I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

They must have gone somewhere else surely. It's still light here but it's literally just a forest so they can't possibly still be out there.
They've possibly gone for a carvery Grin
winewolfhowls · 31/07/2021 18:46

@MeridianB

I think they’ve cycled home and he plans to cycle back on his own later to drive away.
I think so too, he won't want to admit he was in the wrong in front of his kids.

I honestly can't believe the cheek of this guy

DevonTF · 31/07/2021 18:47

If he is this much of a CF, I would also be a bit worried he may come back at night and think he can force his way out / damage your property.

Flavabobble · 31/07/2021 18:49

Just parking up to say I saw the carvery picture and ended up buying the makings of a full Sunday roast for tomorrow.
On my way home from the gym.

boomwhacker · 31/07/2021 18:49

I can't believe he's not come back yet!

NoProblem123 · 31/07/2021 18:50

Feel sorry for the children who’ve probably had a crappy day Sad

Mumteedum · 31/07/2021 18:51

Make sure that you take photos of the car with his reg visible. I know you have cc TV but in case he comes back and just breaks the padlock

GilbertsLuckySocks · 31/07/2021 18:52

You say you’re not intimidating, OP, but your behaviour is antagonistic and appalling to be honest.

Your ‘get orf moi land’ attitude makes entertaining clickbait for an online forum, but ultimately, a man potentially a lone parent is out with his kids on a weekend and you’ve deliberately prevented him from returning to his vehicle by unnecessarily blocking him in.

Then you sit there curtain twitching whilst they return and don’t know how to get their car out.

No doubt you’ve ‘taught him a right old lesson’. But now you have and I’m sure you feel really good inside, especially with all the keyboard warriors online indulging your attention seeking antics, do the right thing and put a note on his windscreen advising him to knock on your door so you can let his car out.

Yes, he’s cheeky, but you are just as bad. You’ve had your fun, now let him and his children get home.

itsgettingwierd · 31/07/2021 18:53

Been busy for a few hours and expected to come back to a conclusion to this.

I do think right now you need to log the car as 'dumped' on your private property.

Then if it's still there tomorrow see about getting it towed.

As for CF. He clearly is such a dick he cannot admit when he's wrong so would rather dump his car and get a mate or someone to pick him up!

TheSunShinesBrighter · 31/07/2021 18:53

I honestly don't know why people don't just face up to stuff...
"Hi Farm owner, I am really sorry, I have been a total CF. It was rude and arrogant of me to ditch my car, I should have waited for a space. It's your private land and I shouldn't have parked there. It's unforgivable of me etc... Please could you let me out?"

Terrazzo · 31/07/2021 18:53

If they’ve abandoned it on your property can’t you get the police to remove it? No idea but if so that would serve him right!!!

cameocat · 31/07/2021 18:54

Perhaps he's phoned for help and leaving his car there. May he think this is forestry land?

Tattleybastard · 31/07/2021 18:54

What an entitled twat - his poor kids, they must be knackered!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/07/2021 18:54
@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius can the car being there and OP being unable to move it (as it’s not hers), in a potential emergency, be used as a reason to get the police to move the car? Would that be a good enough reason?
@frazzledasarock - the CF car isn’t obstructing the Forestry Commission gate, and if the emergency services had to go to the OP’s house, they could use her other drive, so I wouldn't have thought so - but I’m no expert.

Kinneddar · 31/07/2021 18:55

If its on private property the Police can't remove it.

Absolute fucking bollocks 🤣🤣🤣

You may wish to lay down as doormat for this man to wipe his feet on whilst he gets in his car but seriously read the thread!

He's parked in private land. Labelled as private and told verbally it's private.

When asked to move from PRIVATE land he said 5 minutes.

Then didn't move and just buggered off.

The land MUST be locked for security.

No one is holding his car hostage. He could have knocked and asked for the gates to be open.

But he's too full of himself to accept he's wrong.

That's his issue - not the OPs 🤦🏼‍♀️

DepressedDD · 31/07/2021 18:56

It’s a shame you can’t tow it a few miles away but I presume you can’t tow a locked vehicle with nobody steering it and the handbrake on?

Are you kidding? You'll be telling us he has no legs and can't walk to the OP's door or has no hands and can't ring the doorbell... Maybe he has no tongue and can't speak... Poor bloke.
WashingtonSquare · 31/07/2021 18:56

What’s to stop a ‘lone parent’ knocking on the door and asking to be let out. How hard is that? Does it mean he had to drop the kids off at the workhouse for the night?

So why not just knock and ask to be let out

noone has stopped him doing that

They have disappeared. They're not standing by the car crying. FFS

Hold on- you do realise that the man spoke to OP and knows exactly where she lives so all he had to do to get out was go and ring the bell? He has never been blocked in. OP has made sure someone has been in all day.

Except one would presume a grown man perfectly capable of knocking on a door without a note prompting him to do so?

She's hardly prevented him leaving. She's just locked her gate. The man's an entitled idiot.

This is just fascinating reading! Totally behind OP, can’t wait for the next instalment so place marking 😁
