I love wearing dresses for work but I’m really struggling to find any online that aren’t mustard yellow or have frills in weird places!!! It’s an office environment so needs to be smart/tailored. MNetters where do you buy dresses for work?

Hobbs (sales and charity shops). I’ve got a lot of work dresses but the 4 Hobbs ones I’ve bought over the last decade have really stood the test of time both in quality and timelessness. I like Jigsaw for tailoring but they’re not as good for dresses IME.
Uniqlo sometimes do good basic dresses
M&S but it’s hit and miss
Joy/Louche

PegasusReturns · 05/08/2021 22:25

Reiss
Hobbs
The Fold
Ted Baker
J Crew
Tory Burch
Michael Kors
Victoria Beckham for something special

All my workwear is Hobbs/ LK Bennett. But all of it is bought for a fraction of the cost on Brand Alley or eBay.

CoolCatTaco · 05/08/2021 22:27

Boden. Love a dress with pockets.

RosesAndHellebores · 05/08/2021 22:27

I buy Hobbs/LK Bennett for special occasions Shock

Pinkcadillac · 05/08/2021 22:32

Jigsaw, Boden's ponte dresses, Whistles

Seeingadistance · 05/08/2021 22:33

Charity shops.

ThinWomansBrain · 05/08/2021 22:35

my "work wear" is getting more and more casual - I can't be the only one!
I bought two really nice dresses from White Stuff earlier in the year.
Smart black jeans from Gap recently
Uniqlo are excellent for basics

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2021 22:35

A real mix.

Warehouse, MandS, Oasis, Boden, Sainsbury’s, anywhere really

NormanSicily · 05/08/2021 22:37

Charity shops, especially if you don't want to look like the rest of the herd and help look after the environment, win win!

Lan2020 · 05/08/2021 22:45

I love Other Stories and Sezane

converseandjeans · 05/08/2021 22:47

M&S, Boden, H&M

jackstini · 05/08/2021 22:47

Everything5pounds.com
I can try so much stuff without much financial risk - usually buy 10 things and maybe donate 2/3 to charity

Mantlemoose · 05/08/2021 22:47

Simon Jersey - not the cheapest but wears well.

bonfireheart · 05/08/2021 22:52

@jackstini how easy is it to return their stuff?

DreamingofTimbuktu · 05/08/2021 22:52

Whistles, Mint Velvet, Jigsaw

allfurcoatnoknickers · 05/08/2021 22:56

ASOS + Whistles mostly. I trawl the sales.

Lucia574 · 05/08/2021 22:57

Winser, Me and Em, Whistles

movingadviceneeded · 05/08/2021 22:58

eBay. Adopt don't shop!!!

OppsUpsSide · 05/08/2021 22:59

I love Roman for dresses. It’s a bit like a charity shop in a way, you have to sift through and not be put off by the surrounding garments. My favourite dresses are from there though and they get a lot of compliments.

3peassuit · 05/08/2021 23:00

Jigsaw
Whistles
LK Bennett
Mint Velvet
Hobbs
Biden
Aspigia

I wait for the sales unless it’s for a special occasion and I must have something immediately.

McSleepy · 05/08/2021 23:01

Mainly Boden, but also Hobbs, Mint velvet, Alice temperly at John Lewis and the odd thing from sainsburys. I try to get all of them in the sales if possible- Boden sales/discounts can be really good and I find their dresses timeless and last really well. Plus, as pp have said - they have pockets!!!

notsohippychick · 05/08/2021 23:02

I buy all mine from charity shops- same brands as mentioned above. Whistles, Hobbs etc. If you invest time and look you can pick up some amazing stuff.

All my wardrobe is full of these brands but I’d never set foot in their shops. I’ve even found new with tags.

Oh and M and S is pretty great too.

AnnabelC · 05/08/2021 23:04

Monsoon, Mint Velvet.

HaveringWavering · 05/08/2021 23:07

Used to be Debenhams Sad. I know a lot of the brands they carried are available else where but it’s not the same as a good Debenhams browse.

I like House of Fraser own brand - Linea- and their Issa dresses.
