I love wearing dresses for work but I’m really struggling to find any online that aren’t mustard yellow or have frills in weird places!!! It’s an office environment so needs to be smart/tailored. MNetters where do you buy dresses for work?

I buy more expensive clothes (relatively) though I've little interest in designer labels

I buy & then wear things a lot over a long period so I don't follow trends too much

I buy from:
Whistles
Sezane
Wolf & Badger
Me + Em
Jigsaw
Noa Noa
Wyse London

Maireas · 06/08/2021 12:37

I discovered Wyse London as well - love their stuff.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 06/08/2021 12:37

Any brands at Wolf and Badger people are particularly into? I have a fairly extensive wish list on there. I've been looking at Meem Label.

Maireas · 06/08/2021 12:40

Brianna.co and Marianna Deri

Maireas · 06/08/2021 12:40

Brunna, not Brianna! Bloomin autocorrect.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 06/08/2021 12:42

Yes, Marianna Deri is fairly to my taste. I always wonder about quality, fit and cut when you have only seen a brand online. I really need to get down to Coal Drops Yard and try the in-person shop.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/08/2021 12:42

I really miss Basler. There was a shop on our high street and I had a couple of simple coats and dresses which lasted and lasted and hung so well. Perfect for my teutonic build. Also quite like Baukjen for cut but not necessarily for their busy fabrics. Very tempted by a Toast dress that keeps popping up on my feed. I love Toast on-line but the shops are so uninspiring.

Oh another occasional brand is Brora.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/08/2021 12:44

My challenge is shoes. My office is literally almost in the woods with several associated buildings up to a mile away. I so hanker after dainty shoes but compromise nowadays with stout lace-ups and sensible boots.

Maireas · 06/08/2021 12:45

Toast is great, personally I've never had a bad item from there.
I miss Jaeger, I saw M&S were selling their stuff, but not much in my local.

jackstini · 06/08/2021 13:05

@bonfireheart - really easy. Just post back to the address on the website (you do have to pay postage) & they email you when received & refund straight back onto your card

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/08/2021 13:14

Have you tried Memery shoes @RosesAndHellebores, they are retro and some look fantastic for walking but still smart. If you sign up for their newsletter I think you get a discount.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/08/2021 13:22

@disfordarkchocolate the shoes on that link are absolutely perfect for my needs and style. Thank you so much. Flowers

LaraDecouvrie · 06/08/2021 13:50

Boden sale and next! Mind you I don’t buy often. I’m a small fat person but find Bodens dresses suit me

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/08/2021 13:51

No problem @RosesAndHellebores, you may like Mod Shoes too. I have a pair of Faye Brougues in salted caramel that are lovely.

Oblomov21 · 06/08/2021 13:53

Watching with interest because I do need some new work dresses.

PeonyRose80 · 06/08/2021 13:54

Possibly more top end - subjective am sure….. beautifully made, well thought out for work!

@Disfordarkchocolate - thanks for the recommendation for Memery shoes! I'd never heard of them, I like those Oxford walking shoes.

Ozanj · 06/08/2021 14:56

Depends on where you work as to what would be appropriate. I work in a nursery and often do need to wear smart clothes / blazers. I usually get my really formal winter-weight jackets and dresses from Hobbs during the sales, H&M for lighter summer dresses that I can wear under a blazer, smart shoes from Schu or Office.

Gemma2019 · 06/08/2021 19:48

When I have finished with my dresses I donate them to Frocks for Freedom on Facebook and I have also bought some lovely items from there. All money goes to small animal charities.

OxanaVorontsova · 07/08/2021 08:36

Whistles sale is fab for workwear for pear shapes
Warehouse
H&M
M&S
Cos
Gap for fine knitwear
Just got a couple of Ganni dresses in the Outnet sale

I’ve got a few things from Conquista (a Greek company) and Sugarhill Brighton.

I like the look of Rumour too but their stuff is a bit out of my price range! Hoping they’ll have some good deals in the sales.

Thanks so much for the recommendation for those shoes. I love my shoes but since returning to work after having kids I can’t manage 4” stilettos anymore!
Mazblue86 · 07/08/2021 14:10

I highly recommend eBay! Just search for size X dress Hobbs. It's a little more hit and miss but I just think the expensive things hang more nicely and are more flattering. I'm just a teacher so can't afford me Hobbs etc new!

Cazziebo · 07/08/2021 14:10

Used to be Hobbs. In this Zoom era, it's Weird Fish.

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/08/2021 14:29

I have my eye on those too @Maireas. If I hadn't just bough two pairs of brown shoes I'd have bought them already.
