Pampers newborn - rip off or worth it

Pampers newborn seem ridiculously overpriced in comparison to supermarket alternative. Are they really worth it?

We used cloth on both of ours once they fit, but still used disposable newborns. Supermarket own are just as good. If we do have another we'll probably try muslinz and a wrap though as I prefer cloth in general.

DrGoogleSaysSo · 08/08/2021 22:10

@iloveicelollies

Right. I think I might buy one pack of pampers just to see. And then head to Aldi as they appear to be getting a lot of love.
Try Lidl as well. They're pretty good.
Teaandtoastedbiscuits · 09/08/2021 00:31

Aldi for the win.

olidora63 · 09/08/2021 00:39

Ok so a 90s mum here . I drummed it into my daughter that pampers are worth the money..lCan honestly say that when grandchild was 4 months old I had to withdraw my advice….pampers are expensive but not anymore effective 😳

SpikedTea · 09/08/2021 00:55

I tried all types with mine and honestly only Pampers worked, were soft and no rashes etc. I did not have any smells. Tesco were OK when abit older but moved back to Pampers for Nappy pants as so soft and leak free. I guess give it go!

Emimummy · 09/08/2021 01:07

Asda Little Angels. I've been using them for my daughter for nearly a year and they've never leaked!

miltonj · 09/08/2021 01:16

Aldi are good, Tesco are good. Cloth is good. Boots are good. Asda are terrible. I've heard Morrison's are awful, but never used them myself (a stranger stopped me and warned me in the aisle when I was pregnant 🤣) Pampers nappy pants (without the tabs) are the best we've found and we use them over night.

miltonj · 09/08/2021 01:17

Home bargains sell pampers at a significantly discounted price.

LadyGAgain · 09/08/2021 01:19

They stink of wee once baby has had a wee. Aldi were brilliant.

Everyoneisgonewhere · 09/08/2021 01:48

We use cloth nappy during the day and use pampers Harmonie at night time. Definitely no smell as that's put me off disposable nappies especially aldi and lidl brands. My 11 week old is beginning to sleep longer stretches but the wetness from the cloth nappy wakes her up.

Spyro1234 · 09/08/2021 02:00

Try cloth nappies! They are amazing.

Littlekittyscupcake · 09/08/2021 02:41

I think pampers are softer and seem better quality compared to the supermarket brands. Different brands will suit different babies better and be more or less likely to leak because of that.

buckingmad · 09/08/2021 04:38

I have a one week old and using aldi mamia. Not used anything else so can’t compare but had no leaks and baby’s bottom is still soft as a peach. Also using their water wipes.

Vbree · 09/08/2021 05:01

Completely worth it in my opinion. Have used them since my son was newborn. Better fit and absorbency than other nappies and much softer. Have very rarely had leaks. Not sure what people are talking about with the plastic smell, I've always thought they have a nice fragrance.

nancydroo · 09/08/2021 05:17

Pampers were always the best option. The price did make me shop around other brands but I always went back to pampers because they didn't leak like other brands. Just a shame about the expense.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 09/08/2021 06:00

I used pampers for DC1.

Then for some reason got lots of leaks using them with newborn DC2, so swapped to Aldi after reading lots of reviews. I don't shop at Aldi usually, so it was solely a nappy bulk buying mission, but the quality/price were worth the trip. I then used Lidl for pull ups stage (new Lidl shop opened up much closer than the Aldi). They were also really good quality.

Rosebel · 09/08/2021 06:07

I use Pampers at night as they are the only thing that keep my son dry. I use Asda or Aldi in the day but never Lidel. They are rubbish. Have to change him every 90 minutes with Lidel or he wets through.

2020newmum · 09/08/2021 06:40

I love Pampers - they’re so soft. My son is 16 months old and has had about two leaks ever (and they were overnight when I probably left it too long to change him Blush). He’s never had nappy rash either, not once. You get what you pay for IMO!

2020newmum · 09/08/2021 06:42

That’s rubbish! And probably means they work out equal to or more expensive than Pampers, since you’re having to use so many more.

CoalCraft · 09/08/2021 06:44

Tesco own brand ("Free and Flo") were great for DD, but Sainsbury's own brand just didn't fit her right. It probably depends on your baby's shape.

CoalCraft · 09/08/2021 06:44

Er.... FRED and Flo

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 09/08/2021 07:07

I found nutmeg have worked really well for me, and they are cheap.
Whatever works and is affordable is my motto.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 09/08/2021 07:14

Also we tried aldi mamia Nappies last summer and they were absolutely awful.
Think I was in tears as we had a nappy cake with 100s of them as a gift, as my Sil had raved on and on about them and chose the Nappy.

We persisted with them for weeks and tried sizing up but wee and poo was always leaking on babies sheets so I was changing them every day.
Think it's mostly down to babies shape really, but they definitely didn't suit! Can't say I had problems with pampers but if the cheaper brand was working I wasn't going to spend 30-60 quid more a month on them compared to a few quid a week.

StarfishDish · 09/08/2021 07:15

Lidl nappies are our favourite Smile

@NotMyselfWithoutCoffee I'm so glad it's not me! Our daughter is 6 months and we started on Aldi nappies. Like you, they leaked and didn't seem to fit properly!

So many people went on about how good they were and still do now.
