Flamingo Land suitable for a baby?!

sofiegiraffe · 04/08/2021 18:32

Please help me settle this disagreement with my OH. We have 3 older kids between us (his two aged 14 & 11, mine aged 15), and a baby together. He wants all 5 of us to go on a family day out to Flamingo Land. I've never been. He's insisting it's suitable for all the kids including the 4 month old baby? To me it looks just like a theme park - I can't think of anything I'd rather do less with a baby tbh. He thinks we'll all have a lovely family day out. I don't - I think he should just take his eldest two (and my eldest if she wants to go) and I'll stay home with baby. He thinks I'm being miserable and unreasonable. Help?!

Oh and I forgot to add that I hate theme parks myself so wouldn't be planning to go on any rides myself and it's £40 pp entry. Seems daft for me to spend that on myself when I'll get nothing out of it?!

I think you are being an utter misery , go have a family day out .

Soubriquet · 04/08/2021 18:38

Ok so there won’t be much a baby can do, but it’s about a day out as a family not just for the baby.

You can sit and watch or take the baby on the little toddler type rides that they cater for

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/08/2021 18:39

We used to do the zoo and leave the rides to the bigger children. However, it's more mixed than it used to be and didn't like the change.

PotteringAlong · 04/08/2021 18:39

I took my youngest to Drayton manor when he was about 6 weeks old! All good!

FionnulaTheCooler · 04/08/2021 18:40

There is a zoo and petting farm there you can take the baby for a walk round if you don't fancy the rides.

can you take a 4 month old on rides? I thought she'd be far too young.

Well the zoo sounds much more up my street. Maybe I could just spend all day in there Grin

I thought there was a zoo there too? Family days out don’t need to be centred around a 4 month old when you have 3 teenagers, and you may not like theme parks but if the others do then go and be a part of a family day. He’s right, YABU

HalloHello · 04/08/2021 18:43

Your baby will likely sleep in the pram the entire time! Go with your family and have a bit of fun FFS. You can take it in turns to stand with the pram while the other does rides, there's also animals there. My partner and I went years ago and really enjoyed it.

sofiegiraffe · 04/08/2021 18:44

I don't think the day needs to be centred around the baby - just something suitable for all. I didn't think there'd be anything to entertain a baby with at a theme park that's all.

I'm liking the sound of the animals tbh

4 month olds don't do anything really!

Just let the older ones enjoy the day and the baby will eat/nap/chew it's socks/usual baby stuff.

This! You don't need to go on rides.
sofiegiraffe · 04/08/2021 18:47

The other thing putting me off is the cost - looks to be around £180 for all of us for entry. Surely we can have a day all together for much cheaper.

What sort of family day is suitable for a 4 month old though? Best thing about babies of that age is how portable they are to be honest. Hopefully your feeling better about it now there’s animals though. Not sure you could really argue a zoo isn’t suitable for a baby.

Boshmama · 04/08/2021 18:50

Yabu- just go and have a fun day! The baby will be fine going along for the ride!

JaffaRaf · 04/08/2021 18:51

See the price of it I understand is off putting! If you sign up to kids pass (£1 for a 7 day trial) you can get 30% off the tickets apparently. I just googled because there’s always vouchers going for flamingo land somewhere.

Mydogsbetterthanyourdog · 04/08/2021 18:52

I'm struggling to think of a day out that a 4 month old and a 15?year old would enjoy equally.
The baby won't care where they are, all go and let the older ones enjoy themselves on the rides whilst you walk round the zoo.
Surely the cost doesn't include the baby though

ToykotoLosAngeles · 04/08/2021 18:55

There's no such thing as entertainment for a 4 month old really. You wheel them about, they nap. However It is going be tedious waiting for them all to queue and ride the big stuff so I'd suggest splitting up for most of it.

HalloHello · 04/08/2021 18:56

4 month olds don't need any entertainment. What would you rather do?

SingingSands · 04/08/2021 18:57

It's a family day out. You get the enjoyment from watching your family enjoy themselves and I'm sure you'll get a chance to go on rides too - you can let your DH or one of the teens hold the pram whilst you ride.

Yeah I think this is part of my worry - of baby gets unsettled etc and I'm just stood there with a crying baby in a pram while they're all on rides. Feels a bit daft.

@SingingSands

I don't like rides so I don't go on them.

Oh thanks, I'll have a look.
