Reported for not wearing a mask

Lykkeli123 · 02/08/2021 08:40

By an Uber driver, I haven’t worn a mask since the 19th July, I was stupid to forget to take one in my Uber as I know they still require them.

The driver was friendly, he didn’t ask me to wear a mask at any point, then a few days later I got an email from Uber saying I had been reported by a driver for not wearing one.

I totally understand that i should have put one on as it’s their policy. However I don’t get why the driver didn’t just politely ask me in the task to wear one? Why be all laughing and joking and then report me.

You have to agree and ride when you book so how did you forget?

It happened to me when i shared a taxi with my sister who took her mask off to talk on her phone, i got an email the next day

Faultymain5 · 02/08/2021 13:44

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

You didn’t have a mask so even if he was brave enough to risk a confrontation it wouldn’t have solved anything. He was correct to report the way he did, he could have refused to do the journey.
That’s what he should have done. Rather than having a laugh with the poster then reporting. His behaviour is low.
Galley649 · 02/08/2021 13:44

What you have completely lost sight of OP is that Uber give their driver a process to follow, and the driver followed the process - therefore yes YABU to be so incensed by him reporting you.

You don't want to hear that though, you want everyone to agree that you are better than other people who don't wear masks, that the driver should have been able to instantly recognise that, and therefore treated you differently.
YABU for that too, just to be clear.

Faultymain5 · 02/08/2021 13:45

@Hekatestorch

And also if your passenger rating is so important, always have a mask on you. Incase you want to use uber.
Cause we’ve never forgotten anything ever in life. All he had to do was lock his door and said he couldn’t take her. Happy to taker her money though.
Lykkeli123 · 02/08/2021 13:47

You’re actually laughable. Stop projecting, where on earth have I said I think I’m better than people who wear masks?
I never usually forget but stop sniping at me like you’ve never done anything wrong in your life.

@Lykkeli123

So it’s not ok for non mask wearers to be abusive, yet apparently it’s ok for mask wearers to abuse non mask wearers and label them selfish twats ? Some of these replies are funny “Maybe you came across as aggressive” Yeah, I slammed the door very hard.
I agree with you but now your likely to get verbally bashed.

The ‘agree and ride’ mask button was removed from the app ages ago

It’s just confirm and book now when I use the app

Lykkeli123 · 02/08/2021 13:48

Next time you forget anything or make a mistake then remember you’re clearly a shit person.

Who said no one has ever forgotten anything?

But if I need a good customer rating to go in asda. And I really need to use asda, I am going to make sure I comply with their rules.

And if I don't, I am not going to lay the blame at their staffs door for not correcting me.

He isn't obliged to refuse or challenge op. Op forgot to wear a mask, in a place she needed one. He was then allowed to act on that as he saw fit.

They must have re-added it as I took an Uber yesterday and there was a pop up during the booking process that said I had to confirm I understood it was mandatory to wear a mask in the Uber.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/08/2021 13:51

But what is the environmental difference between throwing away a paper mask, or washing a fabric one using water, power, detergent?

You're really clutching at straws! I'd be using water, powder any detergent for my regular wash so unless you're daft enough to do a separate one for a couple of masks then you're not making any difference to the environment. Unlike the lazy fuckers who throw their paper mask, along with its metal nose strip and elastic straps, wherever they want. Never mind the wildlife eh!

Faultymain5 · 02/08/2021 13:51

@WhenISnappedAndFarted

I'm asthmatic and wear a mask, in fact I did a 3 hour train journey with one on yesterday. The only problem I do have is after taking it off, I spent the whole evening coughing and had to take my Ventolin inhaler a few times, no issue when it's on though.
Puss and dog don’t have the same luck.

Absolutely and she has absolutely every reason to be passed off with the disingenuous way it was done.
Faultymain5 · 02/08/2021 13:53

pissed off.

Sowhattodo · 02/08/2021 13:54

Sounds like your more annoyed you didn't get an argument from him asking you than the actual email😬

jojogoesbust · 02/08/2021 13:56

No. The agree and ride button is still there when I used uber on Friday

Hekatestorch · 02/08/2021 13:57

Absolutely and she has absolutely every reason to be passed off with the disingenuous way it was done.

Disingenuous? OK.

OK can be pissed off. But she then asked people if she was unreasonable.

And yes, I think she was unreasonable and (back to my earlier comment) superior and seems quite self important.

The driver dealt with it how he felt was best. Op doesn't have to agree. But why ask for opinions? If she doesn't want them?

Again, write self important to ask for opinions then get arsey because people don't agree.

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 02/08/2021 13:57

It’s done now. I’m sure you won’t forget again.

toocold54 · 02/08/2021 13:58

He didn’t mention it incase you kick off and became aggressive.

But I’m quite surprised that he didn’t ask you to put one on before you got in, as surely you may have been exempt!

I wonder if the report may not be a complaint as such but more a warning to other drivers incase they don’t want an unmasked passenger.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/08/2021 13:58

And yes, I think she was unreasonable and (back to my earlier comment) superior and seems quite self important.

The same could be said for a lot of posters, including the ones who think they know better than me what makes me cough!

Faultymain5 · 02/08/2021 13:59

@Apeirogon

Yes it's human to forget your mask sometimes OP. He was being human too, in feeling cross with your behaviour and wanting to do something about it.
No he was a money grabbing coward.

Maybe it could but I am not responding to them on their threads?

What has what other people wrote got to do with me?

It must vary by user or area then, because I have literally booked a ride and it didn’t come up…

Faultymain5 · 02/08/2021 14:03

Disingenuous? OK.

Yes I think it’s disingenuous to be all happy and joking (I mean silence would stop spread surely), then reporting her, rather than explain he can’t take her and keep it moving.

But that's his decision to make.

Not op, not yours not anyone else's. How would have sitting in stony silence and then reporting her been better.
