now he’s 19m I have just started trying the Amazon ones and so far so good!
Still prefer pampers but they were not available on prime when I ordered Wink

iloveicelollies · 08/08/2021 21:54

Right. I think I might buy one pack of pampers just to see. And then head to Aldi as they appear to be getting a lot of love.

They smell horrid. I much preferred Boots own brand. I like Pampers from size 4 onwards though

justasmalltownmum · 08/08/2021 21:56

Rip off and gave baby nappy rash

gwenneh · 08/08/2021 21:57

We always preferred Pampers over all of the alternatives but with the last baby we have used these: dyper.co.uk/ and they are way WAY better.

Shmithecat2 · 08/08/2021 21:57

I used Pampers Premium from day one with ds, never had a leak/poonami etc. He's never had nappy rash or any others issues. Well worth the money imo.

thetaleunfolds · 08/08/2021 21:58

Newborn, I used supermarket own brand. I was changing them so frequently it made sense. When my son got older and was only being changed less frequently (and was more active) I switched to pampers. I think it was around size 3. They lasted longer than the supermarket brands then

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 08/08/2021 22:00

Aldi were always best for leakage. But for some reason anything other than pampers gives ds a rash where the elastic is? So pampers here for that reason. However they rarely leak.

Vilanelle · 08/08/2021 22:00

We used pampers until he was in a size 3 then we switched to other brands. I hate the lidl ones, aldi are great as are asdas little angels (which I tend to buy mainly now)

Danikm151 · 08/08/2021 22:01

Pampers for newborns isn’t worth it as you go through so many and their extra layer just seems to cause nappy rash holding so much pee.
I found asda the best at that age. Now my son is old pampers nappy pants are the best

Pinchoftums · 08/08/2021 22:01

We moved to washables. DS was much happier and slept through. Think they were less irritating. Also as a lazy arse I was surprised how easy they were. Bit if an outlay intially but much much cheaper over time
