To be embarrassed my deodorant didn't work today?

So I was trapped in the office exceeding 30 degrees. It was unbearable. I tried a new deodorant this morning and by this afternoon I could smell body odour on myself. I'm so embarrassed. It's a fairly new job too.

Highly recommend Driclor - you put it on overnight, then wash off and use normal deodorant (well, I don’t use any deodorant). Keeps me completely dry and odour free for days. Please don’t feel bad though; this is something that most people realise is one of those things, and you probably felt far more self conscious about it than anyone else.

Boopeedoop · 21/07/2021 21:57

Mitchum here too.

MegaCityOne · 21/07/2021 21:58

Mitchum is the one that works for me. I need something though to stop my forehead sweating.

Catlover77 · 21/07/2021 21:58

Driclor is a game changer. Takes a few days to get used to it but then you don’t need any day time deodorant. I now use it only a couple of times per week

msby · 21/07/2021 21:58

Mitchem here too. I pop it on immediately after a shower.
If I don’t shower again in the morning or am going out for an evening, I’ll use the Sure 48hr antibacterial spray before dressing. No issues at all either way, I just like that extra layer of protection!

enjoyingscience · 21/07/2021 21:59

Totally Mitchum. And I speak as someone who had Botox on their armpits.

I bet your colleagues didn’t really notice though.

Antiquestuff · 21/07/2021 22:00

I also like the Dove and Sure Max cream ones, apply at night so you’re less active and it can really ‘bond’ as it dries.
It’s a no to reapplying from me though, seems to upset that ‘bond’ and it becomes much less effective, wetness wise (still smells good though)
If I feel any topping up is needed I apply baby powder over the top with a dry flannel and it seems to help stop the wetness.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/07/2021 22:01

People love Mitchum on here, it's useless on me and I'm not a huge sweater. I use Sure Maximum Protection ,it's like a cream in a twist up tube. 31 degrees here and dry and not a whiff of anything but fresh deodorant.

user1471530109 · 21/07/2021 22:02

I've been using mitchum for a couple of years and it is AMAZING. But, I tried their new fragrance a month or so ago, 'bamboo' , and it is crap! Avoid that one! I was horrified to smell myself halfway through the day at work.

WaltzForDebbie · 21/07/2021 22:02

Mitcham unscented is great!

Jumpingintosummer · 21/07/2021 22:05

Perspirex is a game changer.

TokenGinger · 21/07/2021 22:06

Was it the peach lidded Sanex? I always stink of BO with that.

I learnt very quickly to always carry a pack of baby wipes and a roll on deodorant in my work bag for any sweaty instances!

Don't be embarrassed, OP. It happens to us all in this heat x

BewareOfTheAgapanthus · 21/07/2021 22:06

I like PitRok. I don’t get BO and I don’t get the yellow stains from breaking through an anti-perspirant. Of course, I am wet under the arms though so maybe it’s not for everyone.

BewareOfTheAgapanthus · 21/07/2021 22:06

PS I’m sure nobody noticed, OP

Sunshinealligator · 21/07/2021 22:08

Sure maximum protection its like a cream stick, absolutely brilliant stuff.

It's the only thing that works against my smelly teen DDs pits, she struggles to find anything that works
It works so well, DH and I also use it. Our own ones, but its brilliant. DH doesn't even mind its a womens one. He's just happy to smell good during the day. He's quite active at work

WimpoleHat · 21/07/2021 22:12

I think you can smell yourself long, long before anyone else can smell you, if that makes sense? I doubt it was as bad as you think it was. Plus - it was over 30 degrees today - everyone is in much the same boat, so I don’t think anyone would judge you harshly in any case. Please don’t worry.

justasking111 · 21/07/2021 22:13

DS working in a bar in this heat he's using a stick of Old Spice which tickled us, his late grandpa would be amused to. But it works if he uses anything else he's whiffy when I pick him up

CharlotteRose90 · 21/07/2021 22:15

Oh bless you don’t worry I think we all smelled this last couple days. I know I did. I use the pink sanex and never had an issue, try something slightly stronger .

bonfireheart · 21/07/2021 22:17

As I commute to work via two trains and the stinky tube I always have a bag of toiletries with such stuff and go to toilets as soon as I get to office, at lunchtime and before every meeting.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/07/2021 22:17

@Sunshinealligator amazing, isn't it? I discovered it recently.

tintodeverano2 · 21/07/2021 22:17

@RainbowBriteUk

Sanex too so I thought it would be decent
I've used sanex for years, but brought one of their new style bottles a few weeks ago. It's shit! Doesn't work at all!
DoItAfraid · 21/07/2021 22:18

@Ingvermama

I only use deodorant, it's a natural one a cream with essential oils. It doesn't stop swearing at all, but I always smell fabulous, even after a 12 hour shift in this heat at the hospital.
Could you share the details?
Yesitsbess · 21/07/2021 22:20

Top tips from my mother who was head of wardrobe in the theatre (everyone sweaty):

  1. If sleeves allow, slap wafer thin sanitary liners in the armpits - not ideal but does prevent sweat stains and some egress of smells.
  1. Zap sweaty clothes with cheap vodka in the armpits before washing. Destroys the smelly bacteria.

I know neither of these solve your today problem though. Also a spare shirt and some wet wipes in the bag are handy.

I came home today smelling like a badgers handbag but I do outdoor labouring. Smile

Antiquestuff · 21/07/2021 22:21

@Sunshinealligator Sure do a Men’s version, I’ve used it when Tesco substituted it for my usual one Grin

standupsitdownturnaround · 21/07/2021 22:22

Don't worry I bet you didn't smell. I stank to myself today by 3pm but my very honest colleague with a sensitive nose said she couldn't smell anything.

You know the acid toners people use for their faces? They help make sweat less smelly.

If I feel my sweat is more smelly than usual, the next time I shower, I use an acid toner wipe under my armpits and then use the same pad to do the ingrown hairs on my shins.

Don't know why it works but even when I sweat it isn't smelly.
