To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

@sparepantsandtoothbrush

Oh, and he's deliberately carrying on with his day being a CF thinking op, a mere woman, will back down

But all that IS going to happen is he'll eventually knock after spending a nice day out with his kids while his car has been parked somewhere helpful to him, OP will unlock the gate and then he'll go. I don't think the ending to this is going to be very thrilling (although getting to this point has been entertaining!)

I agree, it's unfortunate that the OP is a self confessed people pleaser. Maybe we should ascertain these things at the beginning of parking threads, then walk away from the ones we know will have an outcome that doesn't inconvenience the CF in the least. It's always a disappointment! Grin

Would you inform the police with details of car registration number that some unknown person has been trespassing with a parked car on your private land for the last x number of hours and looks as if he is bedding in for a long stay as he has been seen returning to the car a couple of times, sent children over the gate or fence on to your property and gone away again to continue his cycling tour and that his car is blocking access to the forestry access route and that you are reluctant to confront such an unknown and unpredictable brazen character, having spoken to him in the first place when he ignored your polite request to leave and abused your five minutes' grace period to remove his car from your private property?

Blossomtoes · 31/07/2021 16:45

@MotionActivatedDog

Do people actually talk like this?

Only in their imaginations.

That’s what I thought.

@QueenAstrid

I am literally ignoring housework, eating popcorn and refreshing this thread. I am a Mumsnet cliché.
Ha ha ha - me too - but wine, not popcorn. The whole day's gone to shite with my excitement over this thread. How sad. Grin

Leave him be if it's a one off and he's not blocking you in or harming anyone, life's too short, he's just out with his kids and it's been a tough year

The number of times I’ve read on here that “it’s been a tough year” as an excuse for any behaviour, ranging from mildly irritating to absolutely appalling is ridiculous.

Did you miss the bit where he's blocking the exit and her insurance states the gates have to be locked? I mean I've had a tough year too, doesn't mean I get be an arsehole and park in someone else's property!
Ilovecaviar · 31/07/2021 16:53

Tuck in, looks lovely. It always amazes me on these threads that the people who have the audacity to park where ever they like, never have the balls to knock on a door to retrieve their car when it’s blocked in and admit the error of their ways!

Let us know what he says if he comes back.

CandyLeBonBon · 31/07/2021 16:53

@QueenAstrid trespass is not a police matter

It’s been a tough year for most people. Made tougher for people like OP by entitled, disrespectful CFers like this prick of a man who don’t care that their actions affect other people. He has no sympathy from me.
@QueenAstrid trespass is not a police matter
@QueenAstrid
is suggesting elevating it to a potential breach of the peace.

memberofthewedding · 31/07/2021 16:57

Op runs a working farm! This entitled CF has no idea what responsibilities she has in terms of vehicles, parking, gates or security.

Me Im a bitch. I would have told the CF bastard I was locking the gate NOW!

RickJames · 31/07/2021 16:57

Shameless placemark comment Smile

He's not inconveniencing the OPO at all. She warned him that the gates would be locked in 5 minutes, and he chose to ignore that.

People who live rurally have to take precautions and lock gateways and access roads. There are a lot of undesirable types out there who will drive into unattended farms and stable yards looking for horses, tack or farm machinery to steal. They do a daytime recce, and then sneak back in the dead of night to take what they want.

Tough luck that this bloke didn't do as he was asked.

MadeForThis · 31/07/2021 16:58

Bet he sends one of the kids to the door

dollyknocker · 31/07/2021 16:59

Also placemarking as my bookmark option isn't working 😬

All you had to door was knock on the OPs door and apologise. Grin

Sad to say it was the first thing I saw 🤣

Grin Far too invested in this.

Please. It's been a tough year for everyone, not just the CF. Who's probably one of many CFers who thinks it's okay to park all over someone else's land and block their roads/gates/drives because 'they've had a tough year' and walking/cycling is one of the few things people have been able to do. Still doesn't give them the right to behave in this manner. utter arseholes

Now go knock and apologise, ffs.

JacquelineCarlyle · 31/07/2021 17:01

Definitely don't unlock the gate until he knocks and asks politely. I agree with the PP who said that they don't believe he'd have done the same had you been a big burly bloke.

Enjoy your carvery Op.
