If your young teen tells you to fuck off...

...how do you respond/what do you do? Dc has apologised but said I deserved it. I said something that could have been phrased better but I have ASD and sometimes my mouth bypasses my brain. I've apologised for my poor choice of words. It was a comment on one of her friendships that is very on and off and they fall out most days and I said something to that effect. It didn't warrant being told to fuck off.
Nc for this.

Does that make it OK then?

In my home yes. However, if you're concerned then I could give you the phone number so you could
check if there's any trauma.
Some may think it's impossible to have happened, but that's also up to them.
The op asked what someone would do, I stated what I did so I'll not let her thread be derailed any further by getting into an internet spat with a random stranger.
You have your way if dealing with things, I have mine.

I can’t get excited about the odd swear word. Most people swear, and teenagers aren’t immune. Sounds like tit for tat. It’s not necessarily an indication of a disastrous relationship - in fact I vaguely recall some research about people who swear being healthier and having better relationships.

Washing mouths our used to be a fairly frequent occurrence. Not nice, but unless a regular happening within a more generally abusive home people survived. It didn’t ever stop teenagers swearing though. Pointless as much as abusive.

Best to let some things go.

Not the original research but an article explaining why swearing can be a good thing.

Love me a good swear.

speakout · 10/08/2021 07:53

I like a good swear too.
My kids loved it in senior school when they were allowed to swear in class- and some teacjers swore like troppers too.

Actually I'd be amazed if my dd DIDN'T tell me to fuck off if we had a big argument
