To be embarrassed my deodorant didn't work today?

So I was trapped in the office exceeding 30 degrees. It was unbearable. I tried a new deodorant this morning and by this afternoon I could smell body odour on myself. I'm so embarrassed. It's a fairly new job too.

Wash pits with soap and water (shower, bath or just at basin)
use pitrok. Don't smell all day. Do sweat (a bit, which is normal)
Repeat every morning.

Bryna · 22/07/2021 06:22

@ChilliChoco yes you do as it's a deodorant rather that an anti- perspirant, however I can put it on in the morning and the next morning, I'm still not smelling!

OnTheBoardwalk · 22/07/2021 07:21

@StandsForComfort I used to use Dove which as you say is classed as a cream bar not soap. It felt like it was leaving a layer on my skin rather than cleaning it which made me sweat more

I read on here about using soap not a cream bar. I switched to Simple soap and could really tell the difference

TroysMammy · 22/07/2021 07:33

I use Mitcham but have found it makes the under arms of my polyester work top crispy. I've tried everything and no joy. My pits are sweat free though.

LubaLuca · 22/07/2021 08:10

Funny that a few people have mentioned the Sanex with a peachy coloured lid - it was worse than using no deodorant for me, it seemed to encourage me to sweat and get whiffy!

For those who like the Maximum Protection cream ones, they're usually a lot cheaper in Bodycare or Savers type shops than in Boots (£2.99 v £4.99). I'm certain the Dove and Sure ones are exactly the same product just with different fragrances, so I just get whichever one the cheap shop has Smile

saveyourbreath · 22/07/2021 08:19

The dove maximum protection cream the night before and in the morning and dove original spray on top of it.

Sorted.

Bryna I use Carr Greens natural deodorant, it comes in a little tin. It's all I use now and always small sweet. I do still sweat, but we are meant to in this heat! I found when the weather was normal temperature and during the winter I didn't sweat at all.

Some people are putting lots of chemicals on their armpits everyday, I am an old hippy but you really don't need to folks!

Qwerty789 · 22/07/2021 08:56

That's where social distancing really comes into it's own......

BillyShears · 22/07/2021 08:59

In these temperatures I need the Sure Max cream, sure men’s anti perspirant on top and a little can of Mitchem and some deo wipes in my bag too. It’s not you, it’s the 30 degree plus heat!

NewlyGranny · 22/07/2021 09:09

I grew up in a hot, dry climate and worked with teenagers in non-air-conditioned spaces! I learned not to wear silk after a disastrous, stressful lesson. There was a little gang of 14yo girls who sang a TV deodorant jingle at me whenever they spotted me around the building for the rest of the year.

A South Pacific island, minus electricity and piped water, taught me that the voluminous dresses the other women wore were actually really cool. Two friends made one for me and I got it out to wear yesterday.

They also taught me, by example, never to rush about but to proceed in a stately manner, and to carry an umbrella against the sun. Hats make you sweaty and their hair would have made keeping a hat on virtually impossible anyway. I also learned just to stop expecting to feel comfortable, and I did what they did and carried an old fashioned flannel draped on one shoulder to wipe sweat off my face and neck as required.

No perfume, no make-up. No deodorant could cope with it, but nobody smelt, except nicely of coconut oil (for the hair) and faintly of woodsmoke (from the cooking fires).

Ingvermama · 22/07/2021 10:21

Newlygranny this is it! Wearing cotton, loose materials, I also wear sleeveless loose dresses or dungarees and vest tops, natural deodorant. I think the chemicals in antiperspirants make the problem worse long term. And washing regularly with soap and hot water 🙂

Daisy829 · 23/07/2021 12:39

Thank you to this thread I’ve just purchased some sure maximum. I smell bloody great! Hope it lasts all day.

Whatup · 23/07/2021 13:28

Don't use female deodorant pink tax and it doesn't sure I use sure roll on for men and it always does the job

Whatup · 23/07/2021 13:28

I doesn't work even was what I meant to say

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 23/07/2021 13:34

Recent convert to Mitchum here too.

I did an circuits class last night and can confirm it works better than anything I've tried before.

ineedaholidayandwine · 23/07/2021 13:43

Hi, which Mitchum? Roll on/gel/cream stick/spray?

BashfulClam · 23/07/2021 13:56

Mitchum irritated me for a while but seems ok again. I was really itchy with it. I use the cream maximum one in this weather and then a skoosh of the spray obe the cream has dried. I shower in
The morning every day and use dettol soap which helps and apply some body powder (not talc) to pits, under boobs and top of thighs.

OP you most likely have some hand sanitiser, go to the toilet and wipe some under your arms to clean the smell away, it does work.

capercaillie · 23/07/2021 14:04

Earth conscious deodorant is brilliant. Works better than anti perspirant for me. For the first time ever, I can wear tops more than 1 day without washing

bananaboats · 23/07/2021 14:22

Even if anyone noticed I think people would be pretty understanding in this heat! Agree sanex is rubbish, mitchum is a game changer!

CSIblonde · 23/07/2021 16:15

I always carry a Nivea 48 hr mini size deodorant (Superdrug)just in case. It's really good, smells really nice too. In a pinch, go to ladies, wash your pits & then apply the liquid soap: will stop you sweating.

wordsareveryunnecessary · 23/07/2021 16:51

OP the Dove maximum protection stick is fantastic. I am perimenopausal and no odours with this

mbosnz · 23/07/2021 16:53

I use the Mitchum Clear, and oh my, it's life changing.

StrangeToSee · 23/07/2021 17:01

In summer I wash with Dettol soap every morning and use Mitchum on underarms and feet. Sometimes reapply on underarms if I’m sweating in polyester scrubs and PPE!

Real soap is far better than shower gel.
