How long did it take for you to be on 'farting' terms with your DPs

This is not really an AIBU, but inspired by the hilarious 'he shat in the garden' thread.

My friend's daughter has been married for seven years...child-free..but her and her DH have never farted in each other's hearing. Nope. They discreetly remove themselves to the loo.

I cannot believe this.

It probably took around 5 years.
Now the floodgates have been opened, I can't imagine ever dating someone I couldn't fart Infront of! Someone who finds bodily functions so gross all the time would just annoy me.

Newmummy39 · 29/07/2021 20:37

I'm actually shocked by the responses here. As much as farting can be gross, it's a natural thing we do. My partner and I don't make a thing of it, but my gosh if you can't fart in front of each other after years then I think that's weird! It certainly doesn't and wouldn't ever put me off someone.

Lan2020 · 29/07/2021 20:39

Was with my ex husband 7 years and never once darted in front of him (not intentionally, can't say what I did in my sleep). Current partner I've been with 4 years and it's the same! He regularly farts though.

Beckhamsmetatarsal · 29/07/2021 20:39

Never. I was with my ex 9 years and I didn't fart in front of him. I didn't go to the toilet in front of him either. It's not something I'm comfortable with

Eeiliethya · 29/07/2021 20:43

I was about 8 months pregnant and after a nice sensual massage me and DP got down to a bit of the other.

Just at that grand moment of climax, I released THE longest and loudest fart in the Northern Hemisphere. Sat on top of him.

His little eyes were just looking up at me all agog, whilst I cried tears of laughter for 4 weeks.

I then shat all over the bed during childbirth so pretty much anything goes up in this house.

aliensprig · 29/07/2021 20:43

Tbh I don't think it has anything to do with diet - we're vegans and don't fart in front of each other, nor do I ever feel the need to. Not in the least bit prissy or prudish. If you're that flatulent then you must have medical issues!

AlwaysLatte · 29/07/2021 20:46

We've been married 16 years this year, I'd be mortified! So never in my case (my husband will let the occasional one out and say sorry but I've got more control to get to the bathroom or end of the garden!)

LST · 29/07/2021 20:49

I am honestly in disbelief at this thread! The end of the garden!? Do you up and leave the house?!

loosingmymarbles · 29/07/2021 20:53

Together 9 years. He happily does and doesn't bother me but I personally can't, I can't poo when he's in the house either !

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/07/2021 20:55

If you're that flatulent then you must have medical issues!

What, are you actually suggesting that needing to fart - like all humans do (even the Queen and Desmond Tutu) - is a 'medical issue'?!

I know not everybody on MN is a parent, but there must be a lot who are. I just have an image of loads of parents of babies sitting there stony-faced in deep offence, shaking their heads and wagging their fingers, berating their babies for being 'disgusting', every time they fart or poo - like it's somehow come as a big surprise to them (the parents).

WheyHey · 29/07/2021 20:55

30 + years
We know every family members bowel movements, wees & times of their periods because everyone shares that but we don't fart infront of each other
Go figure, we must look so weird to others

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 29/07/2021 20:56

I'm so relieved at the 'early on' comments. Not sure how it early it was but fairly early. We do apologise, pardon me etc but there's no way I'm going out the room just to fart. I have IBS anyway.

MonsterJammin · 29/07/2021 20:57

Can't believe the responses! DH farted mid-sex when we were first seeing each other and hasn't stopped (that one was accidental and he said "oops" 😂). I took a lot longer, at least a year I think but it's now a regular occurrence. He sometimes reminds me wistfully of the time when I didn't fart!

SilverOtter · 29/07/2021 20:57

Virtually from Day 1😂

floatingon · 29/07/2021 20:58

About an hour, I have Crohns so he had to get used to it pretty quickly 😂

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/07/2021 20:59

Desmond Tutu

Does a tootoo 😁

MotherOfBeardedDragons · 29/07/2021 21:01

Wow this thread is kinda nuts 😅

If I couldn’t behave around DP exactly as I would if I were on my own, I doubt it would last very long.

I didn’t fart for maybe the first few months then got tired of having a sore tummy 🤷🏻‍♀️

HasaDigaEebowai · 29/07/2021 21:01

22 years and never. Neither do we go to the loo in front of one another. Why would you?

Katypyee · 29/07/2021 21:02

I never realised so many people kept farts in! Don't you have awful stomach ache?

We all let rip in our household whenever. Everybody farts.

I do tell DH off if he farts in bed though. Got to draw the line somewhere. Also, we do not poo in front of each other.

We are vegetarians and eat lots of fibre and pulses; farting is part of who we are.

Been together over 16 years - that is a lot of farts to hold in!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/07/2021 21:02

Yes, there are a number of people on this thread who probably need to check their 'privilege' (if you can call it that) at being able to fart to order or, if you believe them, never actually farting at all.

I think not-farting has become the new competitive-how-many-hundreds-of-people-can-you-feed-with-one-chicken.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/07/2021 21:05

Desmond Tutu

Does a tootoo

Grin Grin Grin

Actually, he probably wasn't the best example to choose. I get the distinct impression that he's an easy-going, non-repressed 'lift cheek, waft and chuckle' kind of guy Grin

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/07/2021 21:05

Did you just create a Mumsnet fart?! A magical fart which disappears into nothingness simply by sheer will of the intestine owner? @WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/07/2021 21:07

We are vegetarians and eat lots of fibre and pulses; farting is part of who we are.

Is that a direct quote from the Vegetarian Society's homepage? Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/07/2021 21:12

Hahaha - 'I am the master of my own fart!' Grin

Only on MN is there a recognised method of actually Marie Kondo'ing your own flatulence Grin

kin432 · 29/07/2021 21:18

Less Marie Kondo, more loud and proud here. Also wander in and out of the bathroom if the other is on the loo. Funny as it wasn't the case in my family growing up, clearly my standards have dropped since I got married (to be honest, there's far worse than the odd botty burp in this category)
