Reported for not wearing a mask

Lykkeli123 · 02/08/2021 08:40

By an Uber driver, I haven’t worn a mask since the 19th July, I was stupid to forget to take one in my Uber as I know they still require them.

The driver was friendly, he didn’t ask me to wear a mask at any point, then a few days later I got an email from Uber saying I had been reported by a driver for not wearing one.

I totally understand that i should have put one on as it’s their policy. However I don’t get why the driver didn’t just politely ask me in the task to wear one? Why be all laughing and joking and then report me.

OP posts:

Maybe it could but I am not responding to them on their threads?

What has what other people wrote got to do with me?

I'm making the point that the OP isn't the only one on the thread who comes across as superior and self important (not that I think she does)

RuggerHug · 02/08/2021 14:07

@Lykkeli123

Next time you forget anything or make a mistake then remember you’re clearly a shit person.
Next time you forget anything or make a mistake that could have serious consequences for other people, I think is what you meant to say.
Faultymain5 · 02/08/2021 14:10

How would have sitting in stony silence and then reporting her been better.

It would have lessened the spread from the maskless “intent on spreading Covid”Covid spreader. Or are we no longer trying to prevent transmission?

If she’s so scary that she needs reporting because of her maskless status what the hell is he doing encouraging her spread. That’s one good thing off the top of my head.

But I never said she was. I was pointing out, that she is complaining people doing things she is doing.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat there is literally no scientific reason why wearing a mask would make someone cough. None (unless, as i said upthread you were allergic to what it was washed in)...

Wolframhart · 02/08/2021 14:17

Have you not read about the many incidents of people becoming violent when asked to wear a mask? The fact is that many people without a mask haven’t just forgotten and the driver has no way of telling the difference.

I'm sorry but I think I know better than you when it comes to what makes me cough. I have a chronic cough anyway thanks to hay fever. If I wear a paper mask it's a lot worse. I don't really care whether you believe me or not but that's what happens.

Or maybe he was uncomfortable about it and decided this was the better way to do it. To ensure op remembers next time.

Who said she was scary? No one said he was terrified.

He simply reported a factual event. Op didn't have a mask on.

Or Op could have brought it up. You can't tell me, that she got in. Saw him wearing a mask, didn't even think about her own never thought about it on the journey.

Why didn't she say broach it?

Its her mask, her rating that she is worried about (or getting banned). He doesn't have to handle it in a way op finds acceptable.

He is allowed to handle it, in the way he sees fit. Which was to make the journey as relaxed as he could and report later. That's his choice.

So weird how people really don't think other people should be allowed to choose how to handle something.

Amaterasux · 02/08/2021 14:19

@PinkSparklyPussyCat ah - so there is another non-mask wearing cause to your cough - a chronic cough.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/08/2021 14:19

I have to say reading this thread makes me glad I've never used Uber than for takeaways! I couldn't be bothered with worrying about my rating, having to rate the driver etc. It sounds like far too much hassle!

A chronic cough that gets worse when I wear a paper mask! FFS!

Amaterasux · 02/08/2021 14:23

@PinkSparklyPussyCat - honestly they don't, maybe there's something psychological going on for which i was going to suggest some ideas that may help. And there's plenty of varieties of masks to use too.

Comefromaway · 02/08/2021 14:23

He should have at least checked whether you were exempt ot not and that would have served as a reminder.

I must make dd aware of this. She's just moved to London and works late at night. Uber is her safety net. She is exempt from wearing a mask although she tries to when she is able in crowded situations for as long as she can tolerate it.

Faultymain5 · 02/08/2021 14:37

Or Op could have brought it up. You can't tell me, that she got in. Saw him wearing a mask, didn't even think about her own never thought about it on the journey.

I can’t tell you one way or the other. I get in Uber’s and I pay no attention to the driver. The OP said she forgot, she doesn’t say when she remembered. So we have no idea if it was when she saw him in a mask or half way through the journey.

I’ve got to the platform and saw a train coming up before I realised I hadn’t had it on. It’s happened more than once too. People are in their own world travelling.. just because you may notice doesn’t mean everyone else will. As you point out not everyone’s way is the same. It’s still a docking move.

Faultymain5 · 02/08/2021 14:37

dickish move

Happy36 · 02/08/2021 14:42

It's really weird that you didn't wear one, was the driver not wearing one? Ywbvu.

WildingFae · 02/08/2021 14:48

Uber policy says mask wearing is required.

You did not wear a mask. Therefore YABU.

I really think we should leave this, I don't have a psychological issue! I wear a cotton mask if I need to wear one.

To be honest, I'd prefer the paper ones as the ear loops are thinner - the thicker elastic catches on my conch piercing and irritates it!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/08/2021 14:54

Sorry @Amaterasux, that wasn't meant to sound abrupt! I'm actually wondering if the masks I've got have any fibres that could irritate my throat. I have no idea where they came from, they're probably some cheapo ones from Amazon!

Happy36 · 02/08/2021 14:56

When booking an Uber, there's an extra page you have to read and click to confirm that you've read their COVID rules, the first one is wear a mask.

Hekatestorch · 02/08/2021 14:59

@Faultymain5

But she wasn't in her own world enough to notice his bodyanguage and listen to him joking. She appears to have engaged with him.

But not enough to notice he had a mask. She didn't mention why she didn't have one.

But he should have been the one to bring it up. He can't deal with it his way, but op is completely not at fault for forgetting her mask and not paying attention. Confused

Theluggage15 · 02/08/2021 15:06

How does Uber or the driver know that she is not exempt or are they refusing to carry people who can’t wear them?

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 02/08/2021 15:10

How does Uber or the driver know that she is not exempt or are they refusing to carry people who can’t wear them?

My son seems to get the same few drivers, so they know him. They’ve seen him use a mask so would know he’s not exempt. Maybe the same with OP.

HaveringWavering · 02/08/2021 15:11

@Theluggage15

He doesn't. Uber have done a risk assessment based on masks being worn. As part of this drivers are told to report to Uber HQ if passenger not wearing a mask.

Uber log this for stats. They auto send an email to OP that says "it is our policy to wear a mask unless you are exempt". That's all.

gogohm · 02/08/2021 15:12

There's some very anti mask people about who are aggressive, he didn't know you weren't one
