I love wearing dresses for work but I’m really struggling to find any online that aren’t mustard yellow or have frills in weird places!!! It’s an office environment so needs to be smart/tailored. MNetters where do you buy dresses for work?

The Fold have good sales & their fit is perfect for me.

LK Bennet too.

I think Hobbs have become a bit frumpy. Just not right in me anymore.

Also A local chain store, Dunnes Stores have some real gems at great prices.

MintyCedric · 05/08/2021 23:18

I'm...ahem...not slim Confused.

Most of my work dresses come from Dorothy Perkins, which is weird as when I was slimmer their stuff didn't fit me well.

Smart jackets & skirts from Next.

Cardis/boleros from SimplyBe and Boden

Don't really wear trousers for work as can never seem to find smart ones that suit me.

LondonLife3 · 05/08/2021 23:19

I have some lovely stuff from Roman Originals

Haha. Mustard went away years ago and now it's been egg yolk yellow for the last two years or so. Not exactly a flattering colour on most people and I wish they would explore other yellows more!

Joe Browns are absolutely hideous. They come out with something nice every blue moon. The rest of the time it looks like garish patchwork vomit, with buttons and decorations put on as if a child has been inside their grandmother's sewing box.

You might want to try Hobbs and John Lewis. I was seriously unimpressed with Boden. The fabric was literally Primark quality, which for the price Boden is, is pretty bad.

Pottedpalm · 05/08/2021 23:20

I do find Hobbs fabrics to be heavy sometimes. A dress and jacket from them is too much in a centrally heated room, and we have to wear a jacket.

MotherofTerriers · 05/08/2021 23:21

Sahara, tk max

WarmAndFluff · 05/08/2021 23:30

I'm also quite a large size and get stuff from Seasalt in the sales (also with pockets!), Simply Be, and M&S.

stevalnamechanger · 05/08/2021 23:35

Loads of Hobbs and other top name stuff brand new on eBay outlets :)

JaceLancs · 05/08/2021 23:36

Jaeger, marks and Spencer, tkmaxx, next

cherish123 · 06/08/2021 00:11

Boden, Hush (need to size down), Sofie Schnoor (lovely but £££), Nümph, French Connection.

ConsuelaHammock · 06/08/2021 01:50

Boden - in the sale.

1forAll74 · 06/08/2021 03:25

I have bought a few dresses off ebay this Summer, mostly they are from M&S Per UNA brand, or Monsoon. they are all strappy dresses, fit and flare types, and cotton, and size 10's. and all of them are lovely. some of them were new, with price tags on, non of them were over 4 or £5 each, with a bit of postage..

Butterfly44 · 06/08/2021 04:09

Roman. I absolutely love the quality of their clothes.

Newmum29 · 06/08/2021 04:39

Whistles
All Saints
& Other Stories

If you like smart tailoring in lighter-weight fabrics and are happy to buy online, you could try these Australian labels: Cue, Marcs, and Country Road.

Bambooshoot · 06/08/2021 05:56

I used to wear Hobbs, Coast, Ted Baker and LK Bennett dresses to work (very formal office, and this was pre-kids so they were affordable in the sales!) until I moved to a country where dry cleaning cost upwards of 15 quid per dress and I couldn't justify it. So I bought a load of fitted black/navy pencil dresses from Grace Karin on Amazon that are cotton based and machine washable, and just wear a different cardigan with them each time. They are super comfy as well as they have stretch. Mind you, this was pre-lockdown so they may not look so good when I have to get back into them . . . . !!

SoundBar · 06/08/2021 06:12

All these brands you can pick up on eBay for a fraction of the cost.

Also branded 100% leather shoes and handbags Grin

SoundBar · 06/08/2021 06:14

Pro tip: use the saved search features on eBay with phone notifications so you can immediately jump on items matching your criteria as soon as they're listed!

DinosApple · 06/08/2021 06:26

When I was job hunting after we sold our business I bought a couple of interview dresses from Boden. One formal office, one more of a fun tunic style dress. Then I took a job as a TA
Grin.
I use Sainsbury's mostly now, and tbh if I'd got an office job I'd have packed my wardrobe out with bits from there.

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/08/2021 06:26

I try to shop in the sales from Jigsaw, they last really well. Also, M&S, John Lewis, Monsoon, Seasalt, La Redoute (sizes can be variable).

Recently I've had some lovely dresses from Collectif and Joanie. Both a bit retro and very flattering.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 06/08/2021 06:46

Oliver Bonas - usually in the sales. Hobbs when I had to be boring and conservative.

HelloDulling · 06/08/2021 06:52

Uniqlo are great for work wear. Dresses, but also shirts, trousers and merino wool sweaters.

Onlinedilema · 06/08/2021 06:53

I love dresses and bought 4 this week 😯😯😯. 3 from ebay; one Per Una, one Denenhams, one Tu. Then a beautiful long dress from an independent shop in a town we stopped at yesterday.

catfunk · 06/08/2021 07:00

Cos, John Lewis, uniqlo, H&M
